But leaving people who are in obvious danger of drowning, when they could have been saved, is tantamount to murder.
It’s not murder!
I knew that title would draw you in!
Rory Stewart on why its not only Johnson we should be blaming. A leopard doesn't change its spots.
Boris Johnson is a terrible prime minister and a worse human being. But he is not a monster newly sprung from a rent between this world and the next. Twenty years have passed since the Conservative party first selected him as a candidate. Michael Howard and David Cameron made him a shadow minister, and Theresa May gave him the Foreign Office. Thirty years of celebrity made him famous for his mendacity, indifference to detail, poor administration, and inveterate betrayal of every personal commitment. Yet, knowing this, the majority of Conservative MPs, and party members, still voted for him to be prime minister. He is not, therefore, an aberration, but a product of a system that will continue to produce terrible politicians long after he is gone.

MaizieD - Martin Renolds, Jack Doyle, Carrie Symmonds, Lulu Lyttle and Rishi Sunak according to the Mail and BBC this morning. They also reported that it wasn't an impromptu get together but that an email had been sent out inviting people to attend.
Eeeeeeee, well, Rishi Sunak, eh? Who'd 've thunk it....?
I think tbh that is the chink in Patels armament - 99% of either the border force, RNLI, private boat owners and RN will act like normal human beings and do everything that they can to save someone in peril.
One would like to think so, Wwmk2, but history tells us that there's always someone who is willing to obey orders... those poor Jews didn't walk into the gas chambers voluntarily, did they?

I would like to hear in Rory Stewart’s own words why he is a Conservative.
I wish people understood that there is no such thing as an illegal asylum seeker. Everybody has the right under international law to arrive in British waters or on British soil and to request asylum. Of course the request can be refused and if asylum seekers don't leave the country (after appeal) they are in the country illegally, but that is not the same thing as arriving by whatever means.
I absolutely hate the term "illegals" because it dehumanises people who are, in the case of people arriving in dinghies, not doing anything illegal.
Not bringing people who have every right to request asylum and turning them back in unseaworthy vessels is assisting murder, unless you can think of another word maddyone.

Her ridiculous and inhumane plan is scuppered before she starts.

You are still not understanding what the bill is allowing, are you Maddyone.?
If a person is killed through the action of a government agent who is indemnified by the state, that is state sanctioned murder.
Who else has been named, Coastpath?
Thank you for information growstuff. Despite asking for evidence twice before, the accusations were simply repeated. The point is that whilst it may become an offence to facilitate bringing asylum seekers ashore, something I disagree with incidentally, it has been alleged that the government and Patel are prepared to countenance murder. Murder! I cannot agree that not bringing asylum seekers ashore is murder. We are arguing over words. Words that have been used to say the government is happy to countenance murder. I do not believe this to be true. Therefore no apology until evidence is produced that clearly shows the government will countenance murder. I suggest having a think about what the charge of murder entails so that it can be called murder. Over emotive language has been used ie the word murder. Different language would have enabled us to agree.

It infuriates me that he's the one taking all the abuse when there were plenty of MPs joining in at the parties and probably more than one or two, yes he's the boss and responsible but name the others too
Well they've named the others at the birthday party Blossom5 so people obviously read your post.
Oh that will teach me to the end of the thread! Sorry to g and m
Sorry, p 33 on deals with indemnifying 'government agents who cause death or injury in the course of their duty.. I quoted the wrong post really. But I'm sure you'll get my drift.

^We have a government which intends to criminalise anyone saving the life of a person drowning, should they be assumed to be a ‘migrant.’^
Where on earth have you seen, heard, or read of this twaddle? It’s simply not true! Apart from anything else, it’s against maritime law!
Wrong information there it is true.
They also flirted with the idea of a type of concentration camp in Ghana.
growstuff
It's not twaddle, despite being against maritime law.
New laws in the Nationality and Borders Bill, currently at the committee stage, would make it a criminal offence to “facilitate the entry of asylum seekers” by taking them ashore, even if not done for payment or any sort of criminal gain.

I suggest that you read from p33 of the publication growstuff linked to, maddyone, and everyone else who thought I didn't know what I was talking about.
And perhaps apologise?

To
Poshpaws - you think Johnson and the Conservative party are evil. That's absolutely ridiculous.
Look around the world you can see evil everywhere. We don't know we're born here.
Taliban, murderers, child murderers, hate speech purveyors, greedy landlords etc. etc.
LuckyFour
No, sweetie, it's absolutely NOT ridiculous.
In England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland we have - to quote you - "murderers, child murderers, hate speech purveyors, greedy landlords etc. etc.".
We may not have the Taliban, but we have a Government which sells arms to countries like Saudi Arabia, whose human rights and misogynistic policies are the stuff of nightmare.
We have a Government which intends to criminalise anyone saving the life of a person drowning, should they be assumed to be a "migrant".
We have a Government whose Prime Minister said of his own countrymen/women "Let the bodies pile high" rather than take steps to safeguard them simply because doing so might have lessened his popularity.
We have a Government where leading Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg
who is estimated to be worth about £150m described how children of working families are less likely to be in poverty, while his party has cut the Universal Credit uplift and replaced it with something that means many will be pushed further into poverty.
And you have the gall to tell me I'm ridiculous? Frankly, I think you need a mirror in your house before you go throwing insults like that around.
Fortunately there absolutely no evidence that Patel is prepared to countenance murder of foreign nationals. You can’t provide evidence Maizie because there is no evidence.

Johnson's got Narcissistic Personality Disorder (if you don't know the symptoms, Google it and you'll see he ticks every single box) but I believe he's also actually evil - like Rees-Mogg and Patel and it "boggles my mind" that apparently 34% of the electorate STILL think "he's doing his best" and "he got us through Covid". The Conservative Party in my opinion is itself an evil entity, so it doesn't surprise me that they made him PM. I saw the Rory Stewart video and was quite amazed and impressed.
Ridiculous comment. Honestly people are really getting outrageous in their anti Tory rants. Pol Pot, Hitler , Stalin, Mussolini were all murdering tyrants. When our Gov sends in the army to murder it’s own citizens, then you can call Johnson a tyrant.
Lincslass your response made me chuckle, as it was obvious you hadn't bothered to actually read what I wrote - you simply saw what you wanted to see in it. Nowhere did I suggest BJ is a tyrant - or perhaps you meant to reply to some other post?
In any case, it's very entitled of you to class another person's opinion as ridiculous, whoever you meant to reply to. We are each entitled to our own point of view.
I foresee mutiny.
Patel is willing to send ships into the channel to turn back refugees in their dinghies. There was a conversation last week about on LBC - former naval men and officers who all said that they would not do it. Totally against everything they'd learned whilst in the Navy.
maddyone
No Maizie I’m afraid you haven’t! Please give a concrete example of when the government are or have been prepared to countenance the murder of people from other nations.
Of course the reason that you haven’t given an example is that you can’t.
You are talking emotional rubbish!

Not emotional rubbish. What Patel (therefore the government) is prepared to do.
