Doesn't murder have to be premeditated, whereas manslaughter isn't?

I wish people understood that there is no such thing as an illegal asylum seeker. Everybody has the right under international law to arrive in British waters or on British soil and to request asylum. Of course the request can be refused and if asylum seekers don't leave the country (after appeal) they are in the country illegally, but that is not the same thing as arriving by whatever means.

I absolutely hate the term "illegals" because it dehumanises people who are, in the case of people arriving in dinghies, not doing anything illegal.

Not bringing people who have every right to request asylum and turning them back in unseaworthy vessels is assisting murder, unless you can think of another word maddyone.

The word 'migrant' seems to have acquired a derogatory meaning, and is used constantly to describe people seeking asylum (who, as Growstuff says, are not illegal) The channel crossings problem could be solved by providing people applying for asylum a safe way to get here (ferries?), and may cost less than the current policy of keeping barriers in place. They are caught in an impossible situation where they cannot apply for asylum unless they are actually in the UK; there is no safe route that they can use; they are SO desperate that they risk their lives in unsafe boats. And the ones getting to the UK in boats are the ones with money; imagine how many who escaped with nothing are doing? The UKs push-back policy keeps the people-smugglers' trade in business! If there was a fair, safe way for refugees to get here, the trade wouldn't be able to continue and asylum applications could be made safely and decisions made.

Luca the oparative word being “endure” There are more important matters in world affairs going on at present. The Ukraine, the laxity of some EU states towards NATO is worrying. The fact that the German govt. has forbidden UK forces planes flying over Germany. The attitude of President Macron towards UK is ridiculous and yet lots of people want to go back to the EU?

There are about 4 or 5 Gransnet members here who constantly post about the Conservative government but do not tell us which party would do better. I often think that many Gransnet members here were public servants of some kind or another. I met more Lefties in local government and in education than elsewhere and they suppress quite wealthy unions. I only visit here because so many leading pisters are so predictable. So you are forced to “endure” Conservatives like me.

The reason people post about the Conservative government is because the Conservatives are in government. I'm sure you are aware that we allegedly live in a democracy and people are allowed to voice their opinions about how their lives are being governed, unless you are one of the people who think that people don't deserve a voice and should just accept what they're told to do.

Incidentally, in what way do education and local government (staff?) suppress wealthy unions? What's wrong with public servants? Don't you think the country needs them?

Maybe - the rivers and seashore are getting cleaner.

According to a recent poll - my OH mentioned it and I'm not sure where he got it from - the vast majority of people want their neighbourhoods to be clean and safe - parks suitable for children to play etc etc.

Cheaper public transport

Re-nationalised electricity and gas suppliers

Children being lifted out of poverty.

A reduction in the need for food banks.

Councils reintroducing essential services as they receive adequate funding.

I expect lawyers would have a field day arguing about the definitions of manslaughter and murder. The reason the law is being changed is so people such as sailors or RNLI personnel can't be charged with murder or manslaughter for not carrying out their obligations under international maritime law. I don't think there are many decent people who could just stand back and watch people drown.

Not sure where this leaves the Queen in her platinum year.The arrogance of these people is dumbfounding.
