Can't stand Cummings but as said above, he has nothing to lose! Confirmed this morning that the MET will investigate the 'parties' now they have relevant information.

*Why* is the media hanging onto Cummings every word?
(138 Posts)Just that really. Scummings is not to be trusted. Broke rules himself.
Why is he now heading the mob rule out to get Boris? Don't get me wrong, I think BJ is a t**t. But Cummings is just as bad, if not worse.
How interesting that the news just breaking is that the Met are now investigating various parties etc at Downing Street and that the Sue Gray's official enquiry conclusions will now be delayed. No wonder we keep being told "wait until Sue Gray has finished". Perhaps the can will be kicked conveniently even further down the road and it might all be forgotten. He really might be Teflon.
Apologies if on the wrong thread.

Agree with Gwyneth. Wouldn’t believe a word Cummings says. He’s a very bitter man and doing his level best to get Boris out. At the moment there are so many worrying things going on in the world but all we hear is ‘parties’. Boris has made dreadful mistakes he’s apologised. If he goes then the media will target someone else it sells paper. I reckon we will find out things untoward about other parties. It’s all becoming exceedingly childish n quite frankly embarrassing. Yes I lost my father to Covid had to say goodby via my iPad in 2020. My elderly mothers special birthday that year during lockdown had to be abandoned. I’ve had many months not being allowed into her care home. All this when he allegedly had many parties We must move on we are in grave danger of becoming a laughing stock
The MSM and the left are giving him the space because they are trying to bring down the Government and reverse Brexit. A disgraceful state of affairs by all accounts. He was a liar 2 years ago and now everything he says is gospel? The MSM and the left are trying to usurp democracy and destroy the UK. Shame on them all.
I would guess that the media, behind the scenes, know a great deal about what's gone on in the government
Well, Jack Doyle, now deputy editor of The Sun, definitely knew what was going on. He worked at NO 10. One of the parties held on the eve of Prince Philip's funeral was his 'leaving do', and now we know he was present a the Boris Birthday Bash the preceding year, when we were all in lockdown...
It's ironic that the Leave voters kept on and on about out of touch elites and swamp draining when all the time it was their own 'side' who were the very worst offenders.... There's a whole quagmire to be drained right here and now as a result of their choices.
I loathe that self-serving weasel Cummings and cannot understand why anybody listens to him. Personally I think he is utterly untrustworthy and has shown that he feels that Covid rules do not apply to him. Everything he says is intended to damage other people and boost himself.
I'm certainly not Boris' greatest fan, but believe that Cummings has deliberately set out to damage him as revenge for forcing him to leave his job.
As to why do the media hang on to his every word, they can smell blood and they want blood.

^This is all apparent now, my difficulty is deciding which one I loathe the most. The unelected SPaD who manipulated the electorate, by his own admission, into voting to leave the EU, or the immoral liar that so many on this country thought a great candidate to be PM.^
I loathe Scummings more; I feel that he is an evil genius and has not a jot of empathy or feeling for anyone and cares not a jot what anyone thinks of him either. Rather like a deadly snake waiting to kill with his poisonous bite.
Johnson is more like a daft, exuberant dog, perhaps an Afghan Hound, wanting to be liked but causing chaos wherever he goes, smashing the crockery off the coffee table with his wagging tail, pre-owned a few times and now owned by a family who thought he might be lovely but realise now how totally unsuitable he is.
Sorry, you can tell I'm bored!
I’m bored to death with it all now as well, and just want it to end. I loathe Cummings with a passion. Callistemon you describe him so well.
I would trust what Cummings SAYS went on because, as others have said, he has nothing to lose at the moment (whereas Johnson and the gang of sycophants around him do). I would guess that the media, behind the scenes, know a great deal about what's gone on in the government that they cannot report (or risk losing their access to all those press conferences / tip offs that their jobs rely on) so they're thankful that, at last, someone-else is making it easy for them. And, apart from the ones whose jobs rely on him, I suspect that the Tory party would boot Johnson out if they had anyone to replace him. it's been said many times that Johnson was only supported by the Tories to "get Brexit done" after May failed, and the plan was to get him to step aside after that, but Covid intervened and no-one else wanted a job that was, in essence, a poisoned chalice.

I had a dream about Cummings last night.
He was trying to poison me with a sort of magic potion.
Sarah Vine was there too.
We were in my old school sports hall.
Someone had put a load of gravy and leftovers in my handbag, so I couldn’t find my phone to call 999?
Sarah Vine, Cummings and school gravy!!
Blimey, are you trying to spoil our day FannyCornforth

You sum up my feeling exactly Callistemon21 much better than I can.
It concerns me that maybe Cummings had a hand in the destruction of other PMs too, although maybe not as influential, and I wonder what he'll do to Boris' replacement. Who is there without a skeleton in their cupboard?
Why is the media hanging on....
cos they love the "dirt"
look at the so called "news" headlines.....
everyone doom and gloom,
covid went quiet (!)
well, asteroid going to hit the earth (yes, I saw that headline!)
then climate change aka global warming
now.?? well mixture.. all of them plus World War 3 or is that 4?
Russia invading! and on and on
where is the good news in the media!? or even moderate?
sleaze! and on and on.. (ranting here)
Whatever we think of Cummings, bear in mind that if there was nothing to leak, he wouldn’t be able to cause such havoc.

Damaged men. That's all. Johnsons 'damage' is obvious in every gesture and little boy being told off expression.
... I've noticed that! He's a cross between a scowling teenager and a toddler about to have a temper tantrum at PMQs sometimes. He does not like to be challenged, that's for sure.
TBH I think his personal ambition has blinded him to the reality of politics in this country. The electorate are often fickle and perhaps many of those who 'lent' him their vote to get Brexit "done" do not have a natural affinity with the Conservative party, so his mistakes will not automatically be tolerated. I think he's over-rated his popularity and is now in a very difficult position. And Cummings is out to get him, that's for sure. We can all see that he (Cummings) is drip-feeding his vengeance. Johnson was riding high and it's now unravelling - I doubt he will be leading the next GE.
while I'm at it, which brains thought up a knighthood for Gavin Williamson of all people?
Probably the same one that thought peerages for a brain dead cricketer, an IRA sympathiser and the son of a KGB member would be a good idea...
I dislike the way all the evidence has been drip fed in an incremental manner. Is the birthday party the icing on the cake or do we have a glorious finale to come.? My problem is that when Boris goes , as he surely must, who do we have left?

is that his problem? He looks thoroughly unpleasant, like a skinny pitbull whereas Johnson looks like an over-exuberant untrained fluffy retriever
A. Can people with skinny faces only be nasty?
B. Boris Johnson is nothing at all like a fluffy retriever,( the ultimate in cuddly and nice.)
If we are judging people on their looks then the best description of Johnson I saw on GN was that he looked like a burst sofa.

Perfect description!
Also today I was gazing at that revered newspaper known as the Daily Mail. The cutting edge journalism was there for all to see. Boris is childlike and Keir is boring. And it's all to do with the date they were born.
Incredible!
He can't help his looks, MissA
But yes.
