So I should think. I hope the rapists are dragged back for trial.

Cypriot supreme court throws out case, acknowledging 21-year-old was not given fair trial two years ago

A British woman found guilty of fabricating a claim that she was gang-raped in a holiday resort in Cyprus has been vindicated after the island’s supreme court overturned the conviction.

Two years after the then teenager received a suspended four-month sentence for fomenting public mischief, the court threw out the case, acknowledging she had not been given a fair trial.

Glad to hear it

It was and is utterly horrendous. I believe her.

I started a thread about this when it happened. I'm so glad that she has been found innocent, I believed her account absolutely. She was betrayed by the young man she was in a brief relationship with who allowed his mates to abuse her, then she was disbelieved and stuck in prison in the aftermath.

I do hope this vindication will go someway in helping her rebuild her life, although I imagine she will always carry the scars, it's not something you can really get over.

It was sickening to see her assailants get some sort of a hero's welcome whilst they were seen laughing and joking when they returned to Israel. Although public opinion there did turn on them and there were plenty of Israeli women who made it plain they were disgusted with their behaviour. Yes they should be dragged back to Cyprus, but I wouldn't hold my breath that will happen.

About time, poor girl.

I should think so too. That poor girl. I hope they find those men who raped her and lock them up.

Terrible treatment from the Cypriot judge at the trial. Just awful. Another story the other day of an Indian girl being covered in soot and paint and paraded through the streets after she’d been gang raped!! It beggars belief. Plus the video and audio recording of a Premiership footballer (allegedly) beating, abusing and basically raping his girlfriend. It’s frightening that these young men have these attitudes towards women.

Yes, at last.

She must have been to hell and back. Thank heavens for this outcome.

I remember your thread Terribull
At last she is vindicated - that has taken so long though.

I hope they will be brought back and tried and justice will be served. Those in the so-called justice system there should be charged too.

Excellent news, disgusting that it’s taken so long for her to be vindicated.

So pleased about this. Thanks for posting Gagajo. I hope she has been able to build a good life for herself in the meantime. It would be great if those young men were now brought to trial but I doubt if it will happen.

I was so pleased to hear this, and about time too! Poor girl, what a horrific time she has had. The trauma and downright anger against her treatment must have been awful. I hope she can recover.

This is a shocking case and when I first read about it I didn't think at first that anyone would bother or even take it seriously. Made worse by being in another country at the time and whether our country would step up and see it as it was.
It's bad enough here with cases of rape so I couldn't see anything different anywhere else.

However, as long as it's taken, I'm glad that the poor girl has been believed, she has to try and live with the horror of everything as well as a laxed justice system.

When I first heard about this case, I told my husband that the woman would be presumed guilty and made an example of. Cypriot men are misogynistic, Greeks as well as Turks. They think that women, especially tourists, are easy prey because they drink. I would be interested in how many women have been raped in Cyprus and either not reported it or withdrawn the allegation once they have spoken to the police.
