A generation of women are being put off joining the police!

The Met police seem to be always in the news for the wrong reasons. Cressida Dick needs to sort out the attitudes of her officers towards women as mysogeny is prevalent.

I have not heard of this being the case in other police forces.

Not the case in Scotland the number of women is quite high ,I'm fairly sure its nearer 50% on some intakes ,,though I haven't been at the College since the start of Covid .The number of ethnic minorities and gay recruits is also up.Only know this from working with the new intake for over 40 years .

i think that's wishful thinking unfortunately; domestic violence, coercive control, wrong attitudes, are rife among police all over.

I was asked to give a reference for a young lady who is joining the Police force late summer.
She is in and being fast tracked to become a Detective which surprised me, she is a Graduate entry.
Also an friends daughter joined last year she's a PC..she didn't wait long. So I think young women in my part of the world have the door wide open.

My niece just joined the police and has started a University degree course with them. If she and her fellow cadets are anything to go by then the future of the police force is in good hands.

My eldest granddaughter is studying at university, her intention is to join the police after graduation

There are over 30,000 police officers in the met, and in a cross section of society there are bound to be some perverts , as in other jobs,so just as well 160 of them have been charged. I wonder which professions the rest of the mysoginists come from.

My 18 year old granddaughter has just joined the Ambulance Service on an apprentice scheme , yes I know it's not the Police, but it is a front line service and not without its dangers. To say that we are proud of her is an understatement. Her boyfriend is a newly recruited Police Officer, so they make an excellent pair.

atqui I am bemused at your posting. If you are referring to other professions, which do you consider exist solely for the protection of the public, as the Police do? As stated least one (to our knowledge) kidnapped and killed a woman. I didn't go into the woman who, without committing a crime, was strip search and humiliated by a crowd of officers in a police station. Other examples exist! The IOPC report highlights the intensity of this problem! However I am pleased other posters do know of women going into the force - diversity is essential!

I agree with Atqui. There are many thousands of people in the Met and this sort of behaviour will be found throughout society. Girls seeking to join the police won’t be naive and they will be much better equipped to deal with misogyny than earlier generations of women. Any girl put off by what she reads in the papers about this sort of behaviour probably isn’t cut out for what can be a very unpleasant job.

The daughter of a friend of mine joined the Met and hated it. The amount of bullying was unrelenting. She left.

My niece starts her training for the police in July. Her parents were both serving police officers and her mother is a very tough lady who would have to.d her daughter how it is in the force.
