Surely you know that decisions to prosecute are dependent on evidence? Crimes like Saville’s depend on vulnerable people speaking out and for many reasons some just won’t do it. Margaret Thatcher lobbied strongly for his Knighthood despite warnings about him but Keir Starmer isn’t bringing her into the argument. Johnson is a desperate man who will stop at nothing to hold on to his job.

Just to remind people of what Johnson said in 2019 in relation to police investigations into past cases of child abuse.

Do people really believe that Johnson cares one iota about this issue? He simply used his parliamentary privilege to cast a slur on Johnson - one he would not have dared to make as a private citizen. He was retaliating in the most offensive way he could think of to deflect from his own shortcomings. He is both despicable and dangerous.

Mud sticks and seems it's stuck on Starmer he will forever be tarnished right or not of being in charge of the CPS and letting Jimmy Saville off the hook to commit more obscene acts. Also the photo of Starmer and Rayner kneeling in their office to BLM didn't go down to well did it, well perhaps some of his supporters on here liked it, but I don't think the silent majority of Labour voters in the real did.

Doodledog, you are right. British law says that everyone charged of a crime is entitled to defend him/herself, so we do not prosecute dead people, however much we know/ believe about their offences.

Well the buck stops with Boris it's been said on these threads in the past because he's the PM, all the deaths from Covid etc are all his fault. Well perhaps the buck stops with Starmer because like it or not he was in charge of the CPS at the time.

I was just thinking the same Maudi. KS has spent the past few weeks saying Boris should be responsible for every little thing going on in No.10, so why shouldn't it be the same the other way round?

These are my feelings on this debacle too. Covid & decisions made were on Boris’ watch. He was (is) the captain of the ship. So many GN posters have told us so. I’m sure he doesn’t make every single decision, that would be impossible, but he puts Ministers in place who do the day-to-day stuff.

Surely the same with Keir Starmer? He was the captain of the CPS ship. Again, I’m sure every single decision didn’t come to his desk. I don’t see the difference which is what Boris was pointing out.

Also, as an aside - I can’t have been the only one watching it live on tv and noticed how Starmer ‘went pink’ when the camera panned to him. I think he was technically embarrassed because the jibe hit home. KS has a legal (some like the word forensic) mind. If Boris was wrong, why did KS not stand up and shout ‘SLANDER!’ at him? That’s the bit I don’t understand in all this.

I was also thinking that Johnson's stance is very much like Trump. Ditto the attitude that you'll need a tank to get me out. What an utter shambles.

Why aren't people up in arms about the protestors who were acting so thuggishly? They were the ones at fault here.

I don't think BJ 'incited' them as they were shouting about all sorts of things other than Jimmy Saville - e.g. Julian Assange.

I'm not sticking up for BJ, and agree he shouldn't have made the comments he did, but to call his actions Trumpian is going too far.

If Piers Corbyn was involved, the demonstration was obviously centred around the anti vaccination idiots, but of course the media will pounce on the odd ‘Jimmy Savile’ reference and blow it up out of all proportion.

I often think that his family must be frightened for him going out of the house everyday, as with any high profile politician.

If could think of one way to improve the quality of the debate on Gransnet it would be for posters to make the effort to find out the facts.
Possibly true Casdon, but we have to acknowledge that at least half the population don't make an effort to find out any real facts, so in that respect you are getting a true view of opinion on GN.

I'm not supporting anyone, and am pretty apolitical. I always like to consider the human aspect and how what is fair criticism of one can't be for another. If posters point something out that puzzles me, then I will chip in.
