The PM has just announced (in a pre PMQ statement) that he intends to lift all Covid rules by the end of this month. Yet deaths due to Covid in the last 7 days sadly totalled 1802 people. Could this be the PM trying to get us all to focus on his willingness to sacrifice more people, and to look away from the new picture just released of him with two others and an open bottle of champagne (15th Dec 2020) during the height of lockdown (currently not included in the 10 parties under Met investigation!)

Why wait that long? Denmark, Norway and from yesterday Sweden all free from restrictions. Just get on with it.

If you read a reply to my earlier post it’s been pointed out that not all restrictions have been lifted by Denmark. It’s the part about not having to stay at home if you know you have covid that’s of concern and that hasn’t been lifted in Denmark.

Of course it's a distraction. Johnson is using his usual "dead cat" technique. If this doesn't work, what will be next? War against Russia?

How dare you quibble over little things, like me and my staff breaking the lock down laws, when I'm leading the Free World into battle?

LovelyLady Thu 10-Feb-22 13:35:02

Don’t think the PM has empathy.
The first year when COVID was in our midst I didn’t know any one with Covid or anyone who had died. Now I know of many deaths and lots who have Covid.
It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
I feel this is a distraction from the PM’s inefficiency and free living lifestyle.

It seems to be a long time since we last heard from the scientific advisors. Have they been made redundant?

Grantanow Thu 10-Feb-22 13:38:37

The general problem about a PM who ignores the conventions of democratic government in the UK is there is no real constraint: MPs can be booted out of the Commons for telling the truth about him but he can't be readily kicked out especially if he is supported by a tainted Party keen to stay in power. We need a law that enables a judge to depose him for lying or breaking the law. BJ: never again. Boris's law?

Coco51 Thu 10-Feb-22 14:17:56

The problem with our own risk assessment is that the Government have just upped the risks for CEVs, and will be left to sort themselves out - it is effectively take an unknown risk or be imprisoned in our own homes.
BTW Prince Charles has tested positive again so the virus is still out there and infecting widely, and who knows if more serious mutations will come along?

GraceQuirrel Thu 10-Feb-22 14:24:40

These are NOT deaths from Covid. They are deaths from ANYTHING after you had Covid. The true number of deaths ENTIRELY from Covid since it began is ONLY 17,000. Stop panicking and get living your life again.

MaggieMay69 Thu 10-Feb-22 14:33:08

Sorry, but omicron might be a little milder but it can still cause serious complications, and the majority of them aren't known yet. Its utterly ridiculous to end all the restrictions so fast...I was at Stoke Mandeville hospital earlier today talking to some of the Nurses I used to work with and they are still snowed under, still seeing children, still watching people die needlessly...this is thanks to the worst PM in the history of time, Johnson-Kemal.

Sorry, rant over, just riles me when so many are still dying...whether they have underlying illnesses or not, with these illnesses they might live for another ten/twenty years without this Pandemic... I lost three people I loved dearly to Covid, and I shall continue wearing my mask along with the rest of my family. x

17,000 deaths from Covid has been disproved and this untruth has been circulating on social media for some time.
I have previously posted that a comprehensive explanation of the figures has been given on the BBC 4 programme More or Less for those who are interested in the actual facts.

Farzanah Thu 10-Feb-22 14:44:31

No panicking GraceQuirrel, just prefer the full facts.

Farzanah Thu 10-Feb-22 14:51:36

It is obvious that restrictions can’t continue for ever but I would like Government decisions to be evidence based and for clear guidance for the clinically vulnerable.
Not much to ask of any responsible government. Pity we don’t have one.

But the fact is that the majority of people that died with covid would still be alive now if they hadn’t caught it. If people die in eg an earthquake you don’t point out that some of them had health issues so the earthquake didn’t necessarily kill them.

Sawsage2 Thu 10-Feb-22 15:51:20

Jennifer Eccles. I totally agree with you.

You really ought to look at World Health Organisation statistics - please will you identify the source of the misleading statistics you’ve posted.
This is a cruel and spiteful denial of the suffering of thousands of people who have lost loved ones.

Farzanah Thu 10-Feb-22 18:10:37

You are right Coco51 but unfortunately I’ve come to the conclusion that people search out “truths” that fit their own agenda, so it’s a waste of time trying to point the way to genuine stats.

Of course Maybee70 - many people died in the war - my father, uncles and grandfathers were lucky to survive - they fought for their country, were wounded, patched up and returned to the western front-I am proud of them- they never talked about the horrors or moaned about it- they just got on with life- many people have long Covid - I had it myself from 2020 - 2021- I have also lost friends for a number of reasons - not because they had Covid but because they could not access treatment or cancer operations as all wards were full. This was before the vaccinations. However, I feel we really do need to move on. I do not want to be treated as a pathetic CEV - yes I qualify for a 4th jab and some anti viral stuff and yes, I am very grateful for that. What I really hate is listening to moaners interviewed on television whilst living in good accommodation with plenty to eat, gadgets, phones, jobs, good clothes, flat screens, etc etc - so therefore, yes I am insensitive to them - and to the manipulative presenters.

‘Pathetic CEV’ !! That’s really offensive. What’s pathetic about living in fear for two years while constantly being reminded by email to shield because Covid could cost you your life? That’s the reality. And there are different levels of CEV - someone undergoing cancer treatment for example, will have no functioning immune system meaning that contact with Covid could very well kill them. Not advocating staying in lockdown and testing and isolating are a non starter once they become voluntary, but a bit of understanding wouldn’t go amiss.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 10-Feb-22 18:39:54

So you are insensitive to people ‘moaning’, I assume about the lifting of restrictions, if they live in good accommodation, have plenty to eat, have phones and other gadgets, flatscreen TVs and good clothes etc? Since when did the possession of any of those things make anyone immune from catching covid, having it develop into long covid, dying?

happycatholicwife1 Thu 10-Feb-22 21:25:55

Gee, Varian. As far as devious politicians go, Joe Biden trumps Trump in every possible way. I have followed by Biden for a very long time. He is not a good person to be in charge of anything. Of course, he's not really in charge now. Trump has nothing to recommend him to me as a personal friend. However, strictly in terms of doing things that are good for the country, we haven't had a person who could accomplish as much good for Americans as Trump did in a very long time.

You have it on great authority then, that Ed Daley and Keir Starmer DON’T lie then???? Who told you they don’t?? A little dicky bird?? Or a labour voter?

MayBee70 Fri 11-Feb-22 00:30:03

It’s Ed Davey by the way. ( there are some strange people popping up on here tonight….)

Or as I like to do , flip it,-,where's your hard evidence that they DO lie to the country on life and death matters? Were you never taught that 2 wrongs DON'T make a right?? Don't look like you were. Weak ineffectual argument.
