That is interesting and bears out the reaction of my Italian friends at Xmas ( and yes they are aware of the irony !)

We are in France at the moment. A short discussion about all our plans as to when our next visit will be, we have a date in mind, but it depends on Covid regulations drifted to derisory remarks about Macron, but nothing to the sniggers and curled lip when Johnson was mentioned - and the assumption, thank goodness, that we found him as contemptible as anyone else.

In thirty years of having a home in France we have had a number of these brief poitical comments with neighbours at times of high political tension, but never before the derision or contempt you now see over here for Johnson.

Unfortunately, our PM is not alone in making us this current national failure and international embarrassment. Can't think where it will all end. I don't even think a general election would help us at the moment. Totally cringeworthy and very worrying.

... and Liz Truss is making things worse.
.... and we are paying for her vanity project photographer too!

The current Prime Minister has made Britain a laughing stock in every organisation and coutry that used to value our knowledge and advice.

John Major gave a damning speech yesterday stating that the PM and his officials broke lockdown laws, then asked the public to ‘believe the unbelievable’ . Among other significant criticisms including the PM’s contempt for ministerial standards and attempted assaults on civil rights, Mr Major went on to say this ‘shifty’ government has shredded the UK reputation abroad, where ’trust is being lost, and (our) reputation overseas has fallen because of our conduct’. At the same time, Liz Truss’ unprepared and ill-informed performance led to her being humiliated for offering ‘no trust, only slogans’ by her Russian counterpart. Not the strongest day for the UK’s standing on the world stage!
