They say he poses a great danger to women and children. Why on earth was he is an OPEN prison?

My husband has just announced that he got into someone’s house through the cat flap shock

Jokes aside, but Boston not that far away.

Jaberwok Mon 14-Feb-22 13:48:35

I'm astonished that this person was in an open prison, talk about asking for trouble!!

JillyJosie2 Mon 14-Feb-22 13:50:37

MayBee is this the UK or the US? DH was part of an open prison visiting programme. If they're in an open prison it is thought that they are possibles for rehabilitation and release under licence.
Someone DH was visiting had already raped again after a first release but they released him for a second time and I have since heard that he has been arrested for breaking parol conditions. I'm sure the intent to accept that people can change is sincere but some prisoners are very clever and obviously conceal their intentions. Not to make prior judgments about anyone but that's what I thought when I saw your post.

Just seen this on our local news. It’s across the Bridge from us but still worrying.
Yes how on earth had he got through a cat flap? Must have been a big cat.
* Jaberwok* the common sense of ones making these decisions amazes me.

Apparently the parole board suggested he be moved to an open prison in advance of being released but didn’t consider him suitable for release at that point - 2 or 3 years ago. Beggars belief.

JJ2 It’s the UK. Boston in Lincolnshire.

I’m only going by what it said on the news and it said he was a danger to women and children.

His photo has been on the news so he may try to lie low but if he has any money on him he could get on a train and go anywhere.

Urmstongran Mon 14-Feb-22 15:19:40

Police are warning he could be ‘anywhere in the country’ as 8 hours elapsed before his absence was noted.

tickingbird Mon 14-Feb-22 15:23:11

From what I read yesterday he has raped children, been released and kidnapped a nine year old and various other crimes as well as the breaking in the house via a cat flap and raping a young woman! He’s dangerous and, if what I read is correct, he should either be locked up indefinitely or castrated.

MayBee70 Mon 14-Feb-22 15:34:04

Hasn’t it been proved that people that commit offences like that are never safe to be given the opportunity to do it again, even in old age. He’s not going to use the spare time he has gazing at the view and having cups of tea is he?

Chestnut Mon 14-Feb-22 15:34:17

It's absolutely unbelievable that someone so dangerous would not be under lock and key. They don't seem to care about our safety, more interested in making some space in the prisons it seems. It is quite chilling to think that such vile evil people are allowed any kind of freedom because this leaves us all at risk.

AGAA4 Mon 14-Feb-22 15:34:36

It seems wrong to me that someone who has raped women and children can appear to be safer when they have been in prison with men. They haven't had a chance to commit rape while inside but the minute they get out they go looking for prey.

JillyJosie2 Mon 14-Feb-22 15:51:21

The chap I mentioned was a murderer as well as a rapist and he raped and murdered within 24 hours of being released. It does make you wonder about how decisions to release these people are taken.

Callistemon21 Mon 14-Feb-22 15:57:16

Child murderers, rapists and other men convicted of dangerous crimes often wander around Bristol, having escaped from or been let out from Leyhill Open Prison.

The whole system needs revisiting.

Iam64 Mon 14-Feb-22 15:57:31

Our prison population is too high. I wish alternatives to custody were given the priority they are in many other Northern European countries. Violent and sex offenders should be incarcerated for our safety. I don’t know the details of his offences but, if tickingbird is right (and I’m sure she is) this man shouldn’t have been in an open prison.

The indeterminate sentences which the government abolished were meant for men like this.

BlueBelle Mon 14-Feb-22 16:23:41

Sexual predators of children should be put on an island out in the cold North Sea A helicopter can drop food medicines letters etc to them once a week they don’t need wardens let them fight amongst themselves if they want to they don’t need supervision

JenniferEccles Mon 14-Feb-22 16:39:37

It’s madness isn’t it?
No doubt some gullible prison psychiatrist had declared him a reformed character when he was transferred to an open prison, as presumably he was initially held in a secure one.

Why are we so soft on criminals especially obviously dangerous ones like this individual?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 14-Feb-22 16:47:04

I cannot understand why this animal was in an open prison.

The crimes he committed warrant a full life sentence no remission or parole, under ANY circumstances.

LauraNorderr Mon 14-Feb-22 16:51:22

Maybe it’s time that those who recommend the release of such a prisoner were held accountable when they go on to reoffend.
They may be a little more risk averse if their career was threatened.

Yes I heard that on the local news also.

JenniferEccles Mon 14-Feb-22 17:01:50

I wonder how they treat sex offenders in a country like Singapore which is renowned for being tough on any crime?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Feb-22 17:02:10

Perhaps he used the old trick of putting a pillow under his blanket. ? I hope the relevant heads will roll. And that he’s caught before committing another crime and returned to a secure prison to serve his sentence in full.
