I am fed up with the 2 of them, the upsets they cause and their constant law suits. However much is this latest one going to cost?
I’m assuming it’s judicial review, in which case wouldn’t he have to pay himself ?

Chardy
I don't understand this.
He wants to pay for something he used to get by right - a level of security he can't get from any other source.
How is this setting a precedent? Who else is in a situation like this?

He didn’t get it by ‘right’ and even if he did, he gave up that right when he walked away from the royal family. He wouldn’t have been entitled to police protection other than when carrying out royal duties and since he doesn’t do this any more why would they provide protection now. It’s setting a precedent whether he pays or not because if he doesn’t pay, the met would be providing a service not given to any of the other royals outside the line of succession. If he were allowed to pay, then he’s effectively hiring the met police for his personal security. The met are not ‘for hire’, so setting a precedent for every other oligarch and celebrity to follow. And I agree with you, no one else is in this situation. That’s because the situation is of his own making. You make your bed, you lie on it.
‘A tiresome twerp’ I like it BlueBalou.
It just about sums him up doesn’t it?
Glad we have the red tape, how can anyone support the wealthy buying police protection
trisher
Harry has offered to pay-they won't let him. He isn't allowed to bring his US security here because apparently 'we don't allow people to wander the street with guns here',
What is he supposed to do? Put himself, his wife and children at risk because this country just likes to wrap things in red tape?
I don’t think he’s been banned from bringing his own security - just not ‘armed’ security. And it’s not that they won’t let him pay, it’s that the police can not be hired as security. By anyone. It’s setting a precedent. That’s not wrapping things in red tape, that’s keeping it real.

According to the Telegraph he’s renewing his lease of Frogmore cottage so he’s still domiciled in the UK.
I think he’s become a very tiresome twerp, and maybe he’s regretting the move to the USA. At least Meghan has previously made it clear that she’s not keen on living here so hopefully she’ll stay put?
GSM, your post at 18:14 is what puzzles me too. I can’t link the shunning of publicity he wanted with the courting of publicity he seems to go for.
I didn't mention "careers advice" at all trisher, but how these life skills could be useful in carving himself a niche as a member of the royal family. Invictus Games for example. Also his work to protect and conserve natural resources and wildlife in Africa.
Harry himself on leaving the army was full of hope and enthusiasm, saying he was entering a new chapter in his life. He could have been a force for a lot of good.
On the other hand, he could have become a dog walker!
Oh come on surely no one believes the army would have given Harry careers advice. His future was predicted- shaking hands and giving speeches.
As for not experiencing family breakdown. His parents divorced, an acrimonious and difficult divorce, then his mother was killed. His father was brought up by cold undemonstrative parents. He was taken to a clinic to see the consequences of drug use because he was experimenting at 16 Then he went into the army. It's a recipe for disaster. You would imagine someone in that rich, well connected family would have realised he needed help but they didn't so he found someone who did and left them.
Surely the Army engenders leadership, analytical skills, initiative, decision making, teamwork, practical skills .... the list goes on. Most veterans will apply these skills to their new careers which could be very diverse. My SiL was in the army in Iraq and is now successful with his own business because he learned organisational skills. Harry would have received the best possible advice on what to do afterwards, so how come he failed to find a niche for himself? I think the answer unfortunately lies in his very makeup.
Often those veterans who experience family breakdown have problems but that doesn't apply to Harry.
But basically what else is he trained for?
He was in the Army!! An officer!
How many service personnel go on to other careers because of the training they received in the services?
Thousands.
But perhaps they don't always earn the millions he expects.
But basically what else is he trained for? His whole life has been lived on the premise that he is royal and therefore must behave in a certain way. Most of the RF are like this. He spent sometime in the army and managed that but it wasn't the ideal career for someone who has sometimes sought release in drink and drugs (which is something he shares with many veterans). But apart from that he has never been trained to do anything apart from make speeches and shake hands. I don't see much difference between him doing it at the tax payers expense in the UK and him doing it for Netflix in the US. Although I prefer the US option because the money isn't coming out of my pocket.
Are you not outraged by the hypocrisy of wanting a private life but courting publicity at every (preferably well paid) opportunity, or by his public trashing of his family for money Namsnanny?
No one could blame him for wanting to withdraw from royal life
exactly Callistemon. I dont understand why others dont see that most are only outraged by the hypocrisy of his actions.
He just blunders on and on.
It really is sad to watch; no-one could blame him for wanting to withdraw from royal life, it's not as if he was 2nd in line to the throne. He could have kept a much lower profile and lived happily overseas with his wife and family.
He's like a moth drawn to the flame of publicity
Just hate him for what he has become.
Oh no, he wants to come and be seen on the balcony (Netflix would lap it up). He just doesn’t want a nice private family visit that has no financial value.
He seems to be acting like a toddler pushing boundaries. As soon as one problem is over he looks around for another.
Could he be looking for an excuse not to come?
No sympathy from me either I'm afraid. When you've put yourself into a hole of your own making, you really should top digging.
I really couldn’t care less if it ends badly for him. He’s brought it on himself.
Snowberryz. That’s exactly it. If he had just said I’m very unhappy with royal life, I’m going to the US with my family to get away from it all and done just that, I’m sure the majority would have wished him well. After all he was extremely popular. He didn’t do that though; he went on a talk show and spent two hours trashing his family. We found out they’d set up a website ‘Sussex Royal’ and wanted to trade on his royal connections but the Queen ruled otherwise. Since then, it’s been one spiteful act after another.
I do wonder if his family know he’s vulnerable and open to suggestion and hope this doesn’t end badly for him.
