The following is a quote from Michael Rosen (the author) on his facebook page today
I'm sincerely glad that the media have taken a very sympathetic view of the horrors faced by Ukrainians. In fact, they've dispensed with 'impartiality' and 'balance'. I wonder what that would have looked like if they had done this with the civilian population of Iraq 2003-2011.^
It is wonderful to see the great response by the British people to this tragedy and the many millions of pounds donated to the main charity helping refuges. BUT......seems at odds with the way the same public have responded in the past to other refugees from war-torn countries. AND....even these at present. Air strikes in civilian targets are not just happening at present in Ukraine.
It is at odds. That doesn't make me any less grateful for the response we have seen, only sad that we find it difficult, as countries, to see further than we do.
Sadly, it appears that although countries from the European continent to much further away are willing to help, we on our little island do not have such open arms. We will do what we can, apparently, but woe betide these poor people if they see us as a sanctuary.
