Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

Now the rouble has dropped in value Russians are queuing up at the banks to take out their money in dollars. The more sanctions bite and the more Ukraine holds him up the more enraged Putin is and the more dire his threats. The man is completely and utterly insane. He will never subdue the Ukrainians but he won’t accept that. Somebody needs to put a bullet in his head.

Putin has done things that we believed he wouldn't. He says What is the world without Russia? I believe him capable of anything if he fails to get what he wants.

The Ukrainian PM is, I believe, the voice of Paddington Bear in the dubbed Paddington films. As if I couldn’t worship that man any more. If Putin harms that man he will go down as one of the most reviled men in history. I dread waking up and putting on the news each morning. Is it two faced of me, not being a religious person, to say the occasional prayer?

He certainly needs to be held to account. However, it is too easy to say 'he is insane, shoot him'. If he is insane - who knows in what way - it is organised insanity and he can do a great deal of damage; stopping that will but the first job.

It has been said that part of the reason for the invasion is to strengthen his position; he fears not leaving his term of office alive. If he does, I would rather see justice, in a war crimes tribunal, than murder. What the Russians decide will come first, whatever we want.

The talks have started.

Everybody hold their breath and pray.

National flower of Ukraine

"A woman is being hailed on social media after she confronted a heavily armed Russian soldier and offered him sunflower seeds – so that flowers would grow if he died there on Ukraine’s soil. "

National bird of Ukraine - seen as a symbol of peace

25Avalon Mon 28-Feb-22 12:01:30

The reason I would like to see Putin taken out is to stop further carnage and what will amount to genocide. No one seems particularly hopeful the peace talks will work but you never know. At least they are taking place. We can but hope.

Apparently the Russians want to sell their gold in Switzerland but they can’t get there to deliver it! So Russian banks aren’t happy. A lot of Russian soldiers have defected. There are protests everywhere including brave people in Russia. Perhaps this will all help the talks.

That’s the White Stork (Ukraine’s national bird, a symbol of peace).

Russia’s national bird is the Double Headed Eagle. Speaks volumes. And it only exists in fantasy land.

Apparently a brewery in Kyiv have switched from bottling beer to filling bottles with Molotov cocktails. Genius. Good luck Ukrainians - we are all behind you.

@IAPomomarenko a journalist on the Kyiv Independent is reporting that the 13 sailors who were on Snake Island are not dead but were taken as prisoners by the Russian Navy this has apparently been confirmed by the Ukrainian Navy.

I hope this is true…

I think it’s safe to say that absolutely nothing can be taken as certain regarding the Russian invasion.

I see that the EU is setting up a clearing house to supply Ukraine.

Funding so far to the tune of €450 million has been put aside and the Ukraine is invited to state what is needed. Member states are going to advise central clearing about what they can meet and this will be ensured by Brussels.

Good idea I thought.

I think Khrushchev was 'retired' into obscurity in 1964, but that was the Politburo days ... more of a group of equals.

We are told not to believe anything Putin says as he is a liar. Poor Russia having a leader with such a reputation!

I wonder what the safeguards are in a Dictatorship for access to the nuclear button, if it is only Putin he will have to be stopped from within and if you look at how any of the other ex dictators held on the power to the bitter end they were surrounded by people who had vested interests or would share the blame.

If Putin gets backed into a corner will he press the button and take us all with him. He reminds me of those fathers who loose their children in a divorce and end up killing them rather than let the mother have them. If it looks like he is loosing Russia (and loosing face) there is no knowing what he capable of.
