Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

Sad but true. Just done a bit of cross referencing.
Thanks Tamaraya

Ukraine is a seat of heavy corruption
Puts n is taking out Bioweapon bases there. Dig deeper my friends

So where did you hear that load of crap? If that is the case why didn't Russia bring it to the attention of the UN and the rest of the world instead of invading? Tell us the source of your "information"

BlueBalou Sat 26-Feb-22 06:26:05

Putin is now saying there will be military action if Finland and/or Sweden join NATO.
He’s a lunatic.

Momentum is growing to withdraw SWIFT. From the Russian banking system

Closing down any communication with Russian Central Bank would help as well I would have thought.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 26-Feb-22 04:38:27

Russians taken by surprise. What in gods name did they expect the Ukrainians to do?

Dr Mike Martin
it seems that the Russians are a bit surprised that the Ukrainians have fought back. And fought back well.
The Russians are taking casualties, which it seems they weren’t expecting.

The Russian ministry of health had just effectively mobilised civilian doctors in Russia. One assumes to deal with the level of casualties being sustained.

Quote from tv today.
"The only thing that we have learned from history, is that we have learned nothing from it"
If the rest of the world outside of Russia don't stop bickering, and unite, it will be game over.

I’ll try to find a hair shirt to wear.

Not good enough. ? nothing less than self flagellation with a few Hail Marys thrown in for good measure.
Only then will you come half way near to showing how sorry you are.
Your a naughty girl.

Or, people could stop bringing it up 12 hours after the event.

I want people to appreciate the impact of their actions and to understand that "sorry, I didn't know it would upset anyone" isn't an excuse. And that you don't post one line comments about the overthrow of governments and don't check if it's true.

Doesn't seem too much to ask.

Cross posts.

If you weren't point scoring, why were you so desperate to share unsubstantiated and distressing news? Lessons to be learnt, I think.

Not point scoring, not desperate to share unsubstantiated news. She got the info from her husband who was quoting from Sky News. They, or he, obviously got it wrong. A simple mistake for which she apologised, what more do you want ?

Also, in the Telegraph, they are reporting that two Chinese banks are restricting letters of credit for Russian comodity exports. It seems that China is looking at its economic relationships with the west. Sadly, as always, the article is behind a paywall.

Russian state TV praises Nigel Farage for his support of Putin in the Ukraine invasion.

I find it strange how Boris Johnson gets lambasted for Uk Russian dealings when France and Germany have a joint Russian gas Pipe line

I find it strange that you can't see the difference between purchasing energy from an unsavoury regime and being funded by it.

I doubt if our oil comes from a squeaky clean regime...

Cherrytree59 Fri 25-Feb-22 17:39:19

No need for Putin worry
Germany and and Italy have vetoed Swift Global bank Payment sanctions.

I find it strange how Boris Johnson gets lambasted for Uk Russian dealings when France and Germany have a joint Russian gas Pipe line .

Uk has North Sea Gas and smaller percentage from Norway.

Never thought I'd say it, but bring back Trump. Putin would never have done this of Trump hsd been around. Trump dealt very efficiently with N Korea and we haven't heard a peep from Kim whatever since.

What are you talking about? Seriously? Trump was being paid off by Putin (he even had secret meetings with him - admitted by the White House - where only they and interpreters were present, and no minutes were produced, and there are no records of what was discussed). Trump would have done whatever Putin told him to. And as for Kim Jong un - despite all the hot air, nothing changed between North and South Korea. Indeed, in a book written by Trump's former security adviser John Bolton, Bolton said “this entire two-year-long effort with North Korea ended in diplomatic failure. But that allowed the North Koreans the time that they need to continue to pursue nuclear weapons and ballistic missile delivery systems.” Unfortunately, South Korea may ultimately pay the price for Trump's incompetence.

Lots of interesting views, thoughts, and feelings on this. I am concerned how the US will act over the coming week as I'm almost positive if they react in any way the UK will have to follow suit. I'm desperately sorry for Ukraine, No one but no one I'm sure wants ww3...

CarlyD7 Fri 25-Feb-22 17:26:00

I don't know where to start. (1) Putin, via his cronies in the UK (just check how much money Russian oligarchs have contributed to Tory Party coffers) got us out of the EU - he wants the EU to fail; the more divided Europe is, the better for him. (2) We are too reliant on Russian Gas (all those Extinction Rebellion calls for better insulated homes so we need less energy don't look so silly now??) (3) Putin has timed this when the West is at its weakest - just coming out of a pandemic, and trying to get back to some kind of normality - no-one wants us to go to war if we can avoid it. (4) Putin no longer has his puppet, Trump, in the White House, so he can highlight the lack of action on the part of the USA (useful when Trump wants to get re-elected). (5) China will be watching our lack of action with interest, especially when it comes to its aims to claim Taiwan. We are watching another Hitler march into Poland. We didn't act quickly enough then, and we haven't now. God help the poor people of Ukraine.

Serendipity22 Fri 25-Feb-22 17:13:52

Yes nadateturbe i know precisely how you feel. I have tripped off to where i please today, driven along to my destination without a care in the world, without fear or trepidation and then knowing what is happening in Ukraine, pulls me up and left me feeling utterly sad inside, guilty...... its heartbreaking to see these people....

Dinahmo Fri 25-Feb-22 17:13:16

Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged the Ukrainian army to overthrow its leadership whom he labelled as a “gang of drug addicts and neo-Nazis who have has lodged itself in Kyiv and taken hostage the entire Ukrainian people.”
