Sorry to report that @ukhomeoffice is refusing entry to Ukrainians at Paris Gare du Nord seeking to join family in UK because they don’t have a visa. And not being helped to apply for a visa.

So you agree with Poland not letting any blacks in then, no condemnation from you it seems.

Maudi Mon 28-Feb-22 09:08:35

Rubbish.

Speaking to The Independent, Osarumen, a father-of-three, said he and his family members were waved away from the border on Saturday and told, “No blacks”.

“Since then, I’ve been trying to get myself together and focus as normal but it’s been difficult,” he said.

“In all of my years as an activist, I have never seen anything like this. When I look into the eyes of those who are turning us away, I see bloodshot racism; they want to save themselves and they are losing their humanity in the process.

“I cannot imagine a scenario where white Ukranians would ever be denied asylum so how they’re treating us is unwarranted. It’s baseless. We are all escaping so let’s push a common thread.”

How awful can you imagine the outrage if this was happening in the UK.

We are doing it every day!

This government is defined by it’s performative cruelty against
foreigners.

Good to hear that we are watching and then following the EU on various decisions.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 28-Feb-22 08:14:26

Perhaps the U.K. will offer to rescue them?

I find this news appalling, puts another view on trying to leave a war zone.
www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/ukraine-concerns-mount-as-black-people-complain-of-racism-while-fleeing-war-zone/ar-AAUnMpK.

They have shown footage of this on Good Morning Britain earlier this morning.

Haven’t seen any news, just read headlines. Just find this as upsetting as everything else. I know people are frightened, but come on, many of these people are just students.

I have emailed Matt Hancock our MP. I don’t hold out hope!
I recommend the article in this morning’s Guardian for details. You cannot bring your elderly mother or siblings, without a visa at about £1200 for a next day visa.

The EU is allowing Ukranian people in to stay for up to 3 years without going through the normal channels.

Callistemon21 Sun 27-Feb-22 23:23:55

And especially this case study

Hypothetical or an actual case in the last few days?

People are fleeing, not hanging around waiting for permission through the usual channels!!

Johnson has said they are allowed to join family here (as reported in The Guardian).
He stood up in the Ukrainian Cathedral in London and assured the people there that this would be so, now let us see that put into practice.

This is probably some jobsworth applying normal immigration rules, not in extreme circumstances like these.

That MP is an idiot too.

Agree Gill

Well if it was aimed at me Zoejory, I am sorry for your worry about your relative in the armed forces, as I am for all of them,.but i still stick with what i posted. I am not scoring political points, I am bloody furious at this shoddy shameful government that is not stepping up and helping people who are running for their lives. A shoddy shameful government funded with money from Putin's supporters.

volver Sun 27-Feb-22 20:10:09

You might even want to ask to have it deleted, I'm actually quite worried about it.

volver Sun 27-Feb-22 20:07:28

Who is that aimed at Zoejory? Me?

Probably best not to share on social media what the troops are doing in theatre of war. That's probably why it wasn't covered in the news.

Zoejory Sun 27-Feb-22 20:03:31

I need to tell my sister in law that her son is out there for no good reason. Maybe he could read these posts from people who know nothing about what's happening. Relying on tweets. It's pathetic and just misinformation. How you can attempt to score political points at a time like this beats me.

This wasn't hugely covered in the news at the time, but my nephew is one of many troops sent to Ukraine to work out the logistics of the refugees. People are working flat out but of course you all know best.

This war has been going on for 4 days. It's a nightmare. Refugees that have been heading to Poland are taking 24+ hours to get there.

I do hope that you're enjoying yourselves with your misinformation.

@ukhomeoffice
has denied entry to a 69 yr old Ukrainian widow, fleeing the fighting in Kharkiv, to join her daughter in the UK. They suggested she apply for a visitor visa or remain in France, where she has no relatives & doesn’t speak French.

EU announces it has agreed unanimously amongst all member countries to take in Ukrainian refugees for up to 3 years without asking them to first apply for asylum. Just been announced following a meeting of EU Interior ministers.

But you know, bendy bananas and blue passports. It was all worth it. sad

Seems they are fleeing Paris is it that bad there?
