Sorry to report that @ukhomeoffice is refusing entry to Ukrainians at Paris Gare du Nord seeking to join family in UK because they don’t have a visa. And not being helped to apply for a visa.

I've just written to my MP about this in the hope that he will do something to help. He never replies, but I don't give up hope that one day my voice will be heard and make a difference. I don't think I've ever written to him about something I care about more so please could other Grans, especially those who have active, responsive MPs please write to them about this. If we can't help people escape this horror there is something wrong with our country.

Just what I expected, this government is disgraceful and I will certainly email Liam Fox my MP . To think that Patels family came here when they were fleeing and were given a great deal of help. This party are probably still accepting Russian money_.

Some countries are waiving visa requirements for Ukrainians.

Unbelievable. I will certainly write.
I write regularly and usually get a response, and often follow up action. Not good that yours doesn't respond Coastpath

Romania, Slovakia, Poland and even Hungary are looking so much better than us and lifting restrictions on taking pets in as well.

Just whizzed of an e-mail to my mp who is Labour but I’m sure every single bit of pressure will make a difference.

Listening to a representative from the UN this morning who said that most of the people fleeing want to stay as close to home as they can.

Of course they do and will return as soon as they can, but that does not mitigate the attitude of the Home Office.

There are those who have Ukrainian spouses who want to bring them to U.K. but can’t because they can’t get a visa, or who have families here.

Yep

And while we are on the subject

Has anyone seen or read Lord Lebedev condemning the Russian invasion?

Johnson’s Russian representative in the House if Lords.

Caught the end of a news item where it was said a Minister suggested the Ukrainian refugees went to UK as fruit pickers - really ? Compassion deficit I think.

“The UK Border Agency is turning back Ukrainians at the Paris Eurostar terminal.

What has Britain become?”

The cruelty of some Tories knows no bounds, sadly. However, I think the problem is also the sheer incompetence that has surounded the Conservative government for the last decade plus.

Please follow through on this statement Johnson

"Of course we're going to take refugees."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the UK is "way out in front in our willingness to help refugees" and "will help people fleeing in fear of their lives".

Seems they are fleeing Paris is it that bad there?

foxie48 Sun 27-Feb-22 09:06:00

I have written to my MP, this is appalling.

My heart goes out to you.

I had no idea that you had received a empathetic by-pass

Coastpath Sun 27-Feb-22 09:19:36

Thank you so much to posters writing to your MPs.

If enough people do this I am sure we can drive a change of opinion.

Maudi I am sure Paris is not bad - but that our country isn't offering a safe haven to people fleeing this horrific situation is not what I though Britain was all about. We are a compassionate people with a big heart and now is the time to show that.

A dreadful state of affairs. We must also remember that there are UK citizens married and in partnerships with Ukrainians, who cannot leave their families to return to the UK without them. Who would expect them to?

They are not fleeing Paris. Many of them will have been backwards and forwards many times visiting relatives in the UK. Wherelse would they seek shelter until they can, we hope, go back to a peaceful Ukraine.

... perhaps they are not so much 'fleeing Paris' as attempting to join relatives / friends here in the UK?

And I'm sure some will stay in France anyway - and be welcomed.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Feb-22 10:19:36

I have just watched the Sunday Morning programme, where it was said that the U.K. is prioritising U.K. citizens with Ukrainian dependents along with those with relatives in the U.K.

They then showed a clip of Mr,Johnson last night saying that the U.K. will accept Ukrainian refugees. Hopefully he will keep his word…

This thread is based on a tweet by a law firm which prides itself on its immigration work. The tweet is being treated as evidence of official government policy. Is it any more reliable than what you might read in the Daily Mail?
