Sorry to report that @ukhomeoffice is refusing entry to Ukrainians at Paris Gare du Nord seeking to join family in UK because they don’t have a visa. And not being helped to apply for a visa.
Those poor Ukrainians should be let in to the UK without question and allowed to stay until this awfull situation is over.
Yup Volver, he is a repellent little man. He is getting a pasting on Twitter, many are referring to him as Lord Haw Haw. Aaron Banks, who bankrolled Leave.eu campaign is another one who is on the Putin payroll, read about his libel case against Carole Cadwallader, the investigative journalist, and even the most ardent of Brexiteers will realise, finally, just why Brexit happened and who funded it. For those about to post that this isn't relevant to what is happening to Ukraine, well, yes it is actually. Your right wing Tory government, your ERG members, are in it up to their necks with Russian funding, what did you think it was all about? Entry visas for stars of the Bolshoi ballet?
Farage is tweeting from the US. Complaining about all sort of stuff like LGBTQ rights and why Biden isn't in Europe and how he's been warning about this for 30 years.
He really is a wanker. See this, Farage supporters. See what your man is like. Appeaser and apologist.
Noticeable silence from the Russian funded anti immigration spokespeople such as Aaron Banks and Nigel Farage. Presumably he who pays the piper calls the tune eh?
As usual the EU will be blamed by the British press for any difficulty
encountered by a Ukrainian.
And especially this case study
Sasha lives in Ukraine with her British wife, Wanda. Fearing an imminent wholescale invasion of Ukraine, Sasha applies for a spouse visa using the family reunion form.
She is unable to meet the financial requirement of the Appendix FM spouse rules because they both work in Ukraine, they have no other income or savings and Wanda does not have a job offer starting within three months of her return to the UK. Although Sasha speaks excellent English, she has not had the chance to sit a SELT English language test to prove it.
Sasha explains this in a letter provided in support of the application, as well as the reason why she and Wanda need to leave Ukraine as soon as possible. She also provides evidence that they are both economically active and that she completed a series of English language qualifications which do not meet the requirements but nevertheless show that the requirements would likely be met if they had more time to plan for the application. (This additional evidence is not essential but it is helpful.)
Sasha attends a biometrics appointment in Kyiv. Within two days, her application is granted and she is given leave outside the Rules for 12 months. Her visa vignette is endorsed with three months of leave to enter, so she needs to enter the UK during that period and then pick up her 12-month biometric residence permit.
Before the 12 months expire, Sasha makes an in-country spouse application, this time evidencing her job in the UK and the SELT English language test that she passed. She is given 30 months permission to stay and should be eligible to apply for settlement after five years.
Note that if Sasha were able to meet all of the requirements when she lodged the application from Ukraine, she would instead have been granted the usual 33 months of permission to enter as a spouse.

To be fair Whitewavemark2 Ukrainians have got to go through multiple countries to reach the U.K.
The U.K. is prioritising those with U.K. connections, there are no flights for them so they will be travelling overland. If the videos of the Ukrainian Border are to be believed most are abandoning their vehicles as the queues are horrendously long (being reported as 60+ hours) so they will be reliant on trains, buses and/or the kindness of strangers/friends/relatives in those Countries.
I should imagine that we shall see refugees arriving in the coming days and by then a system should be in place.
(Poland is telling those fleeing to bring their pets with them and they will be welcomed also)
Have you read the OP- those people turned away at Gare du Nord, stopped from boarding the Eurostar- have family in the UK who have begged them to flee and come to them- They will house them and feed them, and look after them.
But they still got to go through all the red tape of applying for Visa, and prove they have sufficient funds. And this does not apply to anyone who is a dependent adult. So if a woman flees with her kids and her mother- even if she gets a Visa, she will have to dump mother in Paris.
Why is this at all surprising? If you are prepared to let people drown, if you keep asylum seekers waiting for years, if you change legislation so that people fleeing wars are labelled as criminals if they enter the UK using different routes why on earth would anyone even imagine this government would welcome Ukranian refugees?
They are simply applying the standards they have always held
Whitewavemark2
There will be possibly 4 million people fleeing and probably millions more if Putin uses the heavy weaponry that he has threatened us with.
We must take our fair share they can’t all stop at the border.
Exactly. We need to get those out who want to come and have relatives who can take them in first and foremost. That should be simple to arrange. We must relieve the pressure on those dealing with the people at the immediate border. While we are doing that we should be getting ready to take more.
Where are you maudi please explain
Maudi
Seems they are fleeing Paris is it that bad there?
Can you please tell me where you are finding this information please as it isn’t on being discussed here on the 24 hour news channel?
I've just been on Twitter and following.

^So if you were a Ukrainian fleeing for your life and hopefully being given a temporary home with your relative in the U.K., how would you go about entry?^
I’m simply clarifying the facts around the particular tweet you’ve based your thread on. This has clearly annoyed you.
Find somebody else to pick a fight with.
?. I never get annoyed- why would I? Just asking a perfectly reasonable question.

I do hope we will take in refugees when they get here.
At a guess, NATO and individual Countries will have to start providing transport soon.
I'm ashamed of my country.
It is easier for an Oligarchs son to get into the House Of Lords, than it is for a Ukrainian refugee to get into the UK
Lifted from Twitter.
The idiotic Tory MP who tweeted that Ukrainian refugees can apply to pick fruit and veg here has deleted his tweet. Not only is he a moral vacuum he is stupid; it has been copied all over twitter.

I wouldn’t class myself as unduly suspicious, but do think we should check anything we read or are told. Yes, Wilson Solicitors is a bona fide company. They were tweeting about one family or one person (see their later tweet - “Hopefully a visa will be issued”). I doubt they meant to confuse anyone, but it’s clear that some posters, and others who’ve responded on Twitter, thought they were saying that there’s a general block on all Ukrainians trying to get into the country.

Do Wilson solicitors actually exist or is this just a propaganda exercise to discredit Britain or more so the Tory party.
The Tory party are doing a great job on their own to discredit Britain on the world stage, they don't need to employ anyone to do it Maudi. Why didn't you just Google like anyone can to check on the validity of Wilson Solicitors, must you always be so suspicious?
Doodledog
I saw that programme, and when Liz Truss was asked if we would take refugees she dodged the issue. Asked for a response to the fruit-picking tweet, she just said that she thought that it had been taken down, and she finished her interview by saying that this was a fight for freedom and democracy in Europe.
Clearly freedom and democracy are not important enough to her to shake her belief that we should not offer help and hospitality to women and children fleeing war, though.
I almost threw the remote at the TV.
She wasn't asked about a windfall tax. Disappointing.
Pressure clearly helps.
Perhaps sufficient pressure will kick Patel’s ass and she will waive visas for what is going to be a European disaster, particularly if Thermobaric weapons are used.
The UK government's attitude to refugees has been hostile for a long time, so I'm really not surprised at this. It is shameful.
