The Duke of Sussex has launched a libel action against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday over a story alleging that he lied about offering to pay for his UK police protection.

The claim was lodged with the High Court on Wednesday afternoon.

I looked at the link you kindly supplied volver. It refers to ‘legal letters‘ being sent. That’s not the same as starting a libel action.

The mail has named the person they claim has lied.

This pair said a member of a family had asked questions about the skin colour of their unborn child but refused to give a name , thus leaving an entire family open to accusations of racism whilst they safeguard themselves .

I’m sure the press prints all manner of conjecture and untruths about the RF but do they sue? No. They have this thing called ‘dignity’ which Harry has lost somewhere along the line, I suspect after meeting his wife.

Oh aye?

Did Prince William lose his dignity after meeting his wife?

Casdon Sun 27-Feb-22 09:31:44

This is the third claim against the same newspaper group, one Harry won, one still pending. They are mounting a vendetta against him. Regardless of what people think of him, he has every right to sue when the media lie about him. I don’t care who it is, every citizen should support claims of this kind which newspapers will continue to get away with if they aren’t challenged. NB he isn’t claiming against a half truth or misinformation, but a lie.

If somebody says something it is proven that they said it. There is evidence. If a newspaper makes up a story without evidence it is pernicious. Both may be untrue, but they are not the same thing at all.

Personally I'd be inclined to be a lot more angry with a close relative lying about my family in a television interview, than a popular newspaper. The latter are filled with half truths and misinformation and most of us appreciate that.

When I read the OP I thought it must be old news. I’m losing count.

It’s like Groundhog Day.

because a person sues for libel doesn't mean they will win! it has to be proven in court and both sides heard! don't just assume the other party lied!

Anniebach Sun 27-Feb-22 08:46:40

A lie is a lie , if the Mail has made up a story why is it different to the lies on Oprah?

LadyGracie Sun 27-Feb-22 08:42:38

Yes how?
They seem to me to be a publicity seeking manipulative couple, not at all likeable.
The simpering looks they share, they make me cringe.

Casdon Sun 27-Feb-22 08:41:00

It’s not the same thing though is it? Harry said what he said in person. The Mail is accused of making up a story and printing it. That’s pernicious, and he is correct to sue them if they have printed lies about him.

M0nica Sun 27-Feb-22 08:38:40

How do people know this is a lie?

eazybee Sun 27-Feb-22 08:35:21

Stories about H & M are all grist to the Mail's publicity mill and help sell newspapers; the paper knows exactly what it is doing and this unpleasant couple rises to the bait every time.

LadyGracie Sun 27-Feb-22 08:34:45

Agree Annie.

His family didn’t sue him or his wife for their lies in the Oprah
interview

Good point Annie

What, more inflammatory lies in the Daily Mail? Hard to believe I know. Much easier to put the boot into the victim of those lies.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 27-Feb-22 08:16:34

Come on, it’s about time the tabloids were called out on their lies! I am right with Harry on this. Just because he was born Royal doesn’t mean he can’t sue. I’m sure the Cambridge’s have sued too. Don’t you remember when Catherine was sunbathing topless and she was filmed from about three miles away? At the other extreme, the Queen Mother’s mantra was to never explain or complain. I’m not sure that’s the way forward.

nanna8 Sun 27-Feb-22 08:07:38

Surprised he reads it or gives a toss what they write. I thought he was a bit better than that.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Feb-22 07:59:55

If the Mail on Sunday printed lies about Prince Harry, then he has every right to sue them.

Would anyone let this go if it was about them?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 27-Feb-22 07:22:43

I expect GN will be next given the lunatic posts we get on here.

BlueBalou Sun 27-Feb-22 07:19:58

Why the heck doesn’t this tiresome twerp just shut up?
Or is he running out of money?

vegansrock Sun 27-Feb-22 04:52:21

Why do people tell lies about them and print them?
Another opportunity to put the boot in folks!

volver Sat 26-Feb-22 23:27:28

I'm sure somebody could get a psychology PhD out of this.
