I read that GB News is funded by a Russian oligarch. Does anyone know if that is correct?

... well we still don't know what Cummings was actually doing in Russia from '94 to '97 after he graduated from Oxford. There were questions raised about his security vetting prior to his appointment at Nr 10. Was he questioned about his relationships with various individuals in Russian politics, intelligence and security?

And then there is still that report, compiled by cross-party intelligence and security. We know Russia has interfered -or tried to - in other countries' democratic processes. Did Russian money flow into British politics in general and to the Conservative party in particular?

As Cummings was one of the main architects of the Leave campaign he has questions he needs to answer, never mind slinging mud at Johnson.

We once sat around a fire and told of epic victories and the leader's strength (or ability to learn from a spider).

All politicians understand that controlling the narrative affects the outcome. Such people know we are hard-wired to subsume a good story. So they highlight the truths that back the outcome they desire.

Taking it one step further, others, e.g., Putin, Johnson and Trump, to name three, will lie to change the story to their advantage. Challenges to the lies must then be quashed to maintain the narrative. Putin has closed down access to the internet. Trump used a Twitter fest to drown out the truth and groupthink to extend the myth. Boris ignores age-old democratic rules. He refuses to accept the truth or correct lies. He relies on the bias in the press towards his party, creating his own groupthink. They will quote his lies as if they are the truth.

Putin's story was that it was a rescue mission, that they would be greeted by the general population and garlanded with flowers. In the end, you cannot deny the truth. The soldier's going into Ukraine have faced that moment of truth. It is then down to their conscience; which is why we end up having war crimes trials.

One day those who have swallowed Johnson's fake narrative will have something put before them which breaks the story completely for them. It will then be down to their conscience. We have already seen this to some extent about Brexit but the believers have been able to let that wash over them. Let's hope we still have our democracy by the time the scales fall from the eyes of those taken in by Johnson.

In all three cases, the intent is to change the narrative sufficiently to destroy democracy and gain power.

I'd sort of assumed that the party thing would be pushed to one side to avoid discrediting our PM publicly when we need to be seen to have steady, reliable, honest leadership (or the closest thing to it that Mr Johnson can achieve) at this desperate time.

I have wondered if Dominic Cummings timed the spilling of the party beans in an attempt to topple our leader right on the eve of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. We'd be without a leader at the point in the last 70 years when we have really needed one. I've not heard anyone else say that so it might be one of my wilder fantasies.

I don't think all his supporters are gullible at all. Some have admitted they know he's a liar. And some don't believe he lies. Other are prepared to overlook them. Others still are just 'natural' Tories and will not support any other party (though there are those who will simply just not vote because of him).

And there are supporters who will continue to support him regardless - because he shows contempt for the same people they have contempt for.

It's a habit he cannot break.

He's always lied; he's a very competent liar and will continue to lie long after he's no longer PM. It's what he does. He's well know for it and suffers little consequence, hence he carries on.

Because it's natural to him. Some are deliberate lies, some are incompetent lies because he doesn't check his facts properly, others are just wild things that pop into his head.

It is a good idea to keep a thread like this going, although it will soon fill up.

He will carry on lying until he gets thrown out and I can't see that happening any time soon. There are still plenty of people who believe his lies, in particular about covid and until more people start to recognise his lies we are stuffed.

Yes I agree another total lie! He has no control over the lies which he utters. I really can’t stand all his boasting “world beating” “we were the first .....” etc etc. The speaker once again was very very weak come back John Bercow.

If anybody queries what he says he waffles his way out of it , I am sure the other MPs know but members of the public take it as gospel. It is so sad.
