Have angst that this may happen as British Nationals advised to leave Russia..so am praying hard that diplomatic discussions will prevail

It has a channel on Youtube too, Dinahmo

Has anyone else read the Byline Times? It has a variety of contributors including Carole Cadwallader and Duncan Campbell and has some interesting comments to make on the links between Russia and the UK during Brexit. Some of these you are no doubt aware of but others maybe not.
Here's a link

* I (and some experts) do not believe he is mad but I do believe he has ended up believing his own propaganda* Perhaps this might be a definition of madness?

That might apply to the New Right in the Conservative Party and/or Brexiteers as some of them seem to believe the propaganda they are so fond of but no one is suggesting they were all mad.

I've heard the thinking that Putin is ill. If he was told he has a terminal illness, he may feel he has little time to shape his legacy. That would not be great. One suggestion has been it could be drugs to counteract an illness the have given his face its rather different look.

Yes it has. Of course its possible.

I'll step out now because this is going nowhere.

M0nica Sun 13-Mar-22 20:04:26

Yes, this war could escalate into WW3 and that has been on the cards and discussed since this war started.

No question. But just saying it?

Its possible that you could get run over by a bus tomorrow.

Has that helped you get through the evening and rationalise the future?

That's quite a statement Esmay.

And not very helpful, if I may say so.

It may not what you want to hear, but it is a rational opinion.

It's possible - that this could escalate into World War 3 .
I hope and pray that it doesn't .

Thank you so much for posting that volver. A tiny glimmer of hope at last. Please let it be true.

news.sky.com/story/ukraine-war-military-base-used-for-nato-drills-near-poland-targeted-by-russian-airstrikes-12564880

Don't be put off by the headline. The article is about substantial progress in peace talks.

M0nica Sun 13-Mar-22 16:14:30

Unfortunately that Putin has nothing going for him at present is what makes him so dangerous. Since he has nothing to lose there are no restraints on what he may choose to do.

Coastpath Sun 13-Mar-22 16:09:43

I wonder if Nato is waiting for Putin to do something so appalling that it makes China get off the fence and condemn Russia. Without China, Russia will be very isolated.

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 13-Mar-22 15:54:12

Putin doesn't appear to have a lot going for him right now. There is a suggestion he has cancer (hopefully terminal)!! Also a suggestion his war crimes could have him marched out of the Kremlin? Wait and see!!

It has been pointed out how many of the online "epidemiologists", "vaccine experts" etc., have now become online military strategists. Truly a miracle of the age.

Amazing isn’t it…

I’m just thinking about what happens if Russia uses chemical weapons other WMD in Ukraine.
At what stage might NATO get involved in defending Ukraine.

I don’t think that they will. The implications are too awful to contemplate.

The U.K. has got to be a prime target for Putin.

There was an interesting article in the Obswerver today discussing Putin's health and there seems to be a general agreement among Kremlinologists, that he is ill, although precisely what condition he has is not absolutely clear and a strong belief that he has been on steroids, for health reasons for some time, and this may be part of the reason for his current decision making.

His behaviour has been uncharacteristic in recent months, long rambling speeches and those bizarre tables.

Aveline Sun 13-Mar-22 14:43:21

A bit different but here's a 'joke' I found on Twitter. It made me smile grimly!

GSM I think it's arguable about how much control we had over Covid - there are many who took every precaution possible and still caught it. However, if you felt you had some level of control, then that's fine.

I find it all so confusing, and my gut tells me there's something far bigger going on behind the scenes. What would be the point of a nuclear war? It would render huge areas of the world unusable for a hundred years due to radiation. But then again, if the leaders are waiting to see what Biden is doing and then follow suit, we are done for. He doesn't even know what country he's in half the time. Then the data from Pfizer is now coming out heavily redacted which makes you wonder what they're trying to keep from us. This is the most scared I've been in over 50 years, when I was a young teenager, and I thoght then that Russia was goign to nuke us.

Firstly, I would stop reading/listening to "fake news".

He may seem to win but holding a country of that size and population, will make it exceedingly difficult to hold. Nuclear war would be a tragedy for all - including Russia. That is why governments - including the US, that you are so disparaging about - are working to give Putin a way out. I (and some experts) do not believe he is mad but I do believe he has ended up believing his own propaganda. He needs to be able to leave the scene with something to hang on to. That is what the allies are trying to provide. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes that you seem to be unaware of.

I don't know what you are talking about re Pfizer. Again, where are you getting this from?

We are all concerned. Some experts can let us know the real facts. I can only say again, be careful who you read and believe. They don't seem to be doing you any good.

M0nica Sun 13-Mar-22 12:48:07

volver gosh there is nothing like a self-appointed 'expert' finding he can get paid to pontificate for really sending them mentally in to the wide blue yonder!.

volver Sun 13-Mar-22 12:43:48

I think they even get paid something if you watch the first few seconds, which you definitely can't avoid.
