Reading this article about a Russian journalist’s protest I was so impressed by her bravery but I’m sure I wouldn’t possess that courage.

.... which is precisely what Putin will not allow to happen ...

I hope I might have been that brave when I was young, I was a risk-taker and got furious at lies. Lost that daredevilry when I had my first son though. If it is publicised in Russia that she got off lightly (although she probably hasn't in the long run) that is a double-edged propaganda as it's sending a message in Russia that dissent is tolerated - & hopefully might embolden others who are less brave.

Not the Ipcress file volver - think Salisbury. She is being paraded before the media as having had a fair trial - we should not fall for this. Putin will not be mocked or thwarted. She will pay the price, poor brave woman.

I've been to Russia on a cruise. We booked a taxi tour with a guide. The guide was very good and knew everything about the buildings. We asked him if he'd ever been to England. He said no he never fancied England but maybe France one day. The driver was silent and didnt speak. In the art gallery alone with the guide he told me he would love to come to England but they would never let him go as he worked for the government as a guide and was valuable to them. He said don't say anything in front of the taxi driver. On the way back to the ship we were in a huge traffic jam. Our 'taxi driver' took a card from his pocket and waved it out of the window. The traffic parted, busses and lorries mounted the pavement and we went straight through.
People in Russia are not at all free. I feel sorry for this woman and hope she's ok.

That is indeed good news Faranah

Farzanah Wed 16-Mar-22 18:40:33

I see on the BBC site that there has been several resignations, some quite prominent journalists on Russian TV since her protest.

I would probably not been as brave, especially if I had young children as she has.

The fine was for her video, but that ,means she has not faced any charges in relation to disrupting the news program,

She could still end up being jailed for a long time.

I am in awe of Marina's bravery.

So it seems the majority are agreed that we're in awe of Marina Ovsyannikova's bravery, and clear we aren't so brave ourselves.

But maybe we don't all need to be so brave! We each need to play our part. We can help by keeping her "in the public eye", and hope that way to save her from the fate we believe is probably hers.

I remember marching to protest Tony Blair's war against Iraq (among others). P...ing in the wind, but I did hope he might see the wrongness of his intentions. We live in a world where such decisions are made by a tiny minority. And money is made (selling arms) on the back of those decisions. "How the West got Rich".

Wow she was soo brave!
To answer your question , no I’m certain I wouldn’t be that brave ! I’m a total wimp and I’m sure must come from a long line of ancestors who ran away and hid during every battle or when encountered with any danger lol
I’m think she’s amazing though !!

Allsorts Wed 16-Mar-22 16:13:23

No one knows until they are in that position, it was so brave of her and although she’s not in prison, I am sure Putin will target her. It’s a dreadful situation over there, all because of the madman.

Apologies everyone, for the diversion.

Amazingly brave, we will never see or hear from that lady again
I hope and pray she and her children are now on their way out of Russia
be interesting to find out her fate!

Well, here she is!!

Give us some credit, volver, or have you not heard of Salisbury?

Kim19 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:55:06

I really do fear for her (and her's) future. There's really no escape when Mr Putin is scorned. I SO hope I'm wrong.

volver Wed 16-Mar-22 15:41:00

Before we start writing her off, here she is last night.

Too many people watching the Ipcress File, I think...

queenofsaanich69 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:31:09

Amazingly brave,we will never see or hear from that lady again,I couldn’t do that in Russia

crazyH Wed 16-Mar-22 15:09:33

Brave girl, but slightly foolish. Feel so sorry for her family

grandtanteJE65 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:07:32

I hope I would be as brave in similar circumstances.

I hope and pray she and her children are now on their way out of Russia - as she was released with a fine yesterday, but it would not surprise me if she is arrested again or just disappears if she stays in Russia.

She had filmed a video before she went on the air so maybe she has now changed her appearance and got herself and the children out of Russia.

That is what I would have planned in her place.

Dianehillbilly1957 Wed 16-Mar-22 15:02:32

I'm hoping the world doesn't forget about her and her bravery! I'm also hoping she'll be safe, be interesting to find out her fate!

crazygranny Wed 16-Mar-22 14:58:01

This war has revealed that there is so much courage and caring everywhere.

4allweknow Wed 16-Mar-22 14:55:35

Probably be jailed for a good number of years. I would guess hiven her job as tv programme/news program producer she has a wide view of the world and cannot accept what is going on in Ukraine. Understand one of her parents is Russian and one Ukranian. Think in her circumstances I would be very tempted to make a public stand.

Dylant1234 Wed 16-Mar-22 12:55:37

I’d love to be that brave but I know I wouldn’t be!

sandelf Wed 16-Mar-22 12:09:37

I think it demonstrates the depth of her desperation and shame at what is going on and what she had been made complicit with.

effalump Wed 16-Mar-22 12:09:28

My guess is that woman is desperate. At what point do you risk something like this, especially in a country that can make you 'disappear', like China.
