Offensive bilge from Johnson

At the Tory party conference today, Johnson made a speech in which he equated choosing freedom from Brussels by voting for Brexit with the Ukrainian people fighting to rid their country of Russian oppression.

Farzanah Wed 30-Mar-22 14:05:01

Gosh did he really say that?
What does he say in private if he says this sort of thing in public I wonder - or perhaps better not to know.?

PECS Wed 30-Mar-22 14:10:45

His crass analogy was to turn the media attention back on HIM!

Too many people /headlines were not talking about him and all his wonderful achievements confusedbut about a war.

He might also be worried to that any connections he might have with various Russian oligarchs & businesses will become a focus

GillT57 Wed 30-Mar-22 14:14:21

yes Farzanah.

His speech during PMQs was nauseating.

That man….. and yet he has his devoted followers and someone will be along to say “it was just a joke stop Boris bashing”

GillT57 Wed 30-Mar-22 14:45:40

I do wonder if even the devoted followers have taken off their rose tinted glasses Lucca. Probably not.

There was a wonderful bit on James O'Brien the other day where he had an eight minute discussion with a caller who just kept saying he didn't agree with the Tories were doing but at least they weren't Labour. A lot of it hinged on JOB asking the caller why, but asking him not to mention cheese or penises. wink Needless to say, there was nothing enlightening in the discussion. Basically just that Labour won't send people to jail. confused

When Roger Gale asked Johnson at PMQT how many Ukrainians the had been given visas had actually arrived in this country he didn’t answer him. He admitted just now to the select committee that he didn’t actually know. So, in a situation where he has to be truthful he is. Why doesn’t he have to give a truthful answer in parliament?

My relative and friends are waiting to host three families who are currently in Poland (accommodation funded by relative and friends ). The bureaucracy has ground to a halt. They fear it will be weeks/months.

Farzanah Wed 30-Mar-22 19:33:58

Johnson is briefed before question time on current issues he is likely to be asked about, but he hasn’t got a strong history of reading briefs. He should have known but think mindless waffling covers it.

Brexit delayed pandemic plans says disaster expert

Johnson has not had a "good pandemic"

Wake up and stop believing the propaganda of the rightwing press.

I remember in the January all the Big Ben bonging for brexit stuff and I was hearing all those reports from China wondering what in earth was going to happen.

If you can watch the latest Led by Donkeys video.

Is is absolutely disgusting at what the Tory party has become. It is without any morals whatsoever, and frightening what they are doing to the U.K.

Everyone should be aware of their behaviour.

flump Thu 31-Mar-22 15:18:08

I've just watched this horrendous catalogue of immoral Tory activities (not to mention the recent ones which would take too long to list but are probably available elsewhere) and am reminded of a quote from J K Galbraith (1908-2006).

"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy, that is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

So many bad things have happened over the past few years I’m beginning to forget them. We filled up with petrol today and I remembered the petrol shortage last year.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 31-Mar-22 17:32:20

Thanks for the link folks. I can’t do them.

Do watch it if you haven’t already done so, it is open mouthed stuff.

Casdon Thu 31-Mar-22 17:50:00

I’ve just watched it. I hope the Tory supporters on the site do too, it’s an eye opener.

GillT57 Thu 31-Mar-22 17:52:20

I have just watched it. Chilling. Johnson must surely be guilty of treason, as is Osborne. Anyone who is unable to see the connection between Putin, certain sections of the Tory party and Brexit is in my opinion too stupid to vote. Unless this Russian infiltration is what they wanted. Didn't see that on the side of the bus

Coastpath Thu 31-Mar-22 18:09:07

I watched it. I also hope all GN Tory supporters watch it too. Johnson's comments on Syria sicken me.

When people say they are politically homeless and will not vote or will spoil their ballot paper, I do hope they realise that they will almost certainly be giving the Russian funded Tory party another period of power.

varian Thu 31-Mar-22 20:14:02

Let's just stop saying that it was the will of the British people to leave the EU.

Brexit was the will of Vladimir Putin.

He was able to get away with poisonous propaganda designed to weaken the EU.

It did fool some of our people for some of the time.

I hope that those who were persuaded by Kremlin propaganda have now woken up to the Putin agenda.

Useful idiots such as Boris Johnson have been used by Putin. It is time for them to go.

Dinahmo Thu 31-Mar-22 23:03:56

I've just watched the Led by donkeys video - one of the worst indictments of the Tories I've seen.

I just hope that Tory voters will remember this and other actions by the Tory govt when it comes to the next elections and vote for other parties.

MayBee70 Thu 31-Mar-22 23:17:29

Even Julia Hartley Brewer is saying, on QT, that Johnson needs to resign.

grannyactivist Fri 01-Apr-22 03:35:54

Coastpath I live in a town that would literally vote for a pig if it was put up as a Tory candidate (that was actually said to me by a friend who’s a Conservative and loathes Johnson, but admits he will still vote Tory at the next GE). The only credible opposition candidate campaigned as an Independent at the last two elections, but will not stand again. So, I would rather spoil my vote than not vote at all.

Lucca Fri 01-Apr-22 06:02:01

I live in a “Boris is doing his best” town….and my brother and sister are of the same opinion ! However we do at least have a couple of alternative candidates

Just watched this. Thank you WWM and Varian

I am left wondering what our democracy can do to bring these people to account - or are we just going to be manipulated?
