Ilovecheese

She is probably trying to convince us that the parties in No. 10 were just "fluff" and that we should support Johnson .

She's trying to hitch the Conservative "war on woke" to the Ukraine issue. It's a Conservative conference speech and I wouldn't expect anything other than superficiality and headline fodder.

As well as being Foreign Secretary, she's also equalities minister, a role she usually ignores. There are real debates to be had about statues and pronouns, but she's towing the party line by dismissing them.

While I don't know what Liz Truss said, I would hope that those who are responsible for our national security (I dont mean politicians!) are not distracted from their work by such 'ludicrous debates'.

Personally I doubt very much that our obsession with such things has had any bearing on Putin's actions.

I would need to know what she said before forming an opinion. I’ll see if I can find it online.

Great thread title btw.

I would need to see the speech, as much depends on the context of what she said, which is not at all clear from the bit that is quoted in the OP.

I absolutely agree with her.

Liz Truss has made a speech calling for us to end the culture of self doubt, self questioning and introspection, and the 'ludicrous debates about language, statues and pronouns.' Do you agree with her ? Since the unspeakable atrocities have begun in the Ukraine, I feel that while we have been devoting energies to 'them' and 'they', arguing about statues and picking over the events of hundreds of years ago that cannot be changed, Putin has planned and carried out this nightmare assault. Are we guilty of giving too much attention - and power - to those who stridently undermine everything?
