Johnson's offensive speech at the Conservative Party Spring Conference.

He compared the "battles of Brexit" to those of Ukraine. If you can't believe your eyes, yes, he compared the "battles of Brexit" to those of Ukraine.

This speech was inexcusable. I saw it earlier and was horrified. Then you remember these are the tactics the New Right use - appealing to the lowest common denominator with Boris humour. This is the lowest he could sink. I can't see how anyone could find it funny but he was grinning away at the attendees.

They may have had to be seen attending to Covid, the cost of living crisis and the War in Ukraine but much of that, like Gove's temper tantrum, is PR designed window dressing. They were and still are only interested in politics, in winning the next election.

This wicked and immoral party will pretend Covid is over - goodness it's almost like no one died. Their MPs will tell you the only people who need food banks need to go out and get a job or increased hours. And although they will condemn the destructions of people's lives in Ukraine, they will do their level best to make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to come here.

Meanwhile, you can watch a very well made programme on Channel 4 tonight called "What if Putin goes Nuclear". At least some people are taking this seriously.

Ruddy Nora. His Peppa Pig rambling was a pro-British speech. I have honestly heard it all now.

The good thing about this thread is that nobody is defending what Johnson said about Brexit being like the horror the people of Ukraine are facing. I take comfort from that.

... to be strictly 'fair' at the same time as trying to be objective - necessary when criticising Johnson for fear of being labelled as a "Boris Basher" - although he rambled, there was a point to his circuitous Peppa Pig observations. The 'Pig' was a successful British enterprise. I believe that Hasbro, an American Multinational conglomerate has now bought the piggy's owner, Entertainment One though.

And Johnson, via Wilfred, probably knows quite a lot about Peppa...

So, it was a pro-British speech showcasing British endeavour.

Ironically, it was one of the UK-listed firms targeted by a foreign buyer after the £Pound weakened amid "Brexit fears" grin.

Just out of interest Urmstongran, how will you feel if it does turn out Brexit was "a Kremlin project. as has been suggested by many who know more than we do?

^Priti Patel has said Vladimir Putin might try to use Ukrainian women and children to infiltrate the UK^

Another Salisbury attack WWMk2?

I know this is sentimental, but it just seems apt.

"Their's is a sky all black with bombers, mine is the green field and the factory floor"

"Their's is a land with walls around it, mine is a faith in my fellow man."

Billy Bragg.

I’m glad we can agree to disagree Casdon without animosity. ??
Exchanging viewpoints pleasantly is nice.
I’m glad I made you laugh.

I read articles from various sources - some of which chime with my views, others that don’t but my eldest daughter encourages me ‘not to stay in an echo chamber mum’.

It really isn't "nice" when facts are blurred to the point of being untrue though Urmstongran.

Ignore that bit. I though something had posted too soon.

Just like it was for the Brexit voters eh?

The war is going badly in the South.
Brexit was a Kremlin project.
If Boris Johnson comes to Kyiv, I'll ask him: "PM, why did you celebrate your election victory with Russian (ex?) spy Alexander Lebedev who has a photo of his friend Vladimir Putin on his book?"

Johnson has conveniently decided not to mention that Putin backed brexit and achieved his aim of weakeing the EU and the UK in the process. He thought he could weaken Ukraine by supporting separatists but the Ukrainians will not allow it. They have more sense, more pride. more courage.

Anyone fancy a game of Boris Bingo?

Net Zero now. We must be close to a full house.

Urmstongran Sun 20-Mar-22 10:27:39

I happen to think net zero will be Boris’ nemesis. He has taken on the mantle of Ed Miliband’s virtue signalling, dystopian, claptrap vision of an energy policy, given it steroids and made it his signature dish…
…And no one wants it.

I can’t see Boris remaining if he doesn’t change tack and soon.

I don't hate Germany, I lived there happily for a part of my life and still have good friends from those days but the German government continues to buy Russian fuel and their response to Ukraine has been slow coming.

Have you looked to see what they are doing in order to retreat from Russian oil and gas?

Not from your post it would seem.

Never let research, truth or facts stand in the way of a good dogma.

Casdon Sun 20-Mar-22 10:25:48

You do make me laugh Urmstongran.. having one set of friends with the same politics as yourself who live in Wales and don’t like Mark Drakeford does not make you an expert. If you remember, the Welsh Senedd elections were in 2021, and Labour (and Mark Drakeford personally) had increased majorities. We don’t despair here. The current forecast is that the Tories will lose all the Welsh seats they gained in 2019 at the next election, which may be why you are despairing though.

Well volver as I mentioned upthread the USA couldn’t seem to find ‘anyone’ better than Trump from their 350 million citizens. Biden was the best the Democrats could come up with?

And regards Peppa Pig MayBee Boris was being highly relevant in his speech to the CBI as Peppa is a highly lucrative and very successful UK brand worldwide! I don’t recall him referencing the USA’s ‘Kermit the Frog’ (why would he?) but maybe I missed that.

But you seem to have no real knowledge of US politics - or the fact that it is their choice not ours to make.

Where exactly do you get your information from Urmstongran.

As opposed to your incorrect, left wing propaganda do you mean?

Oh do keep up.

I'm not a believer of incorrect left wing propaganda.

I'm a separatist bent on breaking up the UK, remember?

I think by ‘their people’ Kandinsky just meant these are the Tories who pay for memberships and attend party conferences DaisyAnne. Simple as. Their choice!

Kandinsky didn't say "their people" though, did she Urmstongran; she said "his people". Johnson has no allegiance to party or country so they may be "his" people but he will let them die or starve to keep his current position.
