They appear to be having a great time, far the troubles the rest of us are coping with. I am wondering what GB gets out of it apart from prior warning that once the Queen goes many of these islands will want to choose there own head of state. Sorry Will, I don't think it is going to be you.

Oh, I do like this thread smile

As others have said the monarchy has had its day

This tone deaf tour seemed like something from the 1950s.
Barbados became a Republic recently, apparently many other Caribbean nations are considering following them. Time for a Referendum here.

Too True

I was actually embarrassed for and of them

This as well. I feel sorry for them being paraded out like this. I’d hate it if it was me.

I am beginning to think that the monarchy has had its day.

Me too. I used to support the monarchy, but I’m changing my mind.

I am a similar age to Kate and William and I know enough to know I wouldn't be going over the Jamaica showing such privilege, they are a pair of dinosaurs hmm angry

Kate and Wills get a lot of freebie holidays RF don't have to pay though they can well afford to. Australia don't want to pay for anymore royal tours.

Glad that Jamaica is going to become a republic this year

In all fairness Grany, I absolutely would not want a holiday where I had to meet loads of people that I didn’t know, plaster a smile on my face all the time, wear loads of different clothes every day, and show huge interest in lots of things, some of which might nearly bore to death. I’m a coward too, so wouldn’t want to go diving in the sea.
I prefer to relax on my holidays and do as I want to do.

Bit strong there Petera. Actually nasty is a better word.

maddyone Wed 23-Mar-22 19:45:51

I’m not even sure we should have a monarchy ourselves, but that’s another question really.

The Queen has worked hard at keeping the idea of the Commonwealth alive but apparently the Cambridges are not being universally welcomed in some places. I think it’s time for the next monarch to be content with being King of the UK and let the other Commonwealth realms chose for themselves.

I absolutely agree.

volver Wed 23-Mar-22 19:37:55

Sorry, what was that Petera? I was too busy doffing my cap and tugging my forelock wink

Yes. It must be awful to eat chocolate and have to go scuba diving in the Carribean. hmm

grin OK, you have me on that one, volver. What about the boring speeches, interminable dinners of weird food and dad dancing in public? Wouldn't mind her lovely clothes though.

Sounds like every wedding I've ever been to. ?

Chardy Wed 23-Mar-22 18:15:11

Can UK have a referendum too please?

Urmstongran Wed 23-Mar-22 18:12:06

We are extremely privileged to have a royal family to represent our nation abroad. If the Jamaicans don't want to share a head of state with us, they should hold a referendum, but they might just prefer a British connection to keep them from being overwhelmed by the USA or China. It's up to them.

By the way, we should be preparing for a celebration in 11 years time: 200 years since the British abolished slavery.

It's their job. They go where they are told to go. I doubt they get much choice, to be honest, and probably don't particularly enjoy it either. I wouldn't.

Yammy Wed 23-Mar-22 17:45:19

Probably couldn't or didn't want to hear through the water.
Wealth, influence and power make you deaf.

Jody1234 Wed 23-Mar-22 16:57:24

Fed up of seeing them and the cost! They just seem oblivious to how they will be received and carry on regardless.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 23-Mar-22 16:43:55

I appreciate that it is the Queens jubilee but it does all seem a tad in poor taste giving what is happening to the world.

The Queen is grown up I’m sure she would understand, that shuttling back on the jollies is a much better look.
