Are you surprised Parsley3? Boris isn't exactly a prince among men.

Not at all surprised but very annoyed. We have a PM who can’t criticise another’s behaviour because of his pot-kettle-black reputation. It makes a mockery of common decency.

Anniebach Thu 31-Mar-22 15:06:49

It was very close in 2019, I telephone canvassed, kept hearing
‘For Corbyn ? No’ , will not repeat other comments.

Callistemon21 Thu 31-Mar-22 14:57:20

Oh no, she's younger than me, a spring chicken!

Callistemon21 Thu 31-Mar-22 14:56:37

I didn't realise she's in her seventies.

Casdon Thu 31-Mar-22 14:54:29

I doubt she will run again as she’s in her seventies now Callistemon21 but if I remember rightly it was a pretty close seat in 2019. Definitely one to watch next time.

Callistemon21 Thu 31-Mar-22 14:46:31

Anniebach

He will not stand for Bridgend ,he only won that seat because
of Corbyn

A pity that the Labour candidate and former MP Madeleine Moon lost the seat - she wasn't pro-Corbyn either.

Urmstongran Thu 31-Mar-22 13:28:31

Doodledog

Hasn’t he come out as trans in mitigation against a charge of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident?

This MP sounds quite a dodgy character. I didn’t know about his Sugar Daddy sideline either. I hope he doesn’t stand for e-election or if he does, that his constituents don’t vote for him!

Casdon Thu 31-Mar-22 13:22:45

Bridgend is historically usually a Labour seat, and the Senedd member is Labour currently. I doubt very much that a Tory candidate, whoever it was will get in there at the next general election - as anniebach said it was the anti Corbyn vote last time.

Rosie51 Thu 31-Mar-22 13:13:48

Certainly, it'll be very hard for their family. But trans doesn't have to mean the end of a marriage. Grayson Perry is a good example. His wife accepts him as he is.

As you've now acknowledged Grayson Perry is not trans, and it would seem his wife is happy with his cross dressing.

A better example would be Debbie Hayton whose family is still intact. Of course she's disliked by many TRAs because she knows she's male, stands up for men out of women's sports, and her children still call her dad, which she's proud to be.

For many women whose husbands decide to become transwomen they become transwidows and are very unhappy with the situation. They need far more support than they get for a situation not of their making or wish.

Callistemon21 Thu 31-Mar-22 12:58:13

He just doesn't seem suitable to be an MP
Which is a pity because he's a very clever person.

Unfortunately, the more that comes out, the more sordid his business dealings appear to be and, of course, he will not be deselected because that could be construed as being transphobic.

If he loses at the next GE then his constituents will be accused of transphobia.

GagaJo Thu 31-Mar-22 12:58:08

No, of course, he's a transvestite! My apologies. I think I knew that?

Parsley3 Thu 31-Mar-22 12:57:13

Are candidates no longer vetted before they are accepted as potential MPs? The backstory to this fellow’s revelation is extraordinarily seedy and yet people are saying how brave he is and well done the PM for supporting him. Has the nation’s collective consciousness been so brainwashed that the reality of a situation can be simply glossed over in favour of some mindless cheerleading?

PamelaJ1 Thu 31-Mar-22 12:48:11

GagaJo
Grayson Perry isn’t trans.

JaneJudge Thu 31-Mar-22 12:45:44

I thought Grayson Perry didn't identify as transgender, more he likes to cross dress as his alter ego - whose name escapes me.

GagaJo Thu 31-Mar-22 12:30:46

Certainly, it'll be very hard for their family. But trans doesn't have to mean the end of a marriage. Grayson Perry is a good example. His wife accepts him as he is.

They were raped and then blackmailed. And has to deal with the trauma of being trans. I pity them.

Yes, his business dealings seem to be dodgy. But as I said above, our PM is no great moral example.

JaneJudge Thu 31-Mar-22 12:28:53

It doesn't sound like he likes women very much at all confused

Rosalyn69 Thu 31-Mar-22 12:23:53

I am tired of the whole trans “thing”. Why do people want to have a label attached? Can’t they just “be”. I am not anti trans or anti any other group but goodness everywhere I read now the big “thing” is trans. Slow news week perhaps.
Just my view.

BeverleyJB Thu 31-Mar-22 12:15:47

I'll reserve my sympathy for his poor wife and children. Nothing he has done is in any way “brave” and those who support such an individual, who clearly has no integrity, should have a good look at themselves.

MerylStreep Thu 31-Mar-22 11:59:52

I have to say I was very surprised yesterday at some of the praise heaped on him.
I looked at his past when the news broke.

GagaJo Thu 31-Mar-22 11:21:28

Agreed DiamondLily. And even when we do get the chance of a solid, dependable leader, he's destroyed by the media.

All aside from his trans status as others have said. In the same way I'm disgusted by Boris but wish him no actual harm.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 31-Mar-22 11:11:41

The more one finds out the more sordid it becomes…

DiamondLily Thu 31-Mar-22 10:38:39

GagaJo

Not at all DL. He's following in his illustrious leaders footsteps.

It doesn't make it right though. Nothing to do with whether he wants to change gender or not.

He just doesn't seem suitable to be an MP.

Johnson is a disgrace to his profession , but people keep supporting him for some reason. ?

Higher standards, from all MPs, would be nice,

GagaJo Thu 31-Mar-22 10:33:35

Not at all DL. He's following in his illustrious leaders footsteps.

DiamondLily Thu 31-Mar-22 10:28:49

He was previously thrown of his town council for being inherently lazy and unreliable.

With all these things, business wise, the Sugar Daddy thing, and with his personal life, I'm amazed he was picked as a Tory MP to start with.
