I know UK firms who did have dealings with Gazprom and Russian banks have suspended operations.

Seems to me Germany and Italy if they agree to this are financing Putin's war against Ukraine. Trump said the pipeline was a mistake seems he was right.

This is one of many articles claiming the majority of Russians support Putin.

I think Putin is cutting Russia’s nose off to spite its face by doing this, because countries are already looking elsewhere for their gas, and finding alternatives. In the medium term there will be no demand, and Russia will have lost a lucrative market. I feel sorry for the ordinary people of Russia who will be suffering the consequences in the future.

On a serious note. Newspapers and online news sites want to generate clicks. If a headline says that gas has to be paid for in Roubles, that's the bit people remember. If you have to read the article to get to the complicated bit, as Chestnut has copied above, fewer people are going to get there. But we all remember the scary headline.

It worries me, really it does. It worries me how people are being manipulated. Sorry.

The BBC (hope that's acceptable to volver) says the EU gets 40% of its gas and 30% of its oil from Russia.

Don't believe everything you read in the Daily Mail. Even if its in a nice colourful map.

The BBL pipeline exports gas between the UK and the Netherlands.

So if they're accepting euros then what is the fuss about? I've lost the plot.

We imported less that 4% from Russia last year.

Hang on Casden. I know Europe has a much higher percentage from Russia but we have some of our gas from them.

Just to clarify, this is from the UK Government website:

We meet around half of our annual gas supply through domestic production and the vast majority of imports come from reliable suppliers such as Norway. It’s not our gas supply Chestnut. There’s no direct link between the UK and Russia. It will seriously affect Europe though.
