Another fine, upstanding Tory. David Warburton has been suspended. Cocaine, sexual abuse. Russian money. Just out in The Times. Jo Maugham has the story on Twitter.

varian Mon 04-Apr-22 20:15:51

Warburton's involvement with dodgy Russian money seems to date back several years.

Monica, he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman whilst she was asleep. I don't care which party he belongs to

M0nica Mon 04-Apr-22 20:05:43

Depends how recently the behaviour was. i must confess that I haven't studied this case particularly.

I just notice when an MP in trouble belongs to a party the poster doesn't support, the response is always nasty. while if it is an MP of their own party, they are all solicitude and care.

BlueBelle Mon 04-Apr-22 18:09:57

No one does Monica but strange it hasn’t come to light before isn’t it ?

Katie59 Mon 04-Apr-22 18:00:00

Faking mental health problems is a way of avoiding responsibility, either way he is not going to be involved in public office again, will it make any difference to any sex abuse allegation?, that will be investigated surely.

JaneJudge Mon 04-Apr-22 16:33:06

We don't but people with addiction problems are still charged with the crimes they committed whether they were under the influence or not. Substance addiction is a cause not an excuse.

M0nica Mon 04-Apr-22 16:27:49

How do you know that this MP isn't genuinely mentally ill?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Apr-22 10:52:15

Those with genuine mental health issue deserve empathy and support, particularly as it is so very very difficult to get help.

Being accused of sexual and drug related crimes, will of course cause distress and quite severe anxiety I would have thought. Time to put on those big boys pants and face up to your behaviour.

M0nica Mon 04-Apr-22 10:42:40

Mental illness, crazy behavior, it’s what happens when you think you are unaccountable,

No. many, many ordinary people suffer from mental illness and behave in peculiar fashion. I am sure all of us have such people somewhere in our lives.

Coastpath Mon 04-Apr-22 10:11:49

The 'enormous amounts of defence' line so reminds me of Donald Trump.

BlueBelle Mon 04-Apr-22 09:13:28

You could add Putin to your list varian

varian Mon 04-Apr-22 08:49:48

Owen Paterson , Boris Johnson, Prince Andrew, David Warburton - all believe in their own innocence, so we are told.

varian Mon 04-Apr-22 08:46:52

David Warburton says he has "enormous amounts of defense" and doesn't believe he has done anything wrong.

Katie59 Mon 04-Apr-22 08:43:27

Mental illness, crazy behavior, it’s what happens when you think you are unaccountable, parallel with Prince Andrew, exactly the same stupid behavior by someone who knows better.

BlueBelle Mon 04-Apr-22 08:28:50

So why has the mental health only occurred now ?
He didn’t appear to have mental health problems prior to being caught or did he ? I m happy to be corrected

PECS Mon 04-Apr-22 08:26:59

I have a relative who was sectioned under the Mental Health Act for their own safety. They had been behaving out of character ( they were usually kind, family oriented, generous, and hugely popular) & ended up commiting a fraud, sleeping rough and involved with a very 'dodgy' female and suicidal. A total mental breakdown & a subsequent diagnosis of bi-polar disorder did not prevent them serving a prison sentence for the fraud.
On reflection I could see previous patterns of bi-polar behaviour... but they had been easy to dismiss as usual ups & downs of a stressful job/ coping with life crises etc.

It does happen and it can accelerate quickly.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Apr-22 08:12:21

Many people when caught out have claimed ill health of some sort including poor mental health. We can all name them.

A healthy degree of scepticism is rational when giving consideration for these claims

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Apr-22 08:06:08

If he checked in because of drug addiction they will have accepted him.

M0nica Mon 04-Apr-22 07:58:49

varian. What a nasty thing to say! I doubt that even private mental facilities take people in who are not ill, and it is quite possible that his behaviour results from his mental state. This sort of thing happens to quite ordinary people, a period of out of character behaviour preceds or is part of a mental breakdown.

PECS Mon 04-Apr-22 07:55:10

varian a country far away cannot influence the political world of another country unless there are systems & people who enable it to happen.

varian Mon 04-Apr-22 00:07:08

Now he is claiming to be mentally ill. He has obviously run out of other excuses

varian Mon 04-Apr-22 00:05:00

More and more sleaze allegation against Warburton as he secured a lucrative part time job for a relative with the company of the dodgy Russian.

JaneJudge

People have choices. You can't blame a country far, far away

We can blame a country far away (Russia) for interfering in British politics. Brexit was a triumph for Putin who gloated about weakening the EU and the UK ,and the election of this brexit-supporter with a suspiciously high vote in this constituency in 2015 and 2019 may have been helped by dodgy Russian money.

GillT57 Sun 03-Apr-22 11:47:15

You can't be caught if you don't do it.
