Is this sort of behaviour from Tory MPs just par for the course these days?

Perhaps he is going for the old "I admit I have an addiction problem and am seeking help for it" ploy.

Iam64 Sun 03-Apr-22 20:44:26

It’s unlikely he’s been made the subject of a Section under the mental health act. Much more likely he’s in a private hospital. I’m with urmstongran and others on this. Accessing mh services even when suicidal, never mind feeling stressed, is extraordinarily difficult.
His wife works in his office. It seems to me they’re getting their defence in place. Blaming the Russians or some other power for stitching him up.

He seems to have found it easy to do that without the aid of any foreign power.

I’m a Labour voter but I’m entirely equal opportunities when it comes to public servants behaving badly, they face the consequences, just like we do in our work and private lives

Jody1234 Sun 03-Apr-22 20:33:46

He's been admitted to hospital.

Curlywhirly Sun 03-Apr-22 20:21:40

Just why would anyone (especially someone well known) pose for a photo sitting next to lines of coke? And if it wasn't really coke, they must have known that it could be mistaken for it. What on earth was he thinking?

foxie48 Sun 03-Apr-22 18:07:25

I feel very sorry for his family. I think there's more to this story than we know.

Urmstongran Sun 03-Apr-22 17:53:00

Must be nice to have money and access to private health care on demand.
The rest of us have no such luxury. We have to lump it.

If he is well enough to contact friends to tell them he’s in hospital with ‘severe shock and stress’ as the press are reporting I can’t imagine he has been admitted to an NHS psychiatric unit. The admission threshold is very high, only the most serious cases are admitted to a bed.

His wife, who is his Press Secretary I think, issued a press release.

Let's not be too silly about this.

It might also pay to remember there are mental health conditions where inapropriate behaviour is a symptom of the illness. He may be all that has been said about him or he may be ill. Perhaps now is the time to stand back and wait to see.

If you bothered to read my previous post and the Daily Mail extract I posted you would see I wasn't. Seems some posters like to twist posts to suit their own agenda.

Casdon Sun 03-Apr-22 17:30:57

No, only when people make outrageous statements like that Maudi.

Maudi Sun 03-Apr-22 17:28:21

You're easily shocked then it seems.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty. Yes I think all parties should be named or preferably none of them until they are proved guilty or not. It is unfair and this has happened before (not saying this is the case now) that women have shouted rape, ruined a mans life because he has been named and then you find out she made it up. Would you like your son to be accused and named when he is innocent and his life ruined.

Maudi what you said in your original post was

‘Also I have always thought in rape cases or sexual assault cases, all parties should be named not just the man.’

You didn’t answer me when I asked you if you would want your name in the press if you were raped, instead you have changed your tack completely to say that men should not be falsely accused. I never said they should, I said accusers’ names should not appear. I remain shocked at your original statement.

Not forgetting the innocent icing sugar being accused of being cocaine.

Maudi
You're trying to hard to defend the indefensible.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 03-Apr-22 16:32:20

He will have checked into one of the private hospitals, like The Priory.

They assist with drug addiction.

you cannot even get phone counselling at the moment unless you are suicidal. You have to ring 111 instead to talk to someone!

No I appreciate the one with the lines of cocaine wasn’t a selfie Zoe.
He’s lost 6sts (or more) and is a bit of a poseur in my opinion.
I bet there’s loads of selfies out there.

Bet he regrets them all now.
They do say pride comes before a fall ....

Callistemon21 Sun 03-Apr-22 16:17:30

This man looks a prize chump

Oh yes, a chump
hmm
Rather an understatement

JaneJudge Sun 03-Apr-22 16:16:26

Lots of supermarkets for example, will sack employees who behave against their of conduct outside of work whilst wearing their uniform.

JaneJudge Sun 03-Apr-22 16:15:21

Lots of people in very normal public facing jobs have to behave properly and morally in public and socially. It really isn't that unusual

Galaxy Sun 03-Apr-22 16:14:12

Lots of people have managed to be politicians without succumbing to the dreadful pressure of the Russians or social media forcing them to harrass women.

Zoejory Sun 03-Apr-22 16:11:12

Urmstongran

He’s a liability.
To himself. His family. His constituents.
This is unravelling in a way he never imagined when he took that selfie.

It wasn't a selfie, Urmstongran

Zoejory Sun 03-Apr-22 16:10:19

I do wonder who on earth would choose to be a politician these days. Especially Conservatives. There is so much hate.

This man looks a prize chump but he is human. Humans can be idiots.

I'm not a Tory but all this viciousness on social media is dreadful. Jeremy Corbyn, who was not the best leader, suffered so much abuse as well. All MPs are fodder. As are public figures and woe betide you if you say something even slightly to the right.

Families get dragged in and I have no idea how they cope.

Brilliant documentary released a couple of years go. The Social Dilemma. Worth a watch.

The film highlights the concerns of former tech employees who say social media is undermining the shared sense of reality that underpins society. "The Social Dilemma" asks viewers to re-evaluate their relationship with technology and argues that social media is eroding democracy.

JaneJudge Sun 03-Apr-22 16:03:44

at least we know why he has lost so much weight
