Are the Royal Family losing their touch?

A couple of weeks ago we had the disastrous PR associated with the Caribbean tour, and now the judgement of the Queen is being questioned, for giving Prince Andrew such a prominent role in the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service.

The position of the Royal Family depends very strongly on their acceptance by, and the support of, the public both here and overseas; are they losing that?

Yes, I think you’re right there Franbern.

I admire the stamina of some of the grans on here; caring for parents, partners and adult children.
That's my idea of hard work.

nadateturbe Sun 10-Apr-22 15:30:16

Think Franbern is right.

775 rooms at Buckingham Palace but they want
another home but this time let grannie or papa fork out some of their private wealth not one penny of taxpayers money should go to them for anything not whilst the government of the elite is callously ignoring its own people.

It's time to reassess the money paid to Charles & Elizabeth for their personal use (currently over £20 million to Charles, over £22 million to Elizabeth). If they can pay for a fourth mansion for William, then they're being paid too much.

I'm sorry, I googled this because I didn't know waht Grany was referring to. Some quotes from this article:

"Prince William and Kate Middleton set to make huge change for ‘quiet family life’."

"All Catherine ever wanted was a house in the countryside, loads of kids, dogs and an AGA. She wasn’t interested in having a big job or becoming famous."

Anyone got any ideas how they could achieve that? ??‍♀️

So the whole see through dress stunt at college ( like his mothers see through dress photo op) wasn't really meant to get his attention..it was purely coincidence....as my granny would have said".And the band played believe it ..if you like "It was part of her or her mothers master plan, that was the whole reason she changed her uni to St Andrews.
I'm sure there were lots of rich young men there who weren't royal that she could have snared

I think this whole "Royalty" business is old-fashioned and out of date. Time we got rid of the lot of them.

One of the reasons for keeping a Sovereignty is to set limits on Parliament & to prevent Parliament from having direct control over the Police & the Courts .

The opposite is true monarchy gives the government PM too much power. All the queen does is what the PM asks her remember prorogued parliament? With a monarchy it's like having a football match with no referee nonchecks and balances on government

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 18:20:48

Shall we say they are like a set of scales keeping the balance .

Grany Mon 11-Apr-22 18:35:44

Keeping the balance for what? Only there for themselves in public office for private gain what do you expect from them?

Charles had Savile write speaches for him known him for 20 years.
Cash for honours access.

Same Andrew friends with Epstein Dodgy money dealing

I was thinking more about the practice, jobs , jobs jobs etc etc, it would be like shutting down a factory.

Grany Mon 11-Apr-22 18:55:41

People could work in all the new palaces castles grand homes opened up for the general public making a huge boost to our tourism

Don't worry what's theirs they keep what's ours we keep.

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 19:03:15

Really?

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 19:03:47

They already do that.

Oh not this again.

They could keep the personal servants they have, so they keep their jobs.

The people who maintain the palaces and so on could keep their jobs because the buildings could still be visited by the general public.

The soldiers who guard them can keep on being soldiers.

So who would lose their jobs, exactly?

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 19:09:56

Exactly what I said?

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 19:13:28

To be clear, it has been suggested we ‘ get rid of them’
(Getting rid of them ( what a horrible term )

If we do as you suggest , Then many many folks will loose their jobs & incomes.

Grany Mon 11-Apr-22 19:23:41

A reminder that we pay Charles £22m a year, which is six times the combined salaries of all democratically elected heads of state in Europe. And queen gets £22 million personal income for her family take the duchies back plus Sovereign Grant £85 million. Add in security and travel £345 million we through at one family.

Grany Mon 11-Apr-22 19:24:28

Throw Abolish the monarchy

volver Mon 11-Apr-22 19:31:51

No, don't think so.

It wouldn't be anything at all like closing a factory.

Question: how do you think the countries without a sovereign maintain the balance between Parliament and the courts, and the Police?

Sorry, I didn't see this until after I posted.

Any comments on my post from 19:31 about people losing their jobs?

Bridgeit Mon 11-Apr-22 19:57:02

Obviously not.

volver Mon 11-Apr-22 20:12:29

No? Quelle surprise.
