Are the Royal Family losing their touch?

A couple of weeks ago we had the disastrous PR associated with the Caribbean tour, and now the judgement of the Queen is being questioned, for giving Prince Andrew such a prominent role in the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service.

The position of the Royal Family depends very strongly on their acceptance by, and the support of, the public both here and overseas; are they losing that?

The book. Choose the book.

I read it twice as it didn't seem to me sense .....

Ah well, if any individuals want to buy it fine but I don't remember schools buying Coronation books

I don’t actually know of any street parties that have been planned to celebrate the Jubilee. But maybe that’s just me.Parsley no mates.

Wales and Scotland want school to choose if they want it as seen as too anglophile

I'm sure children in Wales will choose to go into school for those two days instead of having two extra days holiday!

It's already crossed the line. Do people care that much about royal family, what benefit is it to them? A book for children about the Queen costs several million Wales and Scotland want school to choose if they want it as seen as too anglophile

It’s funny though, we have hundreds of street parties planned for the Queen’s Jubilee in June, people are organising it themselves, and really going to town. The Welsh Government aren’t royalist, but it’s surprised me how many young families are embracing it. I’d be interested to know if it’s the same picture elsewhere?

Yes it’s a waste of money. It would be better spent in the provision of arms and charity ie medical supplies/food for Ukraine.

Bridgeit Thu 05-May-22 13:30:58

How does this amount compare to other books,? It would be interesting to have a comparison.

Do you think this is going to cross the line Grany? Such extravagance when things are so hard for so many people?

Grany Wed 04-May-22 20:48:36

Are we spending too much on the Queen's platinum jubilee?

£28 million has been set aside for the celebrations in June - but critics say that's a waste.

It’s a once in a lifetime occasion - so surely Her Majesty deserves it?

#JeremyVine

Outrageous waste of money when people can’t afford to hear their homes.

Prince Andrew on collision course with William and Kate over new mansion for Eugenie

Royal sense of entitlement is breath taking. Why do any of them think they're owed a grace and favour home paid for by the taxpayer?

NEW POLL: More than one in four Brits (27%) now support abolishing the monarchy. Support for retaining the monarchy stands at just 60%, well below the 70-75% previously reported from across the polling industry over the last ten years.

Gosh, the Marines must be desperate to have somebody to visit young marines in training and attend ceremonial events. They've had to do without it for 2 years. How did they manage???

I bet Princess Anne would have made a first-class Marine Commando!

Grany Mon 02-May-22 12:13:27

The Queen and “Prince” Charles are a huge part of the problem. Without removing the monarchy we will struggle to get land reform or modern property laws. anti-leasehold campaigners.

The monarchy blocks reform in many areas, including this.

Elizabeth & Charles both benefit personally from millions/year in income from state-owned leasehold property in the duchies of Lancaster & Cornwall.

Royals and Russians.

Princess Anne is expected to replace Prince Harry as head of Royal Marines - becoming the first female to fill role

Utterly preposterous appointment if true. As preposterous as the last one and those before it.
