Are the Royal Family losing their touch?

A couple of weeks ago we had the disastrous PR associated with the Caribbean tour, and now the judgement of the Queen is being questioned, for giving Prince Andrew such a prominent role in the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service.

The position of the Royal Family depends very strongly on their acceptance by, and the support of, the public both here and overseas; are they losing that?

The Cambridges have been having a break from public duties after their Caribbean tour as their children enjoy their Easter holidays. But William does now have one engagement announced. He will attend the London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala on Monday April 25.

Surely their engagements are when they take a break from their lives of leisure. Two weeks since their disaster tour and another two weeks before he goes to a gala.

John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) was the first to publicly expose Savile, and he was effectively banned from the BBC as a result.

Bridgeit hmm..A lot of people were very wary of JS once rumours & evidence began to surface. I believe Private Eye Magazine were not fooled!

What a hilarious picture. The Royal Family all bobbing up and down curtsying in order of rank (and farting). Do you think they play a fanfare?

Bridgeit Thu 07-Apr-22 14:08:57

To be fair a whole generation of people were taken in by JS.
What that saying ? Hiding in clear sight !

Urmstongran Thu 07-Apr-22 13:57:45

No disrespect to Attenborough but being a friend to the RF is hardly a badge of honour! Andrew was great friends with Epstein and Charles was great friends with Savile and Peter Ball..until they weren’t.

No one can accuse the Royal family of being intellectually astute or actually having much common sense between them where their ‘friends’ are concerned.

Bridgeit Thu 07-Apr-22 13:50:42

JS fooled Everyone

Charles was key to Savile's standing. That Savile had become a valued friend of the famous and the powerful — such as the Prince of Wales and Margaret Thatcher, who reportedly pushed for a knighthood for him and with whom he was invited to spend Christmas at Chequers — was not down to chance.

agree Allsorts and Maddyone

The Royals don't pay they have lots of free time so spend public money day in day out on their own private interests.

Kate and William loved their time there so much they will bring their children next time. hmm

maddyone Wed 06-Apr-22 13:10:36

I do find it difficult to process the obscene amounts of money some people pay for luxury whilst others live in abject poverty.

Allsorts Wed 06-Apr-22 12:42:59

How can anywhere cost 19k a night. It is disgustingly obscene, just think what that money could have done for the homeless any worthwhile cause people can’t afford roofs over their heads or food and heat. No one’s worked that hard to accumulate that much wealth to do that, it’s down to enterprise, luck and ability, others work just as hard. Andrew lives that life but free loads of people so rich they seem not to mind, so they are not that clever.

Does it matter?

Anniebach Wed 06-Apr-22 12:28:35

Did they pay or were they guests

JaneJudge Wed 06-Apr-22 12:23:11

the average annual wage that is
it's absolutely vulgar that we still sub them

JaneJudge Wed 06-Apr-22 12:22:19

so for a 2 night mini break they paid £6,228 more than the average wage in the UK?

Caleo Wed 06-Apr-22 12:16:01

If it was "family stuff" (Urmstongran) the Windsor family would have held it in the chapel at Windsor Castle not in a property of the Church of England.
