Once again the government is showing that it knows the price of everything but the value of absolutely nothing.

Who, I wonder amongst their donors, have they promised the channel to?

What is it about the Tory party and those on the right wing who whilst professing to be 'patriots' seek to criticise and tear down all the time-honoured, people-serving, egalitarian institutions that make this country what it is...the NHS, The BBC, The National Trust and Channel 4 for starters.

Everything has to be owned and controlled by Tory 'friends'. If this continues to happen what will we be?

A nationalist authoritarian country.

Why it's important to have a properly free press.

How bad is it when a member of the bbc hierarchy agrees with the government.
This article is written by John Mair ( question time founder) not a hatchet job by a Daily Mail journalist.

He's not a member of the BBC hierarchy, he's an academic.

Must try harder.

Naturally the government wish to rid themselves of channel 4 when you hear the brilliant journalism from the likes of Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Matt Frei, Cathy Newman and Fatima Manji.

Please leave channel 4 alone, it costs the tax payer nothing

You don't know what you've got 'till.it's gone.?

Good luck with better health when it is privatised then.

It is easy for governments to undermine established systems so that they can better control them by ensuring those running media / communicaton companies & outlets are all on message & in line with government thinking.
It is how Russia has convinced a large section of the population that Ukraine is bombing itself and reported atrocities is all " fake" news.

It creeps in and we all think we will see it and not be sucked in. But we are already.

It has happened to the National Health Service, state education and some access to legal representation and other public services that the current ruling party would prefer to do away with. We have been sold privatisation as the panacea, a route to better services and lifestyle...

The BBC should be a subscription service.

Julian Knight is a Conservative MP.

Yes I know but he is asking the question, not stating a fact, for which he will never get an answer.

He is right of course, as Dorries suggested just that back in the autumn. She will be having a go at the BBC next.

DCMS select committee chair Julian Knight has questioned if the government’s plans to forge forward with the privatisation of Channel 4 are “revenge”, adding that many Tories believe the move is “payback time” for “biased coverage”.

If this is true, and they will never admit it then they have more in common with Putin and the likes of Ordan than I find comfortable.

Judging by some reactions to this news a number of posters would feel very comfortable in a Putin or Orban led regime.

The thing I can’t get my head around is that Dorries is theMinister for Culture, which I understand as the remit for promotion of, encouragement and support of all things cultural.

Perhaps she doesn’t understand what culture means. She doesn’t seem to understand much else.

Is that a Daily Mail article we are expected to believe?
One never knows on GN.

Another kick on the shins for us Jo & Joe Public.
Watch closely & see who benefits from this...( hint it is unlikely to be the viewers!)

C4 make a profit and plough it into making lots of new programming using British production companies. So it’s good for our U.K. arts sector. Will a foreign (probably US) buyer do the same? Answer: no.

Looks like ITV are considering putting in an offer for it:

Son just gave his notice to Channel 4 as have so many of his loyal hard working colleagues.

Grantanow Tue 05-Apr-22 23:08:57

Of course, Dorris was chosen by Johnson. Nothing to add....

Mamardoit Tue 05-Apr-22 22:33:01

Did channel 4 do Time Team? I used to watch that with my younger boys.

I have occasionally tuned in to watch Channel 4 news. To be honest it's not a channel I watch other than that. I'm finding I really am very selective now. Particularly with news output.

Yeah right
