Death spiral of the Tory Party

Not my words but senior Tories.

They fear that with the Sunak and Johnson debacle that both have lost complete respect from the voting public.

They worry that this is symptomatic of a political party in decline.

Well, we shall see. But I do believe that this country desperately needs a fresh start and new ideas, with a government of integrity and competence.

The Tories have been in power since 2010 - if they're so concerned about women why have they allowed mixed-sex wards, male-bodied people in women's prisons, harassment of academics, threats to women's competitive sport, etc.

That said, it is toe-curlingly awful to hear Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves, Lisa Nandy and others getting into such a tizz and almost in tears rather than say a woman does not have a penis.

Labour will lose votes on this.

Kandinsky Sun 10-Apr-22 18:58:53

Well yes, general election 2 years away isn’t it?
A lot will happen between now & then!

Casdon Sun 10-Apr-22 18:52:43

Well time will tell I guess, but I really don’t believe it has anywhere near the profile of other current day issues for younger people either. They are far more interested in Ukraine, the cost of living, the environment and probity in government - for whatever reasons Labour may fail at the next election it isn’t going to be trans issues, it really isn’t, whatever the loudest voices on Mumsnet and Gransnet say.

GillT57 Sun 10-Apr-22 18:51:03

I agree that it will cost Labour and it saddens me.

Kandinsky Sun 10-Apr-22 18:45:52

Well these are younger women who are fearful for their future.
With the greatest respect, I doubt the trans issue is high on the agenda of your average 75 year old, which is why it’s pretty pointless talking about it on here.
But it is a massive issue with younger women & it will cost Labour, not that they seem to care tbh.

*Nearly all of them are switching to the conservatives over the trans issue.*

Seems very narrow to vote for a party based on one issue and without a wider regard to policies, ethics, performance and manifestos.

The Tories have listened to their researchers who presumably read mumsnet and have jumped on.the bandwagon. It is deplorable that voters, especially women, are prepared to throw the elderly, infirm, poor, disadvantaged, working families etc. under a bus because of their anger at how other parties are unable to agree on the definition of woman.

Casdon Sun 10-Apr-22 18:40:33

Kandinsky. People who contribute to trans issues threads on Mumsnet or on Gransnet are not representative of the UK voting public, they are a self selecting group.

In spite of the overwhelming evidence of incompetence and corruption, the Tory party will not die as long as people still read The Daily Mail, The Express, The Telegraph and The Sun and vote as instructed.

We can all see the evidence on Gransnet.

Kandinsky Sun 10-Apr-22 18:17:13

No I’m not.
And if I were you I’d take a look over on mumsnet and see what they have to say on this issue.
Mumsnet is far busier ( & far more influential ) than this site, and has an extremely active feminist section.
Nearly all of them are switching to the conservatives over the trans issue.
They feel Labour have have completely let them down & will no longer vote for them.

*Which is, of course, far and away the most important problem facing the country/world at the moment*

Yes actually, it probably is.

You are joking. Please tell me you’re joking….

I’ll still vote Tory because they’re the only party talking any sense over the trans issues.

Which is, of course, far and away the most important problem facing the country/world at the moment confused

Perhaps not the most important issue MayBee but yes, it’s very important and it feels good for the silent majority to have leadership on the issue as it infiltrates many areas of our lives - single sex wards in our hospitals, a level playing field in sports etc.

Do you actually think the minority care less?

I can’t be bothered Lucca. It’s old ground. But Google is your friend if you want to look them up.

You never ever answer the question. You should be in politics,

Callistemon21 Sun 10-Apr-22 18:01:02

Not being a Tory voter I've never had the Fascist slur thrown at me before. Interesting.

I can understand why posters who might advocate stronger sentences for heinous crimes or are in favour of recruiting more police to help prevent knife crime, as I justdid, are shocked when they are accused of fascism on these threads.

I’m sure your imagining things ?

Callistemon21 That was not directed at you, I agree with most of what you have said.

Yes, I realise toscalily

And it's not at all what I said, toscalily as you can see ?

A deliberate misinterpretation possibly I think.

Headbanging *LauraNorderr? ???
Yes, I may need to

^If you're are against this, you must be happy that someone who tortures and murders their child or laughs while a partner does so, or abducts, rapes and murders a woman from the streets should only get a relatively lenient sentence, halved for "good behaviour" then?^

Its almost worth reporting.

If I was that way inclined.

Volver: Is that a threat? shut down yet another discussion because you can't get every one to agree with you. Isn't that what dictators do, extinguish the opposition?

LauraNorderr Sun 10-Apr-22 17:22:13

I can’t abide Katy Hopkins but if you say so.
Equivalent to the constant repetition on here from the school of belligerent, bitter, biased bull***t of James OBrien or the twitterati often quoted.
I’ve had a lovely day dancing in my kitchen to sixties music thanks to Alexa, a nice walk along the beach in the sunshine, marvelling at snow in April on the mountains of Snowdonia and then to this thread from happy to snappy to crappy so I’m off back to happy. Crack on all. Good luck Call, perhaps ask Alexa for some head banging music.

Callistemon21 Sun 10-Apr-22 16:36:22

If I was in the least paranoid I would think this was a vendetta as it happens daily now.

hmm

So you agree they should receive tougher sentences then??
Even though that is a fascist view?

I confused now.

Please try reading it all again when you're calmer and you will see you have misread it.
