Brilliant but chilling post OakDryad.
How did you vote and why today
Has anyone else done anything as daft as this?
Johnson and Sunak to be served fixed penalty notices. Will he still maintain he didn't break the law?
Brilliant but chilling post OakDryad.
The problem is the Government put the rules in place and they then broke them to suit themselves. Whatever other people did is not relevant. The Government should set an example.
Quite simple really. they set the agenda and then went on to do what they liked.
Far as I can read Boris won't get a criminal record for his FPN.
I was surprised he paid it ... if the birthday cake was a surprise in an otherwise official meeting it sounds like 'entrapment' and a good barrister could have defended him. Putting it in perspective, if a tealady had wheeled in the afternoon refreshments would the police have issued a fine?

Anybody who keeps saying it wasn't a party, or some such excuse.
*What did he get fined for then?*I wondered this one too from the event I have seen described in press releases it certainly didn’t sound much of a party to me
If it was people he already worked daily with what was the fine all aboutSo are you suggesting that the Police were wrong to fine him?
You don't get fined for a "party", you get fined for an indoor gathering that was against the laws in place.
And even if you are working in the same building as other people all day, you don't have to mix with them. You don't have to all crowd into the same room and rub shoulders with each other. You don't have to bring the Missus.
He and Sunak have been fined for breaking the law. That's it.
I didn’t say the police were wrong to fine him but there must be more to the event than as described to receive a fine.
I don’t actually think he brought his Missus as you say I suspect she instigated the event but not really that strange as she lives there.
Breaking the rules when you made them and expected everyone else to keep them is unforgivable.
I don’t understand people saying it wasn’t that important and it’s imperative we keep him as PM because of the warin Ukraine is rubbish. The French are currently going to the polls. What’s the difference?
How did we get here, volver?
By the majority of the electorate being told what they wanted to hear by a man who said whatever was necessary to get him into the highest political office, aided and abetted by the right-wing media printing his lies without fact-checking. Both the EU referendum campaign and the 2019 general election campaign were an onslaught of deliberate lies, more deliberate lies and even more deliberate lies.
This current crisis will seem like small fry to him. He has been allowed to get way with so much in the past he thinks he's invincible. Why should this be any different?
Ask the man in the street if he likes being lied to and you'd expect him to say no. So why accept it from Johnson and his party?
This forum often has threads warning people about scams. Johnson is the biggest scammer of all and yet Tory voters lap up his dishonesty again and again. You have to ask yourself why?
He knows he is on a good thing with this job as none of his conservatives will even try to remove him from office. Should really be automatically fired for breaking rules and then blatantly lying about it. He does not care about the people that list loved ones and were unable to grieve properly. Hopefully wrong about the conservatives and they will remove him sooner than later. Until last election I had always voted conservative but did not want to vote for him last time due to his continuous lying in the past which continues now.

Nope, I didn't break any rules.
I didn't set the rules.
You are talking nonsense
Starmer didn't go to the pub during lockdown.
Can't read the rest without taking a breath.
what about the labour leader who was in a pub on lock down
He wasn’t.
Sorry but I’m struggling to understand the rest of your post.
Totally unforgiveable, we have all been taken for a ride, big time! of course they should resign, but it isnt the correct time, with whats happening in Ukraine,We shall not forget, when the war is over.

I am anticipating more fines for more of the parties, it strikes me that the one they have been fined for so far, was the more 'minor' of the many events, not that it is an excuse. I am concerned about the one the night before the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral, when the Queen had refused the offered special dispensation to bend the rules, the one where they wheeled out the decks and danced the night away in No10. So, for all you apologists; not just an accidental slice of birthday cake, a planned, organised knees up. Then there are the 'business meetings' in the garden with the laptops cunningly disguised as wine bottles, and that well known civil servant, Mrs Johnson present.

All i am saying i bet everyone broke a rule even if it was not keeping 2 metres apart or seeing family we should let it
drop there are far more relevant pressing issues
What can be more pressing than getting rid of a PM who has lied, lied and lied again? And will keep lying?

But not "everyone" was supposed to be running the country.
And I never broke a single rule, so don't tar me with your brush. I didn't see my parents for 8 months, and they are in their eighties.
I can't see what's more relevant than having a lying cheat as PM?
It seems to escape notice that it is up to Parliament to judge whether Johnson misled them. He claims he was unaware it was a breach. We will have to see what develops after the Easter Recess. That aside (and its a big aside, I know!), we do have a matter of far more importance to consider and that is of course the war in Ukraine. I cannot see anyone else who could take over from our PM, discredited as he may be. Sunak’s out of course! Sajit David? Liz Truss? Michael Gove? Hardly leadership dynamics! None of them ticks my box! The situation in Ukraine is too fragile to jeopardise. Any blip in the western coalition, in NATO is just what Putin hopes for. We are Ukraines’s staunchest ally in the supply of munitions. Zelensky trusts Johnson. Instability in the UK government (Putin’s No 1 enemy) would be manna from heaven for his evil regime. Breaching Covid rules ( no matter what you think of them) is a serious matter with a fine which, though shaming, does not criminalise you. I think the threat of World War III is much, much more serious. I believe personally that Johnson should stay…for now…as the far lesser of the two evils.
Oh, did he lie again? Surprise, surprise. He'll get away with it, because there is nobody else better to step into the job of PM. I'm pretty sure the visit to Kiev and the "family outing" to the Dinosaur park were both timed to lift his popularity ratings in advance of the fine announcement.
As for Sunak, he'll be off to the USA soon to oversee the asset stripping of our NHS prior to selling it all off to the Yanks.

Every single one of the cabinet needs to go unless they stand up and remove the worst leader in history. He didn't get us through the pandemic, science and NHS did, he is not a world leader, Ukraine need our help not through Johnson but through aid, and our citizens deserve better than this
I don't understand why people don't care that we've got a liar and cheat in charge of the country. Even if he had done well with Ukraine and all the other things that are held up in his defence - how far would he have to go to have some people say they don't support him any more?
He broke the law. It doesn't matter if other people did as well, he broke the law. So did Sunak. And it was a law we were told was in place to stop people dying, so the "only like a parking fine" defence doesn't hold up. Then they both lied about it to us and to Parliament.
Its the first time a sitting PM has been found guilty of breaking the law. He has done things that other PMs have resigned for without even trying to wriggle out of it. And yet the defence of "there's nobody else" still gets repeated and repeated.
I have no time for Gove, or Truss or any of the rest of them, but the man in post at the moment is not a fit person to hold the post. That's not my thoughts, its the rules of Parliament which he is just ignoring. How did we get here?
How do we know whether Starmer has lied or not? I saw the photo of him but it was grainy and I don’t know whether it was a ‘party’ or ‘after work drinks’ because I wasn’t there. I wasn’t present at a BJ’s ‘party’ either. I don’t care about either of them, they were in their workplaces and mixing with people who they worked with every day.
He, Boris has only proved what we all knew he was. He knows what he should do but will not. There's nothing any of us can do until the next election if the Conservative party have not already done it by then.
Worldwide issues are more important than a liar who wants his cake and eat it when he had told others not to.

*Stsrmer has lied through his teeth about his beer and pizza with 20 colleagues*
No. He hasn’t,
be happy Lucca, stupid and ill informed comments like this show that the deluded ones are getting desperate. We will have a post about Corbyn attending a funeral for a terrorist soon. Fools
