Katiemay and Brownowl564 - at last the voices of reason! I couldn't agree more. These people were working together, if they had a piece of cake or a drink - so what. It certainly wasn't what I would call a party. I can't believe that so many contributors on here are up in arms about this when there is an energy crisis, cost of living crisis, the war in Ukraine etc etc to worry about. Was there a law brought in that colleagues were not to sit in their office grounds together after or during work? The real issue is the illegal lockdowns and the enforced jabs not that Boris broke a rule. The real issue is the dead in care homes and the forced jab injured and how if you went to hospital you would catch Covid- so minging are those places and so lazy the staff. I loved your comment Esspee. I don't think anyone will be going anywhere, any time soon...unless removed by force. All these guys are interested in is power (and privilege) and they will hang on till the bitter end rather than relinquish that! They couldn't care less about a few little silly rules they broke... they'll wriggle out and duck and dive to maintain their positions and I'm pretty sure J is now focusing on looking good re Ukraine because that suits him as it takes the focus off his law breaking. Sorry to say but these types don't live by the same morals as most of us but just manipulate situations to suit, so as to maintain their power.

Of course I object to the blatant disregard of rules regarding parties but I object much more to the fact that on his watch so much money was thrown at friends and business acquaintances supposedly for managing Covid, not to mention the obscene amounts of money given to already very wealthy people in the name of furlough payments. Then there is the huge amount of fraud during Covid which has been let go whilst the Universal Credit boost has been grabbed away when it is needed most. No wonder his PR machine is working overtime.

Frankly I couldn’t care less. There are more important things going on in the world. I realise this will be an unpopular view on Gransnet but there it is.

So, he had a birthday party, so what?! They were all working with each other, every day, so they knew they were probably safe with each other, not spreading Covid. Or if they were spreading it, then only with each other. These poor people who lost loved ones in care homes all alone ( except for the staff) if they had gone dashing all over the country to see their loved ones in care homes or hospitals, they would have caused mayhem and spread it all over, endangering a whole lot of other people.
I bet there are a lot of people, who had to go to work and see the same people every single day, knowing they were 'safe' had the odd party , to relieve the tension and have something different happen.
I'm fed up with 'partygate', there are far bigger and more important issues, and it seems to me, the media have got themselves in a frenzy about this and someone is trying very hard to topple the government.

My understanding is you cannot hold office with a criminal record, well they have them so it should mean they resign. No more lies. He's mortified at getting caught and not about doing it. I for one will never forgive this government, because I could not travel to say good bye to my dear sister as she lay on her death bed, whilst Boris and friends were partying. Absolute disgrace the lot if them, whilst the rest of us pay the price.

I think this particular event the Metropolitan Police have issues fines to Boris, Rishi & others for attending is the least relevant get-together which went on at Downing Street.

This definitely appears to have been a small gathering of staff, with a surprise birthday cake, which Boris unknowingly walked into.

However, it is events and ‘parties’ the police are still investigating which might be the eventual downfall of the Prime Minister.

Sunak should resign for a completely different reason than partygate.

It has been pointed out by commentators that Johnson was looking a bit less ebullient than usual yesterday and was reading from a script, presumably put together by his lawyers. If I was Sunak, I would stick it to Johnson and resign, saying that I apologised for being involved in a small birthday celebration, and that I was no longer able to remain part of this dishonest administration. Note, I am not a fan of Sunak, but I am happy to see him bring Johnson down. Grant Schapps or whatever his name is, was pathetic on R4 this morning, if it wasn't so serious it would be laughable. As for Fabricant, are there any GN members who are from his constituency? How do you feel? Proud or repelled?

I worked as a teacher for 40+ years, and volunteer in schools today : never found the after work drinks bar anywhere. Were they hiding it from me?
