Misleading parliament should mean Boris has to resign. He broke the law and held the British public in utter contempt. And he can take Rishi with him because not disclosing your wife’s interests in an overseas company actively lobbying ministers and receiving lucrative UK contracts as a result, amounts to the same thing.

This is where Johnson had played a blinder by deliberately surrounding himself with a weak cabinet. There is no natural successor, no one overtly challenging his position. And so the party are panicking and some have withdraw their letters to the 1922 Committee because they say it would be a bad idea to destabilise the UK government while the war on Ukraine continues. David Lammy has issued a very articulate rebuke to this notion citing the many times where the country had a change of leadership in times of crisis e.g. in WW1, WW2 and during the Suez crisis. Johnson isn’t the saviour of Ukraine. Heaven help us if the Tory party stoke his narcissism to make him think he is and so give him a free pass after his blatant lies to Parliament and the public.

It's not even as if we are actually at war. The defence minister seems to be quite competent and all Johnson has to do is OK the armaments to Ukraine. I'm sure someone else could do that just as well. All the parties are solid in support for Ukraine, as is most of the country, there'd be no opposition to that.

Perhaps whoever takes over could make our fascist Home Secretary waive the visa rules for the Ukranian refugees...

There is also a video of interview where Johnson says that he creates chaos around him to deliberately mislead and confuse people and the media. He admits that regular bizarre and outrageous behaviour baffles so much that eventually you can get away with anything.

Behave appallingly, irresponsibly and oddly. Make sure everyone around you does the same. Be incompetent, lie and employ incompetent liars. Eventually the media and people despair, give up and anything is possible.

I think it was a great place to take his children, I’m sure his son loved it- but JaneJudge just zoom in on the photo - both his top and trousers are filthy, it looks like they have been worn numerous times without being washed. Even two small children wouldn’t account for that level of yuck.

Can I ask something? Regarding the parties and the mixing of people at these gatherings, how were they not all terrified? We had nothing but fear as we were meant to be avoiding people etc due to this deadly virus. Don't get me wrong, I know the virus is real, but, why were these politicians not terrified of getting it?

Apparently according to the BBC news the PMs fine was for his birthday where he received a cake in June 2020/don’t suppose he was that bothered about getting it as he had only just recovered from it

I object strongly to Fabricants comments about teachers and hospital workers having drinks at work. For many years it would be an instant sackable offence for teachers to drink on the premises after hours. I can't comment on hospital workers but I would imagine they are the same. How dare he defend Johnson by casting slurs on professions! I am sock of the shower of them.

Totally agree Grandmabatty. Bad enough insulting teachers, but also the exhausted NHS staff, many who were on the edge during the pandemic.

I don't think so. Parking regulations are usually set by local authorities, aren't they? Weren't the covid regulations national law, passed by parliament? So rather more 'serious'.

A fixed penalty notice can't be contested, but if the recipient refuses or fails to pay it they can be taken to court and the legalities can be determined there. If found guilty of breaking the covid regulations I think he would then have a criminal record... Our resident solicitor might be able to advise on that...

But, as Wwmk2 says, it is the misleading parliament that is the resigning matter.

This is an example of the depths they will sink to. Who next is Johnson going to blame. Who next will they try and paint the same as them.

Absolutely! I can just imagine my daughter's reaction to this - she is a nurse and I can assure you that the very last thing she'd want to be doing after a 12-hour shift (in full PPE) would be hanging around to have a drink with colleagues (even it was allowed, which it most certainly is not).

I don’t know the answer to that but don’t forget that what Johnson should resign for is not the fixed penalty notice, but for

MISLEADING PARLIAMENT.

The key point is not that Boris Johnson received a penalty notice.
The key point is that the fine proves he has repeatedly lied to parliament about his actions during COVID.
Democracy requires - for voting for accountability - leaders who tell the truth.
He must go.
