Is this Boris’s latest attempt to divert us all from dwelling on the fact that he repeatedly lied to parliament?

It emerged on the News last night that Priti Patel had not priced the Rwandan experiment, no one has checked the legality of it, or the practicality of it, no one can say what would happen if people refused to be transported to Rwanda...

If, as we are told, this proposed arrangement is mainly to stop the illegal human traffickers from continuing to make so much money by charging large amounts to put these poor people into dingies - then surely, the easier and much cheaper (as well as humane ) solution would be to provide an easy and speedy processing system in Calais and then to provide safe and appropriate ferries over to the UK.

Anyone checking on actual umbers knows that the only a comparative small number of these refugees actually want to come to UK. Those that do it is usually because they already have ties with this country through language and family.

The UK has a small number of refugees wanting to come here, proportionate to our size and population numbers than countries like France and Germany, etc. It is just totally untrue and pure propoganda which states they are all coming here because of our wonderful (sic) benefit system!!!!

Would those that know about this wonderful system, please share the information with the rest of us.

So, those fleeing from war and bombing in Ukraine and welcomed in UK, but those fleeing war and bombing in non-European countries are just scroungers, and deserve to be sent thousands of miles away to Concentration Camps.

Ha ha when losing the argument bring up the Nazi's so predictable, you've already mention fascists what next let me think Hitler ? or Nigel Farage could even be both a double whammy.

Not sure of your point. Didn’t the Nazi’s have exactly the same plan in the 1930s before they decided on the final solution?

You may wish to look it up

It was known as the Madagascar Solution.

In our case it is the Rwanda Solution.

French fascist Marine le Pen thinks sending migrants to Rwanda is a good idea. No surprise that she's backing Boris again. She joined Putin and Trump in backing brexit

Patel has had to take responsibility for this as apparently civil servants could not come up with modelling. The whole plan is just ridiculous.

Because it is illegal. Against international law.

Civil servants can’t knowingly break the law, and will only do so if directed by a minister.

It will be popular with the Red Wall who lent their vote to Boris to get Brexit done (they wanted to control our borders) it will be popular in towns awash with fit young economic migrants lounging in 4 star hotels while some locals are struggling on benefits and food banks.

I wonder what sitting on the fence Starmer will say.

I would hope that their are not so many Nazi’s in this country as you may hope.

This is taken right out of the Nazi hymn sheet.

It’s bizarre and chilling. What mindset can the government have that it would healthily take our minds off
party-gate? It just confirms their judgement as appalling.
Imagine not hard, that someone has been sent to Rwanda, a dictatorship with poor human rights records. How could anyone escape from there seeking asylum in U.K.? Talk about 1984, Catch 22. Or any dystopian future.
And so many families like Priti Patel’s were given asylum by us from Uganda. Talk about pull up the rope jack. It’s absolutely awful. Rwanda still lives in our memories as a synonym for hell on Earth. And don’t they know it. Or they have such steely hearts and ears of tin.

From latest polls, the Red Wall are deeply disillusioned with this government.

They aren't being levelled up, and they (along with the rest of us), are suffering from rocketing prices and costs.

They thought Brexit would solve everything, and it obviously hasn't.

Those Red Wallers in Yorkshire are also furious that migrant detention centres are going to be built up there.

My view is this Rwanda thing will never come to pass -it'll be another expensive Johnson flop, being fought through the courts for months/years. ?

But, it did the job last week - changed the headlines from Partygate.

It appears that Patel was forced to issue a “ministerial directive” because the most senior civil servants objected to the Rwandan forced settlement scheme.

Good to know there has been pushback against this fascist policy.

Almost certainly because it is against the law.

Civil Servants must not break the law in their administering policy.

So Patel forced it through.

What a disgusting lot they are.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 16-Apr-22 03:48:41

UN has warned Johnson that the Rwanda plan is against international law.

Not that has ever stopped Johnson.

The rule of law doesn’t apply to him apparently.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 16-Apr-22 03:32:58

Tobias Ellwood, the Conservative chair of the defence select committee, accused Johnson of unveiling the plans (Rwanda) as part of a “massive distraction” from becoming the first prime minister to be found guilty of a criminal charge while in office.

I agree.

I was at a meeting the other week growstuff and a young woman was speaking about her wait for her asylum request to be processed. She spoke excellent English and has a degree but she isn't permitted to work. Such a waste of talent.

Callistemon that's funny but scary! A bit too near the truth.

It's true, trisher, so I was astonished when someone younger attended A&E and was in, seen and out in 4 or 5 hours.

Old people are pushed to the back of the queue here.

My gut feeling is that this 'plan' is pure theatre, that the Government knows perfectly well that it is unacceptable, unworkable and will never happen.

What will happen is that after all the publicity and the arguments, when the inevitable abandonment comes to pass, this Government will then shout from the rooftops that they were the party who tried to solve this serious problem but were thwarted by liberal lefties. An important section of the electorate whose knowledge of politics begins and ends with tabloid headlines will believe them and will vote accordingly in the coming elections. Job done!

I wouldn't mind betting there are some trained medics amongst the asylum seekers. How about letting them work?

So what would they like to do to the rest of us? Send OAPs off somewhere?

No, they let us sit in ambulances outside hospitals for 12 hours then sit on hard chairs in the hospital for 24 hours until you fall off the chair.

Hey presto- another one bites the dust.

It might be a bit better in England, of course.

"As rabbis and members of the British Jewish community, we are utterly appalled by government’s inhumane plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda for offshore processing. Such a policy flies in the face of Jewish values, and would be a cruel, moral failure".

This

“If you’ve ever wondered what you would have done in 1930s Germany…

Your attitude towards this Rwanda scheme will tell you everything you need to know”

Indeed

It would be interesting to know why those who are backing it think this is different to attitudes in 1930s Germany.
