How did you vote and why today
Is this Boris’s latest attempt to divert us all from dwelling on the fact that he repeatedly lied to parliament?

Who knew Rwanda is a member of the Commonwealth?
I do. I’ve sponsored 2 girls through the charity PLAN. One is now a Doctor.
One of the real problems will be allegations that deported migrants have been abused and mistreated in Rwanda, the news hounds will be all over that.
Migrants will deliberately cause problems just to get the news attention.
Nice piece by Robert Peston this evening. What follows is an extract of it. Note that he calls it "expulsion":
There are many unanswered questions about the government’s new policy of compelled expulsion to Rwanda of uninvited asylum claimants. Here are just a few.
1) What is the estimated cost per expelled refugee? None of the briefings give a clue. In its absence, how can the policy be assessed for its value for money, compared with the status quo?
2) What is the UK’s responsibility - moral, legal - if bad things (illness, accident, attack) happen to the expelled refugees after arrival in Rwanda?
3) Since the UK and Rwanda say only adults will be shipped to Rwanda, and the Home Office says families will not be broken up, how can the Home Secretary be confident she has not created a perverse incentive to malign smugglers, to carry whole families across the dangerous Channel crossing in precarious small boats, putting the lives of more children at risk?
4) Here is the UK Foreign Office’s assessment of the welfare and safety of the LGBT+ community in Rwanda: “Homosexuality is not illegal in Rwanda but remains frowned on by many. LGBT individuals can experience discrimination and abuse, including from local authorities. There are no specific anti-discrimination laws that protect LGBT individuals.” Given the UK government’s official view that LGBT people are at risk in Rwanda, will LGBT asylum seekers be expelled to Rwanda or will they be exempt?
5) How is sub-contracting to another country a profound humanitarian problem consistent with the UK’s proud history of fair play and tolerance?
And I have a last question, which is whether the mood of the UK’s voters in relation to desperate people coming to these shores has been changed by the tragedy in Ukraine - and whether the prime minister’s and home secretary’s idea of expelling asylum seekers to Rwanda will be less popular than they think.

It can only be repatriation if they came from Rwanda in the first place
That is true
So not even repatriation but forced to a country you may never of heard of and don’t want to live in, that was criticised by the very government who is forcing you there, for its poor human rights record.
It can only be repatriation if they came from Rwanda in the first place
So this is forced repatriation. This is not about processing - it is a one way ticket.
I thought the Trump was bad but… and this is include those that arrived in January of this year.
Japan doesn’t like to admit foreigners and they have an aging problem.
Yes, what is the point in sending them for "processing" if they aren't going to be allowed back anyway? That's what was being reported on PM today.
I'm not racist, but it's those foreign brown people that are causing all the problems!
"Going to be processed" It's a one way ticket that they are going to get, so surely, it's not beyond belief that desperate enough, they may begin the long trek back and end up once again in a tiny boat in the middle of the channel.
Are all refugees being sent there ? including Syrians, Afghanis and those from other African nations?
Did they think this idea up at one of their illegal, lock down parties?

From what Germanshepherdsmum, JaneJudge and Coastpath say, it seems that perhaps men are the problem, never mind what colour their skins may be...
The government has decided to apply this policy to single men. I haven't. But I do know that the shoplifting gangs in my nearest city are wholly comprised of non-English speaking young men with brown or black faces. Make of that what you will.

You forgot the 'but...

Who knew Rwanda is a member of the Commonwealth?
Israel according to bbc news stopped the same scheme last year because the people who were forcibly repatriated were subsequently people trafficked, tortured and raped. It was quite dreadful.
I think it’s very patronising to say that a Conservative voter must find it difficult to criticise something the party has done. That’s ridiculous. No party is anywhere near perfect but often gets votes because it’s the best of a bad bunch. To suggest that someone can’t cope with criticism of the party they support is to suggest that they’re completely mindless.

The people with the least to fear from brown faces are the most fearful.
Who’s fearful of them? Except those who room around in gangs and commit crimes as I’ve already said. But I fear for the futures of our own poor when the local authorities charged with housing them decently and educating their children have to spend enormous amounts on asylum seekers instead.A number of "our own poor" have brown faces.
I suppose the White Supremacists in the USA wouldn't think that when it comes to there "own poor". It must depend on who you think of as "our own"
OakDryad and Coastpath, thank you for showing compassion and empathy . I am a woman of faith, and these matter to me.
Such qualities have marked our nation for years, and I hope will continue to be so in the future.
I speak as the granddaughter of an Italian immigrant/migrant worker.

Anyway, I literally just came on here to see how many thumbs ups Urmstongran has got since her 14.31 post. Tally currently = 2. Both from Urmstongran. I am heartened by this.
I actually posted a ✔️ in one post instead of a thumbs up in case anybody thought I was agreeing with Urmstongran

It’s illegal to enter the country without the requisite permission, or attempt to do so.
No, it isn't. They have a legal right to claim asylum the moment they land. They're not "illegal" until/unless asylum is denied and they stay. As a former solicitor, I would have thought you would have known that.
The Court of Appeal found Channel boat crossings are not illegal in December 2021. If it was illegal why is this fascist government about to try and change the law? If Johnson stays in power, it won't be long before they don't need to worry about what the law says and then everything his supporters say will be right.
Heaven only knows what will happen to the rest of us.

Don't forget the nasty women who have children they then send to childminders or nurseries while they work!
