It’s just not relevant to this thread Anniel. The question was what the country thinks about Johnson, he will be replaced by another Tory leader, not by a Labour politician because the Tories are in power for another two years. What people think of Starmer actually has nothing to do with the thread at all, but people keep throwing it in as a diversionary tactic.

Sadly, unless we reform our electoral system, we remain forever stuck with the 2 party system, and even that is now quite nicely stacked in Tory favour.
I still hope to see a country where every vote counts and we can establish a coalition of the best policy makers to lead us.
Climate change is our greatest challenge, we need to eliminate party in-fighting and get all MPs working together with one clear goal.

I get really tied of this excuse about Labour/Libdems/Greens not knowing what a woman is, and I don't wish to start another discussion on the subject, but, this is one item, one thing, one trumped up issue by the Tories and their followers in the press. Most intelligent people evaluate what is being offered by a party, decide what is important for them and their family, for the good of the country as a whole, and vote accordingly. Are those of you so fixated on cervixes saying that you are prepared to throw everyone else under the bus because of this one issue that you have suddenly decided is your number one priority? What about broken promises re the Triple Lock, disabled people struggling to make ends meet, families unable to feed their children properly, house prices and rents going through the roof, shit in the rivers, crashing economy, cruel and illegal treatment of refugees.........that is without the lies and attempts to overturn the rule of law. By voting for the Tories you are saying that you are happy with the lives of the majority of people in this country getting far worse, and to hide behind faux outrage about the definition of a woman is shameful

The prioritisation of this issue above all else is pushed by the Tory Party and the right wing press in an attempt to divert from the manifest failures, lies and corruption of the appalling Johnson Government. It comes from the same people that keep telling us to concentrate on the most important issues.

Why is our liar PM going on a trade mission to India? That is generally carried out by the Foreign office.

I’m sure you will remember that KS was the only leadership candidate who refused to say yes to “are Trans women women”, he simply refused to get into it. The trans lobby is immense and most people have no idea about what is at stake. They think it is a tiny issue and have no idea of the issues for children’s mental health or adult fairness / safeguarding. Most people can be persuaded that babies can be “born in the wrong body” and anyone who doesn’t smooth their way including offering intrusive mutilating surgery is the equivalent of racist or homophobic! I hope that KS will get braver but at the moment the issue is completely toxic.

I am so fed up of hearing the ‘Labour doesn’t know what a woman is’ chant. It’s boring; it’s not true; it minimises a hugely complex issue into a ridiculous sound bite - just to deflect from BJ’s deceit and lies. Keir Starmer has more respect for women than BJ will ever have. BJ is a serial adulterer; a man who started having an affair with when his wife (now ex) was undergoing treatment for cancer! Respect! Women!

It’s quite difficult to criticise Starmer for what he says, or his behaviour, or appearance LizzieDrip, so the Tory voters have hung their hats on ‘Captain Hindsight’, ‘He doesn’t know what a woman is’ and saying he’s boring. On the other hand - At least he’s not a proven liar, law breaker, philanderer, who forgets what he’s supposed to say and can only take in a single page brief on any given subject. It’s so hard to choose really, isn’t it.

In a normal (whatever that is) situation I would agree that the Conservative Party should perhaps cast about for a new leader, although no obvious successor comes to mind. The Labour Party to my mind offers no credible alternative unless one wants to consider surrendering to their views which I am afraid are far too woke for me and includes many politicians whose extreme views I loathe. And we have the war in Ukraine which is of absolutely immense significance to European and World peace and the geopolitical order. Ok , it might have let him off the hook for now, but Johnson seems to have been dealing with it pretty well and to destabilise the present government and its relationship with Europe, the US and NATO would delight Putin and his cronies. Additionally, how do we know for sure that Russia is not somehow involved in the current trashing of the Prime Minister? It’s their not unheard of modus operandi, theatrical as it seems! Someone here called Johnson a dictator. No, Putin is a REAL dictator, he has the world stage and must not succeed.

I have absolutely no idea what "the country" thinks about Johnson. It is not really my concern, as I don't live in the UK.

However, I do wonder why countries put up with oafs like Johnson and Trump in important positions.

Interesting. I bet there's been a massive concerted effort to dig some dirt on Keir Starmer and none has been found. To me he seems an entirely honourable and trustworthy person who has devoted his life to service.

The criticisms I hear about him aren't his about his integrity or intelligence they are that he's not 'statesmanlike' or that he's dull. I wish we could give him a chance and have a break from all the drama. Some cool, sensible, reliable stability could be just the antidote after all the chaos, lies and showmanship.

He might be intelligent etc but doesn't seem to know women have a cervix and men have a penis. No way would I vote for anyone or party that have effectively cancelled 50% of the population.

Dreadful man. Liar. Ar work, with wives, with friends. I’ve met Starmer (briefly) and really liked him, everyone who has worked with him says he is completely respectful and reliable. I think there is a choice. But what a time to come into government- recession, plague, war, climate change- would I wish it on anyone? Especially anyone with a conscience. These disasters may bounce off Johnson’s narcissistic skin.
