This board is obviously populated by a majority of members who would never vote Conservative whoever is PM. There are people who still hate Margaret Thatcher and say so. I am in a minority here and most of you are much younger than me. In future I will see topics clearly started by Tory haters and will ignore them as I am persona non grata and will read posts that interest most members other than Tory Hate.

Bye

Plunger

Kandinsky

People will still vote Tory because there’s absolutely no credible alternative.
Sir Kier Starmer just isn’t that popular & the Labour Party seem a bit lost.

I'll never vote for a party who can't say that women have a cervix. They don't have a penis, men do.

An hermaphrodite can have both.

Grantanow Wed 20-Apr-22 15:05:37

He has to go. Even the former Chief Whip Harper thinks so. But the Tory MPs will keep him in post because they are scared of losing their soft seats at the next General Election and they don't believe any other Tory MP could win the Election for them. They may be right but it's putting self-interest before national interest.

How do you know that most people on here are younger than you? Possibly I'm older than you (75) and would never vote Tory. Too many years of austerity is one good example.

I have to say when I registered on this site I was hoping to chat to people of my own generation, and thought it would be something I would enjoy reading every day. I am very disappointed in that it is very much a Labour Party orientated site, and the continual insulting of Boris Johnson is incredible! If some of you think that the Opposition would lead us successfully you are deluded, they have absolutely nothing to offer. Boris has led us successfully away from Europe (look at the mess they are in with Russian gas & oil), led through the worst pandemic in our history, and is now the leader in helping war torn Ukraine.

With this, I think I will bow out of this site.

You could try " Conservative Home" if you'd prefer an echo chamber Marg

Well, thanks for calling many of us deluded. I hope you find a forum full of people that agree with you politically given that you don’t wish to enter in any sort of political debate.

Is everyone that backs him a Liar and a cheat? It makes me feel that they must be as bad.
How will other world leaders trust him ?
How will anyone in this country trust him?

pintuck Wed 20-Apr-22 15:53:55

I don't understand the 'no alternative' issue. I find Starmer an excellent leader and would far rather be governed by him and the many top notch front benchers in the labour party - Yvette Cooper, Rachel Reeves, Thangam Debbonaire etc. I think Johnson got in with such a huge majority last time because a) people were sick to death of hearing about Brexit and just wanted it sorted and b) even lifetime Labour voters could not bring themselves to vote for that idiot Corbyn. I think (hope!) it will be very different at the next general election.

Most of them are just defending the indefensible. Can they not see that, when he goes (which he will) they will have been on the wrong side of history? Why are so few of them capable of saying what they really think? It really is a dictator like situation.

Well this is strange.A Daily Mail poll said that only 17% of those questioned thought Boris should go. Are all that 17% on Gransnet? Having heard the recent parliamentary broadcast i was appalled at the unpleasant yelling directed at Boris from the Opposition. THEY are the ones who should go. Boris has acquitted himself well re vaccines and facing up to Putin, and I hope the scheme to stop economic migrants goes ahead too. No-one could have done a better job, least of all those braying Lefties. I can't understand why they or you are making such a carry-on about Downing Street's little get together. It's of no consequence to me, and nor should it be to you. Did you never break the rules at school?

Dinahmo Wed 20-Apr-22 16:04:44

I had thought that some of the people complaining about this site were younger (maybe 50s) but it would appear not. Perhaps they need a Great Grand Parents site?

Casdon Wed 20-Apr-22 16:07:11

yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/trackers/boris-johnson-approval-ratinG
65% think he is doing badly as PM on YouGov.
www.newstatesman.com/politics/polling/2022/04/voters-are-clear-boris-johnson-must-go
61% think he should resign on Savantas.
It all depends whether you believe reputable poll sites or the Daily Mail.

Not everyone is a socialist on this site so get stuck in and argue your side of the story, BJ gets a lot of stick which pretty much reflects the story you see in the press, Starmer has a long way to go to convince his own party he is worthy let alone floating voters.
There are a few others that think Brexit is the best thing that happened since sliced bread, it doesn’t matter because it’s a fact of life we have to live with it.

Callistemon21 Wed 20-Apr-22 16:11:17

Did you never break the rules at school ?

Perhaps I shouldn't answer that except to say that I didn't make the rules. In this case they were laws, so they acted unlawfully.

He's not a naughty schoolboy, eating sweeties in public.

MaizieD Wed 20-Apr-22 16:27:09

I don't think the public found his 'apology' particularly convincing.

This tweet from YouGov:

YouGov@YouGov

Britons don't believe Boris Johnson is genuinely sorry for breaking lockdown rules

All Brits
He is sorry: 20%
He is not sorry: 66%

Con voters
He is: 41%
He is not: 41%

Lab voters
He is: 5%
He is not: 91%

I agree with you, but it is useless going against the grain. There are many thousands of gransnetters who don’t come on these threads. We’re not necessarily in the minority.

albertina Wed 20-Apr-22 16:27:45

I agree with you nanna8, he's a joke.

I was in Ireland recently and they were all having a good laugh at us for putting up with the joker in Number 10.

It's shameful

Maudi Wed 20-Apr-22 16:38:01

Well they would have been in hysterics then if Corbyn had got in. What a mess we would have been in then.

They need a GreatGrandTories site where they can enthuse about their chosen one and thrill each other with stories of Corbyn and cervixes

Maudi, we could not have been in more of a mess than we are already with a PM who is a joke on the world stage and I never liked Corbin.
We have nothing more than a dictator as leader.
