Excellent news - Boris is allowing Tory MP’s to vote with their conscience today. Good. No whipping for the party line. Labour won’t be happy as they were taunting earlier this week that the whips would be out!

We have had some excellent speeches from all sides of the house.

Then we seem to drop to the level of 6th form debating society with people like Alexander Stafford of Rother - dear oh dear.

If the vote goes against him, shit happens. I think a handful of Tories will vote against him. But I don’t think 80 of them will do so. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas although I suppose it depends how many emails MP’s are receiving from their constituents.

I have no axe to grind with any political party per se but, and a huge but , once any MP , has the temerity to lie to the House or obfuscate my bullshit radar is on red alert.
Enough said.

It always amazes me how his brexiteer supporters conveniently forget his previous remain stance.

... and it amazes me even more that some of them - especially those males who regard themselves as 'ordinary working class' can ignore his contemptuous and damning comments about them a few years ago. He called them, for the best part, "lazy", "feckless" and "usually drunk"...

Similar, perhaps, to the antics of the Bullingdon Set, behaving like oafs in restaurants throwing food around and trashing the place afterwards?

I'm not suggesting all Tories are like this, but Johnson and his cohorts behaved abominably because their privileged lifestyle, their sense of self-entitlement allowed them to. I believe that truth be told he and others like him largely hold the working class in contempt and that we are being patronised with mantras kike "levelling up".

And you know what else? I could forgive him for 'partying' and breaking his own rules, if he'd just come clean at the outset and put his hands up, it's the lying, obfuscating, blustering buffoonery that he thinks charms him out of trouble, the way he responds to any attempt to hold him to account by shaking his head from side to side and mussing up his hair... and I think I'm going to shut up now before I explode with rage - not because of the parties, but because he's taking us for fools, and that makes me mad as hell.

I’ve been impressed on the big issues with Boris. Sourcing out vaccine procurement to Kate Bingham (not NHS England) was stellar. He’s doing a grand job on the world stage with Ukraine.

But if the Tory party come against him heavily, fair enough. Not my circus not my monkeys.

not because of the parties, but because he's taking us for fools, and that makes me mad as hell.

Looking at posts from his defenders I think he's correct in his judgement of 'fools' for a proportion of the electorate. The big question is, 'Is he correct in thinking that there will always be enough of them to keep him in power?'

Johnson was the main instigator of brexit. We are in the process of parliament branding him as a liar. Brexit was based on those lies….

I get the feeling that wheels are coming off the Johnson bus.

Boris Johnson knew that only a Brexiter would get voted into Number 10, and that was his golden opportunity to fulfil his ambition, so he straightened his tie, put on a new hat, adjusted his principles and rhetoric to suit, and got Brexit "done"... theoretically.

What was promised and has since been 'delivered' would indicate that he simply is not a very good Brexiteer... I'm not even sure he got the ball over the line. It depends on which angle the 'camera' looks at.

Well looks like the plan to open investigation into whether the PM misled the House has been “nodded” through.

I do think the "got brexit done" is already wearing thin as a vote winner.

What's the betting that if Johnson survives and as the ghastly impact of brexit becomes more and more apparent, even to readers of the Daily Mail, Johnson will start to claim that brexit was nothing to do with him?.

I don't think he can survive this, varian. The local elections look set to be really bad for the tories. Is there anything else in the offing that 'could' save his bacon? The only question for me is, will he go now or will he try to hang on until the bitter end?

There wasn't exactly a great deal of support from the tory benches, was there? Not even a division on the motion.
