Mark Harper. Is he the first to distance himself?

The former whip has written to Sir Graham.Brady detailing why he no longer thinks Johnson is fit for high office. Basically what most of us have been saying for weeks.

Didn't somebody resign last week? I believe there have been a number of letters of no confidence but not enough to trigger the next step.

Jess Phillips is brilliant….

I was just going to start a thread but saw that you had done already, GillT57.

Well done, Mark, for standing up in the House and saying what needs to be said.

Yes, but why is Mark Harper saying this now? Both he and Steve Baker are both anti-covid-regulations. So why are they calling for BJ to go?

Hypocrisy?
Wanting the job of PM?
Revenge for BJ introducing such silly rules in the first place?

They all knew what Johnson was like and can just see the next election slipping away from them. They were happy to foist a man totally unsuitable as a PM on this country because they knew his ‘charisma’ and capability of lying to the electorate would win them the election. You only need to look at their voting record to see what they’re really like.

Agree with Callistemon. Well done, and we need more to do the same.

Not confident though that all Tories realised that BJ would be quite as bad as this, or indeed that Brexit would be the disaster it has been. No need to call Mark Harper et al hypocrites for speaking up now IMO.

My partner and I were saying last night how we didn’t understand why his fellow MP’s were only just realising how immoral and useless Johnson was when we’ve known for years. As did Rory Stewart, Dominic Grieve, Ken Clarke and Anna Soubry, all of whom left the party for various reasons. Those with principles eg Stewart, wouldn’t serve under him.

Yes, but why is Mark Harper saying this now? Both he and Steve Baker are both anti-covid-regulations.
He wasn't against them - he queried whether it was wise to continue them after January this year.
He thought more people should be persuaded to be vaccinated

The problem is he sort of wants to agree with us, then he says he wants to keep restrictions in reserve or won’t rule them out,” Harper said. “That’s becoming an unsustainable position.

Yes, but why is Mark Harper saying this now?
It's not just now.

They are starting to see Johnson as a liability. They will ditch him to save their own skins.
