Claiming to be politically homeless now isn't really an exoneration. We were warned, we were repeatedly warned, what a vote that would empower Johnson would do. But tory voters just went ahead and did it.

Bit of a rerun of their disastrous Brexit vote (also driven by the Liar in Chief) really...

I don’t agree MaizieD. It takes more bottle to say you voted Tory, but don’t support the current government than it does for those of us who never did to condemn what they are doing. Anybody who still clings in there in the face of the evidence we now have about Boris et al is deluding themselves, but there’s no need to attack those who are honest enough to say they are now politically homeless.
As for the MPs, I hope they allow a free vote on Thursday so the ones with a conscience can vote as they wish.

I hope that post makes you feel better MaizieD , I am not asking for yours or anyones exoneration on where I placed my X on my ballot paper.

I like many others are politically homeless until such time the Conservatives regroup and reform or I have a credible candidate in my constituency from another party who’s manifesto I could support.

My constituency MP is working extremely hard on their constituents behalf, thank you.

Also the name dropping. We had already been told that Johnson would start his ‘apology’ by saying he had just been on the phone to Biden ( or someone like that) before he went to the party. I mean, what was all that about? A sort of ‘I’ve got friends in high places, y’know’. Did he manage to slip in vaccine roll out as well, or was that one of his colleagues?

One would hope that that would be enough to send the letters flooding in to the 1922 committee. There must be some decent tory MPs, surely, who are furious at the appalling things they are to do to save Johnson's worthless skin.

I should point out, Casdon, that I have offered my respect to GG13 on several occasions regarding her political homelessness. Today I'm just mad at all the enablers of this dreadful abortion of a government.

It is so like Russia and Putin - a hard core group of cronies who dare not kick him out; backbenchers afraid of starting a vote of no confidence because they do not want to scupper their careers. The parallels are terrifying frankly.

A damning interview on Sky News with Sir Roger Gale who basically said Johnson just doesn’t take partygate seriously. It just reminds me of that school report of Johnson’s that just said he doesn’t think any rules apply to him. He has never changed and he never will. How did we reach the point where men like him can become PM?

I thought Starmers statement was one of the best he has done.

It was notable that there was a complete silence of discomfort at the end of Starmer’s speech before the pack wound themselves up for more support for the lying criminal.

Okay, I just don’t like to see personal attacks on somebody who admits what’s happening is wrong.
According to BBC News there isn’t a three line whip - yet. I expect there will be though. His demise as PM is inevitable. You can see it playing out, there will doubtless be more fines to follow, and ultimately a free vote will be allowed at which point he will go, having delayed his own execution by months when they could already be sorting out his successor.

Excellent post MaiziD, and I share your frustration and fury. The more people vote for the 'nice constituency MP' the longer we will be left with this shameful government and shameless PM. Just remember, your 'nice constituency MP' is propping up this liar and his cabinet, and is one of the spineless backbenchers who bray at the opposition and cheer when the liar in chief stands up to spew out more lies make a speech. Did anyone else see that toe curling street interview of Rees-Mogg on Newsnight? Now he is one we are assured is a 'nice constituency MP'.

For context; I too have shared my sympathy with Tory voters who loathe the Johnson administration and are angered by the destruction of the morals of the party they voted for. I save my anger for those who still won't admit what is going on in plain sight.

Anyone defending Johnson should be confident that a House of Commons Standards committee would find him innocent I& the charges of flouting the ministerial code.

There isn’t a three line whip as yet is there? I can’t find anywhere on the news that there is.
