Boris Johnson - Apology? Respect?

Boris Johnson hasn’t even got enough respect to comb his hair before appearing in the House of Commons. What a shambles of a so called leader. What an embarrassment to be British with him as Prime Minister - using the war and suffering of the Ukrainian people to hide behind, to escape resigning for the lies he’s told when misleading parliament.

MaizieD the OP was referring to the PM, I was responding to several posters who said that having Mr.Johnson as PM made them ashamed to be British

My identity is not linked in anyway to the current Government.

Well, I hope the rest of it shames you.

Claiming to be politically homeless now isn't really an exoneration. We were warned, we were repeatedly warned, what a vote that would empower Johnson would do. But tory voters just went ahead and did it.

Bit of a rerun of their disastrous Brexit vote (also driven by the Liar in Chief) really...

P.S
Those nice constituency MPs are keeping this government afloat. They should be ashamed of themselves, utterly and abjectly ashamed...

I don’t agree MaizieD. It takes more bottle to say you voted Tory, but don’t support the current government than it does for those of us who never did to condemn what they are doing. Anybody who still clings in there in the face of the evidence we now have about Boris et al is deluding themselves, but there’s no need to attack those who are honest enough to say they are now politically homeless.
As for the MPs, I hope they allow a free vote on Thursday so the ones with a conscience can vote as they wish.

I hope that post makes you feel better MaizieD , I am not asking for yours or anyones exoneration on where I placed my X on my ballot paper.

I like many others are politically homeless until such time the Conservatives regroup and reform or I have a credible candidate in my constituency from another party who’s manifesto I could support.

My constituency MP is working extremely hard on their constituents behalf, thank you.

All the fatuous rhetoric about Covid, Ukraine and other ‘achievements’ is wearing thin.
I despair ?

Also the name dropping. We had already been told that Johnson would start his ‘apology’ by saying he had just been on the phone to Biden ( or someone like that) before he went to the party. I mean, what was all that about? A sort of ‘I’ve got friends in high places, y’know’. Did he manage to slip in vaccine roll out as well, or was that one of his colleagues?

Nope, there's a three line whip..

One would hope that that would be enough to send the letters flooding in to the 1922 committee. There must be some decent tory MPs, surely, who are furious at the appalling things they are to do to save Johnson's worthless skin.

I should point out, Casdon, that I have offered my respect to GG13 on several occasions regarding her political homelessness. Today I'm just mad at all the enablers of this dreadful abortion of a government.

Luckygirl3 Wed 20-Apr-22 10:05:24

It is so like Russia and Putin - a hard core group of cronies who dare not kick him out; backbenchers afraid of starting a vote of no confidence because they do not want to scupper their careers. The parallels are terrifying frankly.

And he is left free to do what he likes: lie, cheat, ignore parliamentary rules

MayBee70 Wed 20-Apr-22 10:23:47

A damning interview on Sky News with Sir Roger Gale who basically said Johnson just doesn’t take partygate seriously. It just reminds me of that school report of Johnson’s that just said he doesn’t think any rules apply to him. He has never changed and he never will. How did we reach the point where men like him can become PM?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 20-Apr-22 10:28:17

How did we reach a point where men like Tory MPs haven’t either the balls or the integrity to kick him out.

None of them are up to it imo.

Even a so called good constituent MP can’t be that good if he has no spine.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 20-Apr-22 10:38:54

I thought Starmers statement was one of the best he has done.

It was notable that there was a complete silence of discomfort at the end of Starmer’s speech before the pack wound themselves up for more support for the lying criminal.

Okay, I just don’t like to see personal attacks on somebody who admits what’s happening is wrong.
According to BBC News there isn’t a three line whip - yet. I expect there will be though. His demise as PM is inevitable. You can see it playing out, there will doubtless be more fines to follow, and ultimately a free vote will be allowed at which point he will go, having delayed his own execution by months when they could already be sorting out his successor.

GillT57 Wed 20-Apr-22 11:28:13

Excellent post MaiziD, and I share your frustration and fury. The more people vote for the 'nice constituency MP' the longer we will be left with this shameful government and shameless PM. Just remember, your 'nice constituency MP' is propping up this liar and his cabinet, and is one of the spineless backbenchers who bray at the opposition and cheer when the liar in chief stands up to spew out more lies make a speech. Did anyone else see that toe curling street interview of Rees-Mogg on Newsnight? Now he is one we are assured is a 'nice constituency MP'.

Mark Harper spoke up in The House!!

For context; I too have shared my sympathy with Tory voters who loathe the Johnson administration and are angered by the destruction of the morals of the party they voted for. I save my anger for those who still won't admit what is going on in plain sight.

Anyone defending Johnson should be confident that a House of Commons Standards committee would find him innocent I& the charges of flouting the ministerial code.

But

There is a three line whip to vote against it.

That tells you all you need to know about their confidence doesn’t it?

There isn’t a three line whip as yet is there? I can’t find anywhere on the news that there is.

Well let’s see how they vote.

Would you like a bet?

MayBee70 Wed 20-Apr-22 12:16:35

He just lied again about more people being in employment since before covid. Hasn’t this been proved to be a lie several times , or am I getting it confused with other lies? And, if it was a lie he didn’t even need to say it. He just can’t help himself.

There must be a reason why he's not Chief Whip any longer; he's too principled!

MaizieD Wed 20-Apr-22 12:48:49

Re Three line whip, I picked it up from this tweet by Adam Wagner (barrister) this morning. Not sure what his source is, though

Adam Wagner@AdamWagner1

Not sure that whipping Conservative MPs to avoid a parliamentary standards investigation of the PM, where it’s obvious the fear is the committee’s power to demand documents, is the best look in the circumstances

Apologies if I've spread duff information.

I’m not saying they won’t get a whip, just that they hadn’t so far. It’s just delaying the execution.

MaizieD Wed 20-Apr-22 12:54:08

Aaaaaah. Front page of The Times:

Boris Johnson will order his MPs to block an investigation into claims that he mislead Parliament over lockdown breaking parties in Downing Street

I don’t know MaizieD, BBC, ITV and Sky weren’t reporting that the whip had happened. Maybe it has and they just don’t know!

MaizieD Wed 20-Apr-22 13:03:20

I expect that Murdoch has given Johnson his orders, Casdon

Probably - I think the vote would be different without the whip.
