Tories accuse Angela Raynor of "doing a Basic Instinct"

Totally outrageous, misogynistic so called news item in the dreaded DM today.

Senior Tories have accused Angela Raynor of distracting our buffoon Prime Minister by crossing and uncrossing her legs - à la Sharon Stone - in Prime Minister's question time.

Can they sink any lower???

Yet another disgusting example of the true mind sets of the guffawing Tories. They're a disgrace yet again.

volver Mon 25-Apr-22 15:52:20

Oh dear. Might they think her too common?

I don't know if she'd be any good or not, but I would rather see her talking to Macron than the buffoon we've currently got doing it.

Volver I think AR might be ideal PM material on the domestic front. I hesitate though as to whether she would be on the world stage.

Why does it irritate you? It's not true that you don't need brains for some of the better public schools, but it certainly is true in other cases. I've tutored some of them. Entitled and planks are just two words which occur to me.

With respect growstuff you've probably tutored pupils from one town, in one subject only, not had your own children in the private system, and don't regularly visit independent schools nationwide. Most of the children do not fit the above description.
But I can also speak about how hard it is to be successful when like AR you come from behind, having attended an inner London comprehensive myself.

Richard Branson dropped out of school at 16, has no degree...... just saying.

volver Mon 25-Apr-22 15:28:40

What is "PM Material"?

I dare say many people thought a former comedian wasn't "President Material" but that's worked out OK.

growstuff Mon 25-Apr-22 15:25:49

I don't think Rayner is PM material.

However, in addition to intelligence, MPs need passion and beliefs and Rayner has both in bucket loads.

A few years ago, I didn't think much of her, but she's gone up in my estimation.

Rayner must have worked damn hard to get where she is.
As I said up thread; she has done ‘everything backwards and in high heels’ (or Doc Martens)

Joseanne Mon 25-Apr-22 15:16:31

On the education front, I am sure AR does not have a degree, not that everything should be measured by academic achievement. Although she did not have a privileged upbringing and never went to public school or university, she certainly has a decent enough brain and can clearly see the mess Boris is making. Is she future PM material? I don't think so.

Sorry, but this sort of statement irritates me. Lets face it - you don't necessarily need to have brains to attend many public schools , do you? Just the required money, correct bloodline and arrogance!

That is probably why she flashes her fanny instead, then.

Oh, that tickled me up MissAdventure ???

This is as good a time as any to remind everyone

Love it!

Yet another ‘anonymous source’ Quotes from anonymous sources should not be treated as news but as gossip. This was commented on extensively when it happened so why it should be bought up again now is a mystery. Anything to do with the upcoming elections perhaps ?

Have you seen Damian Furniss' description of his encounter with Johnson in 1984? Furniss had come to Balliol for an interview and was quite daunted by this. As you might expect, our Prime Minister To Be did his best to reassure him and put him at ease.

“I was a rural working-class kid with a stammer from a state school which hadn’t prepared me for the experience,” Furniss would recall in 2019.

“My session with the dons was scheduled for first thing after breakfast, meaning I was staying the night and had an evening to kill in the college bar. Johnson was propping up the bar with his coterie of acolytes whose only apparent role in life was to laugh at his jokes. Three years older than me … you’d have expected him to play the ambassador role, welcoming an aspiring member of his college … Instead, his piss-taking was brutal. In the course of the pint I felt obliged to finish he mocked my speech impediment, my accent, my school, my dress sense, my haircut, my background, my father’s work as farm worker and garage proprietor, and my prospects in the scholarship interview I was there for. His only motivation was to amuse his posh boy mates.”

I'm not sure what's sadder. The fact that Johnson behaved like that or the fact that thousands of working class people appear to be blind to his faults, and those of the people he's surrounded himself with.

Grandma70s Mon 25-Apr-22 15:02:27

Progressing, not professing, obviously.

I should add that my politics are left-leaning, as they say. I have never voted Tory.

Grandma70s Mon 25-Apr-22 14:58:56

I don’t think she has a degree, has she? (Someone said she had.)

I admire her for professing so far in life from such a doubtful start, but I have to admit she makes me cringe too. I think the lack of education does show, and she lacks social graces, which do matter in a politician. I know some of the ostensibly well -educated ones, not least the PM, are utter oafs, but on the whole I prefer well-educated people to be in charge.

kjmpde Mon 25-Apr-22 14:57:52

if somebody is that easily distracted then how will a person every make logical decisions? I still can't get my head around the fact Rees-Mogg put notes on desks of homeworkers- does he not realize that staff working at home would not be able to read those notes ? It just makes the people in power look like idiots !

As above something for you to read

Its highly unlikely that there was ever a real MP who said this. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. If there was, it'll be some minor back bencher.

The real story is that that Daily Mail took a tiny little half truth and turned it into a misogynistic rant at a senior politician who they think has got above her station.

Madgran77 Mon 25-Apr-22 14:45:19

I see Johnson is turning to King Lear for hyperbolic effect when he stated that the terrors of the earth will be unleashed on the source, if found, behind the briefing against Angela Rayner?

His use of language is so ridiculous at times. Yesterday he was quoted as saying in an interview .."we kicked the cat a long way..." ..Pause, brain whirrs a bit ...."..not that I approve of kicking cats..."

Honestly what is the matter with the man!

If your going to put a post up at least get it correct and stop misguiding ppl I’ve never found anything that said senior and in fact it’s all hear say. Until scum media comes up with a name then I will believe it.

Daisymae Mon 25-Apr-22 14:44:02

Certainly looks like they are trying to keep her in her place. Just when you think that they can't go any lower, they do. They are doing a better job to promote the opposition than the opposition.

A jumper and trousers!!!
How outrageous, the slattern!

I know. I mean whoever heard of a woman wearing a jumper and trousers! I'm so shocked I need my smelling salts NOW!!

jaylucy Mon 25-Apr-22 14:29:09

It's a bit like a man saying that he couldn't concentrate while driving because he drove past a woman wearing tight shorts and that was why he drove into a lamp post !
Seriously in this day and age, if a grown man can't cope with a woman wearing a skirt within a few feet of them, it is a sad state of affairs and claiming that a woman is using distraction methods because they are not up to the" intellectual "standard of a man is so wrong.
Lets face it - you don't necessarily need to have brains to attend many public schools , do you? Just the required money, correct bloodline and arrogance!

Nanna58 Mon 25-Apr-22 14:22:40

Dickens , I have practical advice for Rees Mogg - a face transplant, a brain implant and a healthy dose of empathy to be shoved into the man preferably via the end opposite the first two improvements!

StoneofDestiny Mon 25-Apr-22 14:20:49

Yet we will still have droves of women on this site and Mumsnet say they are voting Tory because they 'know what a woman is'. Well it's clear now - they see women are objects to titillate men!
Utterly gross - can the Tories sink any lower? (Undoubtedly they can and will).
