Totally outrageous, misogynistic so called news item in the dreaded DM today.

Senior Tories have accused Angela Raynor of distracting our buffoon Prime Minister by crossing and uncrossing her legs - à la Sharon Stone - in Prime Minister's question time.

Can they sink any lower???

Yet another disgusting example of the true mind sets of the guffawing Tories. They're a disgrace yet again.

the 50s? Very fashionable these days. And there is nothing specifically 50s about using your physical attractions, male or female, to you or your causes advantage.

To think it doesn't happen these days, very much as it always did, is naive in the extreme.

I think she would be a fool if she hadn't done what she has been accused off/ admitted.

All is fair in love and politics and I am sure all MPs, both sexes, use every availble trick in the book - and a lot more - to distract their opponents and disconbobulate them. That is all she did, and it seems to be successful. Now she cannot use that ploy anymore.

Having seen her on the front bench on the news, since she came into prominence, I thought that she might be using her looks and dress style to disconcert the opposition, but never having seen Basic Instincts, or bothered to read much about it, the parallels did not occur to me.

Wow
Flashing your nickers to distract the PM seen as reasonable but has to be ditched when found out.
What a cynical, anti women post that is IMO.

Ohh look. Back to the fifties.

DaisyAnne- you’re on a roll, for which I thank you

Will Hutton tweeted:

The law of unintended consequences. The Mail group’s misogynistic attack on Angela Rayner sets up the chain of events leading to Neil Parish’s resignation, more soiling of the Tory party’s reputation and Rayner strengthened.Hardly the result it wanted

Unless they actually deal with this individual then speculation and rumour will be rife. Every time a government minister Is interviewed about how this person should be dealt with they do not seem to have any idea. Perhaps hoping for it to join partygate being kicked down the road, whilst the Ukraine war rages.
Whilst some may think these issues petty, the real concern is that there is no leadership in the government and discipline has disappeared. The authority of the leader is so important in the crisis we are now in with Ukraine.

He (or she) was seated next to a priest at the time, rumour has it...

Callistemon21 Wed 27-Apr-22 19:21:28

Gove? JRM? Not sure who else didn’t turn up who is male. I did notice most of the cabinet was missing.

I'm not sure that JRM would know what porn is. It might need to be explained.
I could be wrong.

Iam64 Wed 27-Apr-22 19:16:16

The attempt to compromise Angela Rayner by reporting her laughing when the femme fatale issuer was raised with her, totally ignores the reason women do this. It’s usually an attempt to diffuse, to avoid being accused of being humourless, frigid, mad feminist etc
Angela is coming out of this well. Much better that the MoS

I suppose if someone on the government front bench was to recline with his gaze directed towards the Labour front bench he might get a good view of legs. How many lazy recliners have we seen on the government front bench? Does that narrow it down?

Farzanah Wed 27-Apr-22 16:43:38

I have only seen that it was someone on the front bench, not necessarily a minister. Surely it will come out soon, and just reinforces the fact that the culture is toxic, and there is little discipline in the government.

Curlywhirly Wed 27-Apr-22 15:21:50

Well if the porn-watcher was a Minister and was watching it in the Chamber, no wonder the person reporting it was also a Minister, they'd be sat together on the front bench. What kind of complete moron would look at porn when sat in such close proximity to a colleague. I hope they are named and shamed and sacked.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 27-Apr-22 14:41:57

Sky reporting that it was a MINISTER!!

Who wasn’t present at PMQs

Somebody’s reputation is about to go right up the Swanee river, good on the female minister(s) for reporting. It’s like watching a soap opera at the moment, you couldn’t make it up.

Farzanah Wed 27-Apr-22 14:11:35

Apart from the inappropriateness of this in the Chamber, to sit near to a female MP whilst porn watching which was easily visible shows a serious contempt for women, and indeed other colleagues.

MaizieD Wed 27-Apr-22 13:58:57

Curlywhirly

According to a BBC political correspondent the person who reported the porn-watching MP was actually a Minister, and another MP who witnessed it also complained. Why on earth would anybody risk their reputation by watching porn in the chamber (or any work/public setting?). Talk about having a death wish!

He clearly didn't find Angela's legs exciting enough..

I've read somewhere today that there have been claims that more than one male MP has been watching porn while in the Commons chamber. Can't find it again, though to check...

It's quite unbelievable, isn't it? The embarrassment of being found out would be enough to put most people off (unless that was part of the thrill, I suppose).

There was someone a while ago who was caught with porn on his work computer, and I thought that then, too - bad enough to watch it in work time, but to use work equipment compounds the felony, but to know you'd then have to face constituents after getting caught just shows so many errors of judgement that it makes no sense.

tickingbird Wed 27-Apr-22 13:46:15

Probably par for the course with that lot.

cf Angela Rayner laughing previously about similar slurs.

The suggestion that AR was deliberately using her legs to distract the PM has been described by many as ‘ludicrous’, the dictionary definition of which is: causing laughter because of absurdity; provoking or deserving derision; ridiculous; laughable.

Farzanah Wed 27-Apr-22 13:19:41

The MP who reported it is apparently backed up by another woman. Who’d be a female MP with this culture?

Parsley3 Wed 27-Apr-22 13:16:23

The porn watching MP was sitting next to a female Conservative colleague at the time and she has reported it. That article about AR has opened up a whole can of worms.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 27-Apr-22 13:16:11

As an aside.

Where were the cabinet today at PMQs. It was all very odd, and the backbenches were pretty empty until just before Johnson turned up which is highly unusual.

varian Wed 27-Apr-22 12:58:06

Tory sleaze just gets sleazier and sleazier. It is almost as if they were competing to out-sleaze the very sleazy David Warburton.
