Written Constitution

After what has been and is happening to our unwritten constitution over the past few years I think that we need to have a written one with a good deal of urgency.

Politicians need reigning in and told their place, which is representatives of the U.K. population and nothing else.

WWM2. So agree with you with knobs on.

Today for instance another bit of democracy has gone with the Elections Bill passed last night. Next week's elections will be the last time voters in England won't need to show their ID at polling stations. Approx 2 million people lack the "correct" ID under the new legislation. I wonder why this is?

Did a written constitution get Trump out of the White House any sooner than at the 'correct' election time? There were plenty of grounds for thinking it could have been done sooner.

We do have a 'written constitution', it's just written in lots of different places... Good luck to anyone who tried to pull it all together...

What we lack is a codified constitution. Simply uniting what we have into a code will not change anything. What wwm wants to do is change our constitution.

We need wholesale constitutional reform which should include every level of government, the voting system, independence of the judiciary, human rights and education in citizenship. Writing it all down could be a first step but much needs to be changed.

It does no harm to get one done. Johnson has been eroding our democracy since he got in from prorogation through to the electoral commission.

They need reminding as to who are the bosses in this democracy and it isn’t them!

The whole thing needs looking at and bringing up to date.

Completely agree.

The real problem is that without a formal written constitution, it can be easily changed by any government - particularly the unwritten bits.

We leave ourselves wide open to any shambles of a government now and in the future.

Getting rid of a democratically elected prime minister is certainly problematic, and should be, but a written constitution can put limits on the harm being done.

Reinforcing judicial autonomy would be a start.

The PM of UK will now wield ultimate power over the Electoral Commission because, in a monarchy, they can. Just more proof that we do not have a functioning accountable democracy. #AbolishTheMonarchy more democracy not less.

Today the Queen will sign away our rights to protest in the UK. It is also in the interest of the monarchy to silence dissent, especially when an ascension is going to take place #AbolishTheMonarchy

Yes need a written constitution make it democratic from top to bottom. With monarchy can't changes to House of Lords

And do you know queen does nothing to defend our constitution unlike other Heads of State do in their countries.

Monarchy is bad for our politics
