Con MP Neil Parish has been named as the MP viewing porn sites whilst in The House of Commons.
He is a married father and grandfather shame on him if this is proved correct.

Why on earth did he think that was the thing to do? I find it baffling. Tractors or porn. No excuse for either.

grin

Because they think the world revolves around them, and they've been right, so far.
Where else, what other workplace allows employees to be pictured asleep, flouting laws, doing the most outrageous things, unchallenged?
Nowhere in the real world of work.

Very important to have a knowledge of tractors in Devon!,
ooo argh.

I know nothing about tractors!

Ok.

MissAdventure Sat 30-Apr-22 21:40:58

How can they concentrate when they're on their phones?
Oh, that's right - they can't.
The lure of looking at tractors is just too much.

A live screen, beaming breaking news as it happens.

How would they concentrate on what is going on in the commons? It would be like being in the pub with Bargain Hunt on silent - you can't help but be drawn to look at a screen, even when there's no sound.

I used to get angsty when students had phones out during classes, but came to realise that often they were looking up things to add information, or to clarify something they didn't understand, and I lightened up about it. It took a bit of getting used to, but now I am, I don't think it does any harm, and I'd much rather people could look up things they wanted to check than have something beamed in to the whole class - who would decide what breaking news should be broadcast, anyway?

I'm sure they could find another way to have access to breaking news.

Like what?

I can't remember the detail, but wasn't there something that broke in the middle of PMQs recently? Probably to do with Partygate. As I say, I can't remember, but it enabled a question to be asked before the spin doctors decided on the answers.

Having phones also allows people to check things like Hansard to check whether lies have been told and so on. I know it can seem rude when they are all sitting scrolling, and I'm sure at least some of them are doing their grocery shop, but I think we need to move with the times, really.

I think they have good reason to have their phones in the HoC, as breaking news can be important to debates, and at times it will be useful to be able to look things up. But accessing porn is absolutely not acceptable.

As for whether or why he is sorry - only he can know that - it's really annoying when people on the outside of a situation decide how someone else is feeling and why. He may well be sorry now that he realises how disrespectful he has been to his wife, his colleagues and his constituents, or he may just be furious with himself for being indiscreet; but quite frankly I don't care whether he's sorry or not. He did it, so he should resign. As should the drugs chap, and he should answer to the police, too.

Has Parrish said why he was looking up tractors? grin

Urmstongran Sat 30-Apr-22 20:17:28

Well, well. Lord Frost is being urged by allies to stand in the by-election that will be created by Neil Parish's departure from his traditionally safe Conservative seat.

Apparently OakDryad there might be some clues in the words Tractor Pulling? But I know nothing.

I know more now! You'd still have to search on that phrase though. I suspect Mr Contrite is being disingenuous.

Definitely disingenuous.

MissAdventure Sat 30-Apr-22 19:39:07

There is absolutely no way porn "accidentally" happened to the unsuspecting man.
They must think we all sailed up in a banana boat.

Whenever any of these men are accused of misdemeaners, their mobile phones should immediately be confiscated and thoroughly searched

Katie59 Sat 30-Apr-22 19:35:12

It’s easy to find out if he stumbled on porn by accident all the websites he visited and all the phone numbers are recorded, if they examine his phone they can get all the WhatsApp and instagram etc too.

Shamed MP David Warburton refused to attend Parliament’s anti-sexual harassment training

The married dad-of-two is accused of making unwanted sexual advances to three women and snorting cocaine

His wife, who is thought to be standing by him, said he was admitted to a psychiatric unit with shock.

The Sun on Sunday revealed the coke and grope scandal last week.

The 56-year-old condemned the course in 2020 after it was made mandatory in the light of a wave of sexual harassment allegations against MPs in 2017.

Warburton said: “I’ve had to sign up to the ‘Valuing Everyone’ re-education course as not signing up is apparently a clear marker I don’t value people.”

The Somerset MP added that he would “go no further down this rabbit hole” and as of last July had not attended.

The course is meant to tackle harassment and sexual misconduct.

Warburton was responding to an MP who said they would snub the “Orwellian” scheme.

I wish they would leave their phones outside the house, what other job allows you to sit their sprawled out looking through your phone, any one if them could be running another business. At the moment looking at pin is not against the law, there should be a massive crackdown on it, from the people that film it, the people in those films, probably drug related for who would do that unless coerced, it’s demeaning to everyone concerned. These people that watch it wouldn’t like to be watching their wives or daughter.
Mr Parish has been caught out, paid the price, lost his previous good name but I do wonder how many more there are that haven’t been caught

He’s sorry he’s been caught! Poor wife and family

Parish has said he was looking for tractors when he stumbled over the porn site which he looked at and then looked at again in the Commons. He's going to come in for a lot of ridicule over this.

What tractor name do you have to type into a search engine to arrive at porn? The best selling brands are: John Deere, New Holland, Massey Ferguson, Case-IH, Claas, Fendt, Valtra, Same Deutz Fahr and McCormick. Type any of those into a search engine and all bar one take you straight to the manufacturers site. McCormick goes to the cooking spice company first, tractors second.

Closest "mistake" I can think of is predictive text for Massey leading to massage. But if I do that on my phone, the massage companies listed are part of genuine spa treatments or physiotherapists who offer sports massage. If you have location tracking on, the search will default to local businesses so maybe if you do this in central London it'll find other kinds of massage services with links to porn.

I'm not trying to defend him any way. He's been incredibly foolish and disrespectful and had lost his job as a result. Just trying to see if his excuse for stumbling over the porn holds water.

It’s so trashy isn’t it. David Warburton, Jamie Wallis and now Neil Parrish.
