Putin - cancer surgery

Those speculating a while back as to whether Putin was ill were right by the sound of it.

The New York Times is reporting that he is going in for surgery and he is meanwhile transferring power to an ex FSB bod.

I thought you were all wrong! Just shows what I know?.

Whilst so many on here seem to think that the death of Putin would alter anything I do not understand.

Perhaps part of our media's reporting that puts it all down to one man. Putin's appointed deputy seems to be cut from the same political cloth, and could be even worse,

The actions of Putin's successor would depend very much on how much control he has of the machinery of repression.

I wonder how much attachment the Russian army has to the regime that has exposed them to humiliation in the 'Special Operation'?

AGAA4 Tue 03-May-22 11:02:20

The whole regime needs to go starting with Putin.

I dislike this man intensely. I would say hate, but I think it’s wrong to hate other human beings. I certainly hate what he’s responsible for and I hate the suffering he has caused. If he had caused the death of one of my beloveds I think I would happily say hate. I wonder if hating someone reflects poorly on me.
I have no hesitation in saying I hope he suffers during his illness. If he dies I don’t know what would happen. It could be just as bad, or worse, or it could be better.
I’ll happily and without conscience say I loathe him and everything to do with him.
When I visited St Petersburg I loved the city and it’s history was so interesting. I always wanted to visit Moscow too, but I never will now. My husband and I are agreed that whatever happens in the future we will not put money into the Russian economy by visiting Russia again.

Let us face it - our media reporting is probably nearly as biased as that in Russia.

So, we really have no idea at all how popular or not Putin and his cronies really are. A lot of our speculation is based entirely on what we would like it to be there - not on any realities.

If you were a Russian, reading and listening to the propoganda there, you would be convinced that that NATO countries are deliberately trying to control, by every possible means, those countries on the borders of Russia and preventing patriots in those countries from being able control their own futures.

Fair comment Franbern. But it is true that this situation has come about under Putin's leadership and won't end until that leadership ends.

Franbern Tue 03-May-22 09:56:24

I really would say - 'Just be careful about what you wish for'

volver Tue 03-May-22 09:28:30

If Putin was assassinated, it would indicate that there were enough powerful elements in his government who did not agree with this course of action. It would catalyse a situation where it became apparent that a lot of this was down to one man and his ability to lead or mislead others into this dangerous action. But that there were opponents in positions of power.

On the other hand, it could be positioned as coming from the West, and that Russians would have to fight back. But at least Putin would be out of the picture and the Russians would have a basis for real negotiations.

Think he was trying alternative treatment which usually doesn't work. Cancer can become more advanced and needs conventional treatment like surgery.

Gosh you’d have to be weird to bath in deer antler blood wouldn’t you?

Yes.

The antlers are sawn off while still developing, I think.
Cruel, but that's not surprising.

Come on Karma - do your stuff. The world doesn’t need such a despicable person.

volver Mon 02-May-22 20:19:54

I don't think we should torture him. I don't think we should kill him.

I just wish someone in his inner circle would arrange for a sniper, right now, to put a stop to this. If he has a nasty disease and it causes him pain, I won't be shedding any tears or feeling bad for him.

But his capture and then a trial at the Hague is the ideal. Then all that he's done is laid before him. And all those Russians who think he's the saviour of their nation and the liberator of Ukraine find out what's really going on. Then he's found guilty and incarcerated somewhere isolated for the rest of his life. Then generations to come know we're not savages, but that he is.

Lighten up Snowberry nobody’s perfect ????

snowberryZ Mon 02-May-22 19:50:57

I can kind of see where Granny'70s is coming from.
He's a despicable character and somebody needs to stop him. But to wish him to be tortured and to die a slow and painful death makes us no better than him, or no better than those 'people' in places like Saudi Arabia who enjoy watching public flogging, stonings, beheadings and other barbaric sub-human practices that apparently are still happening in this day and age.
I'd like to think we've evolved to become better people than that.

LauraNorderr Mon 02-May-22 19:13:45

The song says
? Hitler has only got one….
Let’s hope the same applies to Putin, surgery can slice the other off without anaesthetic and let’s see how good he looks on the world stage as the President with no balls at all.

Grandma70s This is not a normal person here. I would generally agree with your sentiments, but don't you think Putin is rather different from everyone else? I don't think the whole world will go blind if he suffered a fate worse than death.

I know he’s not a ‘normal person’, but I hope we are morally developed enough not to think that gives us the right to be more violent than necessary. We are, I hope, better than that. Perhaps I’m over-optimistic.

Chestnut Mon 02-May-22 18:45:13

I watched a great drama series about the WW2 trials at the Hague and the truly awful characters who were tried. However, they were generally executed which unfortunately doesn't happen any more, so Putin would survive and we really don't want that. So I'm not so keen on having a trial at the Hague.

What about the old traditional methods, hung, drawn and quartered.

Definitely trial at The Hague.

tickingbird Mon 02-May-22 17:59:08

I fear any replacement may be just as vile. All ex KGB and rotten to the core.

AGAA4 Mon 02-May-22 17:55:13

I don't want him to die. I want him to suffer. He deserves this.
