The Irish and Scottish dancing was fab-u-lous. Wales had Katherine Jenkins, thank heavens there were no Morris dancers though!
The Queen looked to be very happy.

There is nothing that really represents England is there?

I agree that it would be good to have some male Scottish dancers. All those muscular Legs! The Azerbaijan cavalry were brilliant as usual as were the ladies from Oman. And mustn't forget the Secret Drummers and the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery going at full tilt across the arena. Lovely to see the Queen chatting away about her own horses. I see Princess Anne's verdict was "Mama will love this"

Lovetopaint037 Mon 16-May-22 10:03:17

Those drummers were fantastic, in fact unbelievable. The Queen obviously loved them as well.

I caught the end of a news item on the Queen walking to her seat and they said that there was a small platforms lift (discreet) so that HM didn’t have to negotiated the steps.

Super evening's entertainment, really enjoyed it. Lovely to see the Queen having a good time too.

I recorded it and am so looking forward to watching it. smile.
It sounds lovely.

I'm so glad that the Queen really enjoyed this wonderful display. Loved everything about it especially the smile on H.M's face and her obvious delight. The Mounties, Bahrain Guard, Scottish regiment, all those horses, Lady Louise, Alan Titchmarsh, everything, all fantastic.

Would somebody please tell Omid Djalili that the Queen is Her Majesty and not a Royal Highness!

He has just tweeted that the Herald was traditionally the monarch's friend who could address her as such....I think he's just covering his back.

I loved the photo in todays papers of the Queen putting on some lipstick part way through! I thought she looked wonderful and so much healthier than in some photos earlier this week.

I didn’t recognise Tom Cruise at first. Next thought was ‘what is he got to do with anything?’ From what I read this morning his interview with Schofield was promoting a film.

Her Majesty was remarkable as ever and seemed to really enjoy (most of) the event. ????

I thought that in the main the show was fantastic. One or two rather amateurish moments. The horsemanship was brilliant as were the Secret Drummers. Did bring a lump to my throat seeing the Queen so obviously happy and enjoying the event.
I caught a side view of Prince Edward in the car and thought how much he resembled his father.

And he will be Duke of Edinburgh

I saw the interview and it was Philip Schofield who asked TC about the film, telling him he'd seen it recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. From what I've read online today Tom Cruise is wrongly being accused of using the interview to promote his film.

Not sure it was lipstick, word is that it was lipsalve for dry lips. But who knows for certain. Not sure about the Herald either. The only member of a medieval /Tudor court allowed to take liberties was the Court Jester, and even he had to be careful on occasion.

I’m not convinced by the ‘mobility problems’. I wonder if her problems are cognitive, as she has looked much more ‘ chirpy’ than usual, and I doubt she would ever have put lipstick or lip salve on in public.

mokryna Mon 16-May-22 17:37:07

Why Tom Cruise, he isn’t from the UK nor the Commonwealth?
He could of paid for an advert.

Pittcity Mon 16-May-22 18:49:23

I think she looked chirpy because she was rested and doing something she enjoyed rather than having to put on a face for work.
I have a friend who was there and sent a video of HM getting out of the car and walking behind a screen then appearing up at the level of her seat. It seems steps and distance are a problem.

The screen hid the platform lift, this was reported on the news this morning.

I thought she looked fabulous for her age, and as if she was thoroughly enjoying herself.

Kim19 Mon 16-May-22 21:14:18

I'm sorry the inclusion of the lift aid has been revealed.

M0nica Mon 16-May-22 21:48:09

Does it matter?

SparklyGrandma Tue 17-May-22 11:30:44

When he said thank you to HMQ for choosing the event over the opening of Parliament, HM grimaced slightly.

Dare one assume she may have been thinking. ‘I’ve had enough of that lot’ ?

Aepgirl Tue 17-May-22 11:31:46

Oh Norah, once in 70 years!

Yes, that set my teeth on edge too. You’d think that he must have rehearsed it and known the correct title. I felt embarrassed.

I think he redeemed himself with the Opening of Parliament joke. The Queen's response was priceless.

What did he say ?

He addressed the Queen as Your Royal Highness!
I’m afraid I also thought the Parliament joke was a bit of a dig at the Queen and not funny.

bit mean to publish the one of her reapplying lipstck
