Why Diana Ross?

Why is Diana Ross headlining the Platinum Jubilee Party and not a British singer as this is a very British event?

And I also thought it was odd to have Tom Cruise the other evening.

I saw Simon Cowell in Harrods once, he too was small but was being incredibly patient with people staring etc.

Sam Ryder! Sam Ryder will play too!

Surely we're all happy about that?

The other week I shared a train carriage with Fred from first dates and it wasn't even first class, it was the cheap seats. I have no idea if he can sing though, let alone in front of the Queen

I like Diana Ross

I bet they couldn't book Adele as she swears too much

I saw her in Harrods once. She's tiny. (Diana Ross, not the Queen. And I don't often go to Harrods.)

I think that may even be a rule. Any time I see a famous person I think "s/he's tiny"

The Queen is tiny.

I wondered about Julie Andrews and if she was still alive (she is).
But there are some great British women singers- Edie Reader, Cerys Mathews and Annie Lennox.

Think Julie Andrew’s had nodules or similar in her throat, and certainly cannot sing like she used to.

Shes coming over to the UK to play the legend slot at Glastonbury in June so she will be having a good summer ...I'm looking forward to seeing her

My choice would have been Tom Jones....My 85 year old mum would never know a Diana Ross song but could sing along to all of Tom Jones tunes...Love his personality as well..

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 18-May-22 19:09:35

You're right kitty, it was the Three Degrees that Charlie liked. My mistake.

I believe Ed Sheeran is on the list to perform also.

Calendargirl Wed 18-May-22 18:52:17

Diana Ross must be getting on a bit. Hope she can still sing, and not gone the same way as Elton, Paul M, Elaine Paige, et al, who can’t anymore.

Callistemon21 Wed 18-May-22 17:48:21

There must be a wide range of singers, entertainers, across the Commonwealth too.

BlueBelle

Diane Ross has a great voice perhaps Charles asked for her to sing or maybe the queen likes her Who cares can we only have ‘English’ people entertain up
What a ‘little’ country we have become and what a strange original post

We have excellent Irish, Scottish and Welsh singers as well as English.

Where's Bryn Terfel?

Bring back Jimmy Shand and his band I say!

kittylester Wed 18-May-22 17:36:21

Wasn't Shirley Bassey on TV a little while ago. Her voice had held up well.

Sparklefizz Wed 18-May-22 17:33:49

but then Freddy wasn’t English either so wouldn’t have suited the English only people

BlueBelle Don't be silly. Nobody has mentioned "English".

Annie Lennox would be great, yes.
